Thank you for being so nice to the kids. I met Roger Staubach in 94' (who was my dad's hero) when I was 12 and I tried to get an autograph for my dad. He was the biggest asshole I've ever met and I told myself I'd never think of anyone worth asking again. It did make for nice casual conversations when I met Willie Nelson and Ken Griffey Jr. though.

40 us ago I cooked on the shore of Lake Superior for a summer. We made poor man's lobster with Lk Superior whitefish. Easy recipe. Bring buttered water with a bit of onion, peppercorns, and a bay leaf. 7 minutes in boiling water and its done. Time might need to be adjusted for smaller bodied fillers. These were at least nine inches long and several in deep and fairly thick.

Nah it's not because I want a good laugh, it's because I envy the relationship and hobby sharing that you and your dad have! Here in North we catch what we call crap fish. Sunfish, rockbass, any basic bait fish. Catch a bucket. Cut them up in small pieces. Bread them. Deep fry. Eat with dipping sauce.
@randydube14232 жыл бұрын
@21:40 where the filet flops out the spoon he should've gone with: It's still alive. And technically it's poached despite it being boiled. Doing a chicken breast this way has pretty good results as well since you can flavor/spice up your water and it infuses into the chicken whilst keeping it as moist as can be.

We scale some of our bream, filet them and leave the skin on so when they are boiled they stay together better. They are delicious in cocktail sauce also!!! Great job bud!

Just a little advice. After you pull them out of the boil you gotta put them under the broiler for just a bit. Just enough to brown one side like a broiled lobster tail and it will caramelize the sugar. It will give you the texture and consistency you're looking for! I recommend this for Catfish! Poor man lobster roll with butter made from catfish using this recipe is a killer!

Reminds me of what we use to call "poor man's shrimp", we were catching yellow perch in upstate NY, take Campbells tomato soup, about 1/2 can, this was more for color than anything else, put that in a pot of water, bring to boil, cut the filets to about the size of med shrimp, drop into the boiling water for 15-20 seconds, remove and eat, I would make some spicy cocktail sauce to dip in, texture was same as shrimp !!!

Without a doubt, the best way to keep fish fresh is to freeze it whole in clean water, it will taste as good as fresh caught and can be kept for several years without damage. Have tried vacuum packing and that works ok, but frozen in water is much better in my book.

I bet using glucose instead of sucrose would make it even more authentic (table sugar - sucrose - is just a glucose and fructose molecule stuck together), Animals have sugar in them primarily in the forms of glucose and glycogen, so glucose would probably taste the closest to an actual lobster's sweetness.
@westslopeoutdoors3 жыл бұрын
@@bdwilcox just sharing my experience, we’ve made poor mans lobsters for years. We’ve used sugar water, lemon sugar water, sprite, Mtn Dew, etc. 7-Up always seemed to work the best 🤷🏼♂️

Here is a good Reciepe for any fish. Use thin potato chips crunch very small in ziploc, Heavy frezzer bags work best. Melt Butter in a Bowl. Coat fish with Butter. Put in bag and coat fish with chips flakes and place in a baking pan. Use a glass or metal pan, can be cake pan or even a pizza pan. Bake for a while 25 to 30 min. Check inside if it's white it's ready to MUNCH. You can Tweek this any way you Wish as far as salt, pepper, Caujun, Red Pepper, it's all to preference. Hell sometimes i will have Italian, put some Italian seasoning in the mix. If you like Spicey Drop some Franks Red Hot on it. I Love Hot!!
