Halo's multiplayer maps are some of the most beautiful and detailed in the industry. Countless time and effort goes into the various maps that we play on and today I want to share the memories I have with Halo.
Welcome to LateNightGaming where we discuss modern games on a regular basis and go in depth behind your favorite (Or least favorite) titles!

This is a bit of a tangent latenightgaming but I feel like a good squad system would be like one in the (old) battlefront games where you could order the NPCs with simple commands to follow and hold positions. Wouldn’t be anything too intense and would really just be used for marine allies.

On the map Zanzibar in Halo 2 there is a terminal that you use to open the gate. After you press it there is a message that says “Press any key to power cycle the system. If system does not respond, scream at top of lungs and pound on keypad.” I’ve never seen anyone talk about this and figured I would mention it here.

I always liked the atmosphere of each map especially in halo 3. On Sandtrap I would fill the main room with tech and recovered weaponry and pretend I was the last person there, holding out for as long as I can until I can find a way out. I also did the same on forge world but as a stranded elite who made a camp in the cave that connected blood gultch with the tunnel island. I never had xbox gold at that time because I was young with a concerned mother so this sort of roleplay happened a lot but it was still fun anyways. But the atmosphere made it all work and enhanced the overall expeieriance and I appreciated all the small details as you have. I would sometimes just listen to the calming wind on all the maps as to just enjoy the calmness in the middle of the war that surrounds me.

I remember playing exploring the map "Guardian" from Halo 3 for the first time (which was on the MCC and not on an original copy of the game tragically lol). When I took my first step into it, I was just so blown away from everything around me: the trees, the atmosphere, and most importantly the Forerunner architecture. And for a while I just looked everywhere on the map and had the extreme desire to just explore everything, and the more I found, the more I began to have these burning questions: What was the purpose of this place? What happened to the Forerunners that were here? And many more. I just love how the maps across all the games really tell little stories of their own, and how they truly are some of the best the industry has to offer. And they really get you wondering what things took place in them! :)

I still remember when I first started using Forge World, I was blown away by how many different options there were to work with. I decided on making an Invasion map since that was my favorite gamemode. The idea was that the UNSC would be attacking a Covenant camp. The UNSC would start at the far side of the island and work their way to the Covenant defenses on the beach towards the Gultch. After taking down the Covie base there (including Shades), they can cross a bridge against the covies defending the hole that leads to Blood Gultch. Since the UNSC had taken down the shade turrets on the beach, a ship would appear overheard where the UNSC forces could spawn and then drop in ODST droppods. The UNSC had to both take a lowground position at the mouth, and a highground one one the ridges uptop. Finally, they'd push into the valley. There, the Covenant would deploy armour while the UNSC could now use airsupport. I got about 3/4 done with the map before I lost it due to my XBox account being high-jacked and suspended.

My favorite map in Halo is Guardian. There is something about the color scheme for that map, and how fun and balanced it is for Multiplayer that I love about it. It also helps that when I first got Xbox Live I played my first online match on that map durring the boot camp playlist on Halo 3. You know the one where it grabs 4 players, and gets you use to the FFA gameplay. Damn, think about this makes me want to go play some FFA Halo 3. I have countless memories playing Halo Custom Edition during my childhood, it had so many awesome maps made by the creative community. I'll never forget the first map I've downloaded, able to drive the Wraith of Halo 1 for the first time across Blood Gulch :D Almost each map had a unique environment, theme, art style, music, weapons, vehicles, easter eggs etc. Those maps included pretty much everything from the entire Halo universe and lore, but there were also maps based around completely different worlds. For example, a map based on star wars with x-wing and lightsabers, a map based on the legend of zelda with horses and bows, minecraft, cod, mortal kombat etc, not to mention other countless custom multiplayer and single player maps made by the most creative members of the halo community. I spent so many hours exploring and experiencing those incredible worlds, alone, and with friends.

I always loved exploring the city maps in halo 2. Bungie did a great job making them seem larger with the ambient noises and huge structures in the distance. Seeing all the little nooks and crannies was fun, and I liked coming up with stories for them. Imaging what life was like in them, and what these places were like before the war. And honesty that extends to all the city maps in halo, seeing how human architecture and culture has changed in 500 years is really cool to me

Playing split screen with my friends on Halo 2 Headlong! looking for the golden warthog! Some of my favorite memories were just exploring the maps and looking for glitches. Before I had Xbox live I would just mess around in Multiplayer by myself exploring and doing glitches with my friends Doing the rocket banshee flip and or custom spawned a wraith to boost with against a wall with overshields get outside the map! Stairway to heaven on Burial Mounds super bouncing on Lockout Glitching outside of Ivory Tower Messing with the train on Terminal and getting above the map - (sometimes you would hear kid’s screams when it passed through the map. That always scared me.) So many memories. It’s almost hard to talk about because It was a special moment in time with that game with friends cause I moved a year later and wasn’t able to get xbox live for long time cause there was not internet where we were. And then I started playing other games like call of duty and gears of war and but I always and still have a special place for Halo 2 That was my childhood! I even had a copy of the game before I had an Xbox. I had the books and magazines etc anything and everything was Halo when I was 14

