The 60s is not the modern era. The modern era was when the NBA and ABA merger took place in 1976. And even then, some people don’t consider it the modern era until the 80s. @@skillethead15 technically the “modern era” was between 1500-1800. But really the modern era is considered by many to be from 1946-present. So this would include the 60’s. HERE IT IS: Jordan vs James: Updated after LeBron’s 14th season. Michael Jordan has: •3 more rings •3 more final mvps •1 more DPOY •1 more season MVP •9 more scoring titles •3 more steals leader •3 more all defensive team selections •4000 more points / bron moved past him in playoff points, but it took him longer. •800 more steals •Beat 20 50+ win teams in the playoffs (Lebron only defeated 10) •Jordan never averaged less than 40% Field Goal in the finals Lebron did it twice •6/6 (never allowed a game 7) •Lebron had much more offensive help, example: Jordan never had a teammate average more than 22 points in the finals.. In fact, Mj is Only player in NBA history to lead a team to the championship with only one teammate averaging double figures in scoring * In the Bulls’ 1997 playoff run, Scottie Pippen averaged 19 points per game on 42% shooting. All other teammates of Jordan averaged under 8 points per game Kyrie averaged over 28 and DWade averaged more than 26 •MJ never ever had a finals meltdown like Lebron in 2011 against the Mavs •MJ had more points in the playoffs in less games. MJ accomplished all of this in 13 seasons Lebron after his 14th season, is still chasing the “ghost” (GOAT) that played in Chicago” •Michael Jordan in the playoffs has put up atleast 40ppg, 5rpg, 5apg in 6 different playoff series. Along with an average of about 55% shooting, 3spg and 2bpg. (86 vs bos, 89 vs cavs, 90 vs philly, 92 vs Miami, 93 vs Phoenix, 88 vs cavs) Jordan won every one of those matchups except for the 1986 matchup vs the celtics. •Jordan in 88-89 averaged 32ppg, 8apg, 8rpg, 3spg off 54% shooting. LeBron has never even came close to this stat line. •in 87 thru 92, MJ averaged 5 straight seasons of atleast 51% FG shooting. LeBron has never done this. •the lowest FT% MJ ever shot in a season was 78%. Lebrons highest in a season ever is 78%. •MJ has a higher playoff FG% of 48.7% to Lebrons 48.3% •MJ has a higher playoff player efficiency rating of 28.6 to Lebrons 27.3. •MJ shoots a higher playoff 3 point percentage of 33.2% to Lebrons 32.9% •LeBron James has scored 30 points, 416 times in 1,117 games. Michael Jordan did it 562 times in 1,072 games. Jordan won 6 championships without losing a final in 1,072 games and LeBron in 1,117 games has lost 5 times and has only won 3 times (updated 2018) •MJ also shocked the league by being the first (and only) player to have 100 blocks and 200 steals in the same season, then turned around and did it again the next year. •Mj also has more career blocks (893) than Lebron James (853) despite playing in 22 LESS career games and being the smaller guy. Also, MJ averaged 1.6 blocks per game in the 1987-88 season which is absolutely bonkers for a 6’6″ shooting guard. Seriously this list can keep going. This isn’t even a debate. Mj is the GOAT. MIchael Jordan: •NBA record 5 playoffs series’ averaging atleast 40ppg •Only player in history to lead league in scoring and win DPOY •Highest scoring average, points per game, in any championship series: 41.0 vs. Phoenix Suns, 1993 NBA Finals •Only rookie in NBA history to lead his team in four statistics (1984-85) •Only player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring, win Most Valuable Player, and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season (1987-88) •Only player in history to average at least 30pts 6reb 5assists And 2 steals per game AND HE DID IT 7 TIMES. •Only player in NBA history to win Rookie of the Year (1984-85), Defensive Player of the Year (1987-88), NBA MVP (1987-88, 1990-91, 1991-92, 1995-96, 1997-98), All-Star MVP (1988, 1996, 1998), and Finals MVP (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998) •Only player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring and win the NBA championship MORE THAN ONCE in the same season * He did this SIX TIMES!! (1990-91, 1991-92, 1992-93, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98) •One of two players in NBA history to score 3,000 points in a season: 3,041 points scored in 82 games played (37.1 ppg) (1986-87) * Wilt Chamberlain is the only other player to achieve this. •MJ is also the only player in NBA history to score over 40 points at age 40, and he did it twice! •In 1988, MJ earned: Dunk Champ, All Star Game MVP, NBA Scoring Title, League MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. Michael in only ELEVEN complete seasons with the Bulls: -10 scoring titles, -Won Defensive Player of the Year, -9 times all defensive team, -9time All NBA, -5 league MVPs -6 finals MVPs All 11 seasons. LeBron has feats of great accomplishment but not the same as MJ, but LeBron is without a doubt the most talented player of all time and the perfect mold of a basketball player to ever step foot on court for Lebron making teams champions. it's artificial because he makes those teams himself crafted the way he needs them to be to make his own game work. not a bad thing, but it's not like LeBron was on a championship team then traded to another team and they win a championship, then traded again to another team and win a championship LeBron being able to craft his own teams is something other players didn't have the luxury of. LeBron specifically crafted his teams to have a big man who can stretch the floor to make it easier for LeBron to get to the basket. he did that specifically because he knew he wasn't a great shooter and his best way of scoring is barreling his way to the basket. smart, but no one else had the luxury of being able to craft their own team like that. With respect to LeBron HERE IT IS: Jordan vs James: Updated after LeBron’s 14th season. Mj has done in 11 seasons things Lebron hasn’t done and won’t do in his whole career… Remind me again...who is the GOAT?

