For Tao you have to keep in mind a few things to understand his actions (even if you dont like them). 1. He is an overprotective friend, and he witnessed Charlie getting heavily bullied. That leaves a mark and make him even more protective of Charlie. 2. He does not witness all the sweet scenes between Charlie and Nick that we see. For him, Nick is that rugby player who is part of the group of bullies and while he isnt a bully, he is still a silent watcher. 3. He has insecurities like everyone else that you'll see more in future episodes. Overall I think it's a much more interesting watch to see him as a nuanced character, not just an annoying one and to understand his perpespective of things.

It was renewed for not 1 more season but for 2 more in May of 2022. Filming might begin in the fall according to reports I have seen. Also Yasmin Finney has also been cast in the new Dr. Who series coming next year. It is based on the first 2 graphic novels by Alice Oseman. Alice wrote the script for the show and is also writing the 5th novel in the series. There are other novels that material can be drawn from too.

The problem with Tao is that he is OVER protective. Charlie had a reaaaaaally bad time last year, and Tao was the only there that saw how Charlie suffered. A part of his fear of changes... He also does not want anything to change.

a lot of people have covered this but Tao’s just doing all he can to protect Charlie and he doesn’t want to see Charlie get hurt because he genuinely believes the rugby boys are playing a prank on Charlie by making him think Nick likes him which makes sense given that Nick’s friend group actively bullies Charlie for being gay and Tao just for existing. I think he’s kind of trying to live his life (and unfortunately his friends) in that sort of “if you expect disappointment you’ll never be disappointed” bubble. He’s a really good friend just trying to save his friends because he has stood by and watched Elle experience transphobia and Charlie experience homophobia which is probably hard on Tao too.

Keep in my mind, the only thing Tao sees is what happens at school. He doesn't see the sweet stuff we and Charlie see. Also Tao watched Charlie get bullied terribly and get to a very low point and he doesn't want that to happen again. He's very protective of Charlie because he cares about him.

Tao is reacting the way that he is because in the graphic novel Tao accidentally Outed Charlie, causing Charlie to be severely bullied. So, now he's extra protective of Charlie.

Idk why people keep saying that is the reason when this is revealed in Volume 3 so not the reason for Tao being overprotective. And we dont know if this is going to be in the show or not (and if it is, then people keep spoiling it). Tao is overprotective because it's the way he is and he witnessed Charlie being heavily bullied

@@n0emiette while I still 100% disagree with your choice to defend Tao against any and all criticism, on this much we can wholeheartedly agree. The attempt to justify Tao's show behavior based on assumed guilt for Charlie's outing is chronologically wrong. Tao doesn't learn of Alled's theory until Paris, and it is never confirmed that Tao actaully did it. It was always just a hypothesis, never acknowledged as fact. Having recently read the graphic novels for the first time, I noticed several changes between the two mediums. Moving forward, it's probably going to be easier for the fandom to treat the novels and show as two seperate cannons.

It's important to note that in the novels Charlie doesn't know Tao was the one who outted him...I actually don't think Tao knew it either until it was pointed out to him on the Paris trip (using memory here I think that's how it happened).

I've lived this show gawd dammit. The guy literally looks like kit 🤣 everything that happens in this show literally happened to me. This is exactly how a straight guy awakens into bisexuality its kinda scary how accurate this show is. This guy would always choose me no matter what even when I had gf's who wanted me to set them up he still choose me. He had shit friends who would call me fag everyday and he defended me. His grandma told him how much happier he looks around me and told me how happy she is he found a friend like me ugh. This show makes me wanna try reach out to him again 😮‍💨 I messed it up, he over heard me telling a close friend and he got scared and just stopped talking to me. Its frustrating because he lights up when he sees me in person but refuses to talk to me on social media.. been like 3 years haha but I saw him a month ago. We had a moment together where he just froze up looking at me and I didn't know what to do because i thought he only wanted to be friends so I fucking fist bumped him and walked away 🤣🤣 why tf didn't I kiss him smh but we were also drunk. I can't stop thinking about how and why he froze up..

Tao is getting wrong info from Charlie who said he was “straight” based on a bad assumption, he continues to ditch his friends to chase a presumed “straight” boy. He doesn’t respond or go about things right, but remember he’s a kid. While he might be into more mature films, he himself isn’t. He also is genuinely worried about the friends Nick hangs out with are the type that bullied him last year. Think about what he knows and observes versus what we know and observe. He doesn’t know what we know. The first two volumes are season 1.

Tao accidentally outed Charlie last term. Charlie is afraid to tell Tao about Nick because Nick doesn't want to come until the end of first season. Tao feels extreme guilt over outing Charlie, so, he is overprotective because Nick's crowd were his bullies. I Love the way you look at things in this show. Will keep watching.
