Haven't trotted for years. Got an urge to do it again this year. Used to do it on the upper Severn,, but got a few smaller rivers like the Peover Eye and Churnet to get back into it 👍

Hi Stephen, You should definitely do it! It's such a nice way to fish, if you head back to the upper Severn there's a good chance of some nice roach and chub 💪

Hi great vid, couple of qs How do you choose what depth to fish? Is it exactly the same as using a waggler on stillwater where you'd use a plummet to find the bottom and position the float accordingly? Is it most productive to fish on/close to the bottom on rivers as it tends to be on still waters? I'm new to river fishing, and my main local stretch is very deep and rough - so I have only ledgered on it. Would I be better off trying out the stick on a shallower, calmer stretch? Thanks!

great video but can I suggest anglers trying it out use a floating line rather than a sinking line it makes it far easier when mending the line for better control

Great video. Can I just ask, at the beginning of the session would you still plumb the depth like you would on a Stillwater ?

Glad you enjoyed the video Mark. The best way to set the depth when stick float fishing a river is trot the float down the river a few times, keep adjusting the depth until you drag the bottom, then shallow up so that you bait is just above the bottom.

Cracking video, have you got any recommendations for spots on the Wensum?
@AnglingDirectTV Жыл бұрын
Hi Owen, this video was filmed on the river Wensum at Lenwade. Fishing is available on a day ticket. It's a great stretch and the roach population is good with a few bigger fish too. Obviously closed now until June 16th.

Few things I find you didn't mention was how to cast in a river's flowing water as opposed to a commercial, where to introduce the float into the swim, and any difference to the line/rig if you've trying to NOT fish the bottom. It's these bits I can't find easily.

I definitely wouldn’t be using a sinking line for trotting as there is to much resistance on the strike which will lead to missed bites especially when the bigger roach are in the swim

Great video, but some information on depth, holding back etc would be useful.