We found a glitch on old blood gulch where if you drove a ghost up the mountains sideways, you could get on top of the map. Just if classic halos btb had spint it could been more awesome... Arena played pefectly without sprint,but btb in classic halos in matchmaking sucked just gonna say.......you respawn traveled 5 minutes from point a to b to kill someone, then a dude kill you in 1 sec ,yes,then you respawn and gotta walk for 5 minutes again.
@TheCommaA
@TheCommaA 5 жыл бұрын
@random halo player That's interesting because I absolutely cannot stand sprint in new halo games. Not enough time to think or plan, just run and shoot. I like'd being able to approach gameplay like a puzzle to be solved. Plus I miss feeling like an unstoppable tank, not a speedy ninja. Not saying you're wrong for liking sprint. I can see why it is enjoyed by others. It's just interesting how people's perspectives could be so different. Its kinda cool actually... and I was a fan of exploring Sandtrap as well! (Edit) Though, the map, Guardian, did have a unique mystery feel about it!
@randomhaloplayer918
@randomhaloplayer918 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheCommaA sprint could work on btb perfectly ,arena was perfect without it I sY on btb sprint could work because it has big maps and on classic halos like 2 and 3 if a dude had a sniper rifle and was camping ....for example valhala on the blue base he could kill everyone he wanted near the plain area in just 1 sec,and then you gotta walk for 7 minutes just to get killed again by the same dude that just got a killing frenzy because no one could get him with their AR or H3 br. Sprint could have fixed that ,but arena was good as it was actually I think that competitively halo 2 was the best,but if you just ganna play without risking your rank halo 4 was the best actually I thought halo 4 dominion was cool also extraction and flood were cool ideas,but some maps lacked creativity(except dlc maps that were easly the best dlc maps after halo reach ones,so bad they rarely were played on matchmaking),while classic halos didnt lack that much of creativity,they just need halo 2 A grafics to be perfect.

Condemned from Halo Reach was always one of my favorite maps to explore. The best part was always watching the burning planet below the station. You could really experience the final moments on the station just as the description says, "The final moments aboard Orbital Gamma Station, a human communications space station."

As a girl who grew up Catholic, and went to Catholic school (with all the required church days), I too appreciated epitaph for it's peaceful church-like atmosphere. I also loved Standoff (Halo 3) with it's huge satellites, Warlock (Halo 2) with it's crumbling beauty, Guardian (Halo 3) with it's almost Kashyyk-like vibes, Headlong (Halo 2) with its golden civilian warthog billboard. And of course Blood Gulch and Sidewinder for all the fun I had kicking my cousins' butts in pink armor during LAN. Didn't really play multiplayer past Halo: CE, since I didn't have Xbox lives, and the LAN parties stopped being a thing. But I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who likes to explore the maps by their lonesome, and get a feel for another part of the Halo world. Great video!

Construct from Halo 3, good map design with jump pad and the high up nature makes you feel like you’re in an action movie fighting on a high up building. And my gosh the view of the waterfall ring is GORGEOUS

This was really beautiful, I'm glad I'm not the only who played Halo that way as a kid. Some of my favorite maps were from the Halo 2 physical expansion pack, maybe its just because they were some of the last I really explored and examined that way, but I was enamored with all the little unique details that were put into those.

hey lng, thanks for answering my question! i’ve played the five main halo games for the first time in the last months so i’m a new fan, it’s nice to have your channel and many others to make understand a little more about this universe and also the community. i think you have a good point, the squad could make halo infinite lose the mystery but, as a new halo fan, i still think it would be nice. again, thanks for answering, hugs from brazil 🇧🇷

I just love Nuketown so much, its so dynamic, in online is a mess and a chaotic fun to have, in Custom games if you play SND with a few mates, it becomes this tension based pull and tug match that is so fun. its small but it means u need to be inventive on how you will go to each bomb site, so fun great map

Two years later and man the people who voice over Late Night Gaming videos with their nice soft tone voice with so much details being spewed out from their mouths feel like a old bed time story told by our parents maybe, it almost feels like an ASMR video. I can almost fall asleep to any of the Halo videos, all the details and memories I can relate and now appreciate to hold on to. With my respect and most interest that this channel will grow, keep making the videos you love to create, and do share your personal life stories, I love how from your childhood memories feel like a old story told from an elderly man telling his life story. Thank you for your great content.

