It’s so interesting that I grew up in a Chinese speaking household but I never understood your last two phrases! I don’t think I actually heard my parents say “no problem” or maybe I just didn’t understand them. There are so many words and phrases I don’t understand and I’m so glad to be learning them now with your help. I think I must have shut off my brain to Cantonese when I was younger.

I'd love to see you do one of those 'surprise' videos where you pretend to know only English talking to a local and then start speaking fluent Cantonese and amaze them! There are a lot of these for Mandarin and some for Korean but none for Cantonese. I appreciate that might not be your thing though!

Thank you so much for the feedback and for such a nice compliment. I really enjoy doing the videos, so it helps me to know what people like about them. Here's to hoping work won't be as busy and I'll be able to do more soon! :)

I was born in the States, but my family is from HK. I thought that I was fluent, but never knew that the year is said first until I watched your vid!

That's so cool that I could help you learn something you didn't know before. Thanks for commenting and so sorry for my horribly late reply! :)

thanks for making these videos, I'm english and can speak Chinese, wanna learn some cantonese but is kind of hard connecting which sounds to which 繁体字, would be very useful if you could put the characters on the screen when you're talking about them instead of having to rely on pinyin. thanks again

I just wanted to clarify that "dak" means "can". So if used in a response, it would mean "I can" or "that works" even though ultimately, it does mean okay.

Thanks so much! I love doing the videos ... it's so much fun. And yes, as I've done more videos, I've become more aware of the audio problems .... some of these older ones I haven't adjusted the volume and so yes, they're not as loud as they should be ... it's a work in progress :-)

I have a question, why if the preposition to make things negative is “mh” when you say “no problem” is “mouh” instead of “mh”?
@CantoneseCorner
@CantoneseCorner 5 жыл бұрын
Samuel Maya Montes good question! I suppose it is like in English ... we would say “I don’t “have” a problem”, hence the use of “móuh” for “don’t have”. That’s my theory anyway!

Sadly, no ... I can understand and speak a little ... a very little ... but I just never needed to, so I never learned it. Maybe one day if the need arises ... :)

@@CantoneseCorner it's entirely a wild guess haha. Actually I am a native speaker of Chinese including mandarin and Cantonese, and i know nothing about English accents of different countries or places..