@Dats a paddlin Not taking anything away from MJ and Pippen, but you 100% correct. They can and would be elite in any era. They were arguably the best on ball defenders in NBA history. With that said they played in a big man era and they were only a handful of elite perimeter players thru the mud 80s-mid 90s. Most games they were locking down perimeter players that wouldn't even be in the league in today's game and there wasn't any hand checking rules lol. Combine the hand check and the lack of talent on the perimeter. Along with how much more athletic and talented MJ, Pippen, and Ron harper were. That equates to arguably the best defense in league history. Again MJ and Pippen, Harper could play great in any era but their defense would be more like what Kawhi can do defensively. Where they could be considered 1st team all defense. But with the rules and athleticism of today's game, their defense would be scored on frequently

The Heat had the chance to be that. They underachieved. They underachieved specifically because of Lebron. The so called GOAT should've carried the Heat to a 3peat at the very least especially with his supporting cast. He promised more than 6 rings. The reason why none of Lebron's teams could be considered All Time Great teams is because of Lebron himself not living up to the potential. The argument for Lebron as the GOAT lies strictly in his cumulative stats over the course of his career and in trying to poke holes in Jordan's career. That's not a good look. Devaluing a more accomplished player's resume just to prop up the next "Chosen One" is not a good look at all.

@Dats a paddlin Facts. These producers are finally starting to read the comments from people like you and myself that've been making this argument for years. Look at those Knicks and Jazz teams with filled garbage. Bryon Russell in the famous final shot couldn't make an NBA roster today, along with half the players in the League in the 80s and 90s. In 93-94 the Bulls won 55 games and made the ECF without Jordan because #1 the Bulls were stacked (Ho Grant is a HOFer, 120 wins shares vs Rodman 90) and the NBA was not as competitive. LeBron leaves a team and they're straight to the lottery because LeBron is that great and the League is much much more competitive/talented. We just gotta keep explaining it to people. Once LeBron hits 38,000 10,000 10,000 and 5 or 6 rings, they'll start getting it.

Chris Alexandre Shaq and Ewing are the exceptions. Olajuwon and Robinson are the exceptions. But even their HOF talents would be marginalized in this Analytics, 3-pointer Era. And yes Jokic can shoot as well as post-up so yeah he’d give those HOFers fits cuz they’d have to step out on the perimeter, something they never did. Look what Christian Laettner did to Shaq in college. Shaq had to chase Laettner around the court and got completely dominated. That’s what guarding the perimeter does to Big’s. Also I love how nobody can ever counter the 55 games + ECF without MJ😂They just gloss over it by naming the 4 HOF Centers out of 100 that played during that time.