The map standoff from Halo 3 always brought a tear to my eye as a child, I just couldn't get over how beautiful the sunset was, it also reminded me of the end of Halo 3 when Lord hood and the group of Marines are commemerating the master chief. I always thought about how the master chief will never come back, and will just be drifting in space forever. The first time my older brother told me that you couldn't leave to explore the massive satellite dishes in the distance I almost cried, like you said it had a sense that the facility was very recently abbandonded, and I only wanted to see it when it was fully staffed and in full working condition.

man. I remember I had a group of like 2-3 friends I would always play halo 3 and reach with. its super trippy to think about the fact that one day we said "goodnight, see you later" without knowing that was the last time we'd ever play halo together. I miss those late nights

Little Sandtrap memory from 2008, a buddy of mine who I still play Halo with these days, and I were on Sandtrap in Forge. He was driving around in a mongoose around the track when I had a little idea. What if I spawned in a rocket launcher and sent some fire his way? He's driving around wondering where I went when suddenly a rocket just misses turning him into paste. For the next two hours we took turns shooting rockets at each other in the mongoose. Drifting over sand dunes, practicing being unpredictable to avoid the rockets. I think this game is what turned me into a surgeon with a rocket launcher. When Eldewrito came to us for a short time we recreated that same experience but with 3 more friends. It's one of those sandbox moments that nothing has been able to recreate since. No game quite makes me laugh and yell and scream like Halo. It's my favorite game series without question.

the maps and that good old halo 1/2 music will forever have a special place in my heart. I wish I could replicate the magic/awe I felt when I first played some of the OG halo 2 maps or the time just wandering around sandtrap or standoff in forge and taking in the ambient sounds, truly a feeling I don't think any game will make me feel again

It’s common and almost natural for people to be jaded and critical online. It’s refreshing to see someone talk positively about something they’re passionate about. I’ve been a Halo fan since CE. Whenever a new Halo came out, I’d play through the entire campaign in 1 run with my older brother. At the time, it was just a REALLY fun video game but now I fondly remember Halo as a way that I always connected with my brother. For that I’m grateful

Coming back to this video and its so nostalgic! You articulated things I never could up to this point. Your point about how halo 3 looks incredibly real, more than real, in fact, well, that point in itself is very "real" as the kids say, lol, because it is so true, and so salient.

A map I think is underrated is Snowbound. While looking around you could see how the covenant was digging through ice and snow look for forerunner structures. The covenant bases were the first time we seen of their ground structures, which is round and smooth like the inside of their ships. While exploring you can see their were defending with the turrets on the outskirts that will kill you if you left the map. While snowbound isn’t liked as much as other maps I like how it felt like a BTB map that was shrunken down but yet didn’t feel cramped.

Best memories of Halo multiplayer was the goofing around, finding the golden warthog (or trying to...), using the sword glitch on ivory tower, super jumps on blood gulch, etc. Halo 4 and 5 MISSED THIS since no one plays custom games as much on there...

The most that the halo maps brought to me, especially in Halo CE, was the noises they gave. Bloodgulch had insects buzzing and birds chirping. Chiron TL-34 had the buzzing teleporters, and a very noticeable "cry" or shriek or however you want to fancy it from the walls. Hang 'Em High had the abyss like vibe, as if the installation was breathing, as if the ring itself was living and functioning by itself. I will never forget such noises, the audio-work by Bungie is astounding, a masterful work of art.

I always looked around of each video games own maps and look at the detail in and out of the maps. Game developers truly care for their games!

I explored the hell out of every halo map as a kid, I had no idea Xbox live was even a thing back then (thank god), so I just watched RvB and recreated some of the visuals from that show while playing Halo. It's kinda dumb to think about but Blood Gulch from Halo 1 will always be my favorite map, second favorite is Forge World, too many damn good memories of that game.

The first Halo I ever played was Halo 3. I was at my grandparents house and they had a Xbox 360 that my cousin had but got a PlayStation for some reason. I was looking through a box of games and saw Halo 3. I figured the box looked cool so I loaded it up. I went to the campaign and played for hours. It was amazing! The only other shooters I had played were call of duty so this was something else. I played Forge and messed around with all the maps, figuring out what hey are and what secrets I could find. Now I have MCC and every single Halo game ever! Halo is my go to game if I'm bored and I can't wait until Reach come to MCC so I can play with 4K 60fps graphics!

Halo's maps always have fascinated me when it comes to the art direction alone and I remember back then as a kid, those maps have been stuck to me. I wasn't allowed to play the Campaign of Halo 2 at the time, but I was allowed to play the Multiplayer and that's where my fascination with those maps became to be. My personal favorites being Relic (which looks beautiful in it's remastered form in MCC), Backwash, Ivory Tower, Containment, and Gemini.
