@@cowkane4945 I wish I did, but my experiences have been in-person. I've seen it mostly in traffic court (which isn't video recorded) because it's often more simplistic. Really depends on the judge. For complex (criminal and civil) proceedings that take up far more time, I haven't seen it as much. Usually those cases drag out and therefore wind up being closer to "trying to avoid mistrial." More often than not (in my experience), self-repping backfires even if you've been respectful.

I'm actually for more defendant control of courtrooms as I think it would reduce crime. This court case is a perfect example. Darrell Brooks shouldn't even be on trial. He's got other court cases pending that he should prepare for. In the legal world this is known as a document or criminal complaint dump. It's designed to keep the defense so busy that they just resign themselves or are severely unprepared. Brooks is actually not doing a bad job. He's discrediting witnesses as well as evidence. Remember, all he needs to do is put doubt in the mind of one juror and I think he has.

I agree for sure. MOST people say she is doing the right thing and that he is acting the way he is to make her do something so he can get a mistrial. He is not smart enough for that and cannot think that through. It is just at the way he is. A mistrial will not do him any good anyway, it will just prolong his going to prison instead of getting let out of the jail cell everyday. It doesn't matter if you are in the cell all day or getting let out to go to court. You have no freedom either way.