No, I don't agree. He's had teams that should have been all time great teams. The argument that every uses for Lebron being goat is that he beat the Golden State Warriors and he beat San Antonio Spurs with all those hall of famers. But Lebron had 3 Hall of Famers with Miami and when Bosh gets in that will be 4. He went 2-2 with the Miami Heat. He had 3 players that I think will get into the Hall of Fame when he played with Cleveland the 2nd time. He went 1-4 with them. Now grant it that Kyrie left for Boston in 2017. But they wouldn't have beat the Golden State Warriors team that year anyways. My point is that everyone gives him credit for just going to the championship game. With the teams he's played on since 2010, he had no choice but to go to the championship and in a weak conference. I think this is his most impressive job he's done taking a team that doesn't have a bunch of hall of famers. He even played great defense this year. He had all but abandon the defensive end. I think getting Anthony Davis motivated one another to challenge the other to step up when needed.

His teams grabbed 2 chips that they weren't even supposed to win. Ray Allen and Wade were past their prime. Being past ur prime on the Heat is different than being past ur prime on the Spurs. The Spurs invented load management while the Heat have always played hard. U can't just look at the rosters and say "this team should've been alltime great" You have to consider, the opponents, injuries, coaching, etc. Those 3 peats that Brussard talked about were all coached by the same man.

That is the reason he's left these teams. Michael Jordan made his teams great once he started getting good players around him. Just as Lebron James and Anthony Davis did this year. I think they challenged one another and it made both of them great. I will agree with context is everything because when they say things against Michael Jordan, they put things into context and don't always tell the whole. Individually, you’re better if you shoot more, assist more, rebound more, won mvp more, more defensive, more scoring titiles, more nba 1s team, etc. If you win chip, you’re a better team. These sports analysts are a joke giving more weight to chips rather than individual milestones in choosing a goat. After filling all the criteria and your edge is the chip then you’re the GOAT. LeBron has to win at least one though, which he is capable of doing. But stats and championships aside, just looking at both players overall skill sets... Michael Jordan is simply better. I am not saying LeBron does not score in some a few categories, but Jordan wins in most.

Michael Jordan is the true GOAT, fellas. He gave six championships to a franchise that had never won anything. MJ never self proclaimed to be the greatest of the great. He always paid his respects to the guys that came before him. He was and still is a much more recognizable and bankable individual around the world. His massive fortune speaks billions to that effect. MJ has earned our respect with all of his accolades, without verbally demanding for it. If that's not GOAT behavior, I don't know what is!

A longevity argument, and with no defense, no real skills, no Lebron James has failed period in the first finals. He's a failure, and never should have been in discussions with Michael Jordan anymore. Someone else's has to walk that walk. He will never walk the real path that Michael Jordan, has scoring titles 10 of them, 3 steal titles, over 100 blocks and over 200 steals, in back to back years. Lebron is given elite help to win chips. When he was in Cleveland for 9 years nothing. After teaming up with everyone else's chips. Same argument but one guy got allot of help from the league. The other just wanted to win at all costs with less talent than Lebron James had to do it. Michael Jordan did it himself and made his guys winners and Michael Jordan played defense and offense end of story.

am I the only one who sees that they only compare totals, not the averages ? Clear to me that these dudes are pretty bad at math. And I hate these discussions because they force you to nitpick great players but let´s be real, saying that LeBron was better than MJ during the regular season is a joke. If LeBron was better during the regular season, how come he has never won Defensive Player of the year ? MJ did. How come LeBron has 5 all NBA first Team selections compared to the 9 MJ has. And Lebron played way more seasons so more opportunities to accomplish this but he rest on D. Still MJ has 10 scoring titles (7 of them consecutive and we know it would have been more because after he unretired he won the other 3) and LeBron (who rests on D a lot) has only one scoring title. So you have one guy who played longer but has only one scoring title, no Defensive Player Title and only 5 First team Defensive Selections but you call him better, than the guy who has in FEWER seasons won 10 scoring titles, 9 All defensive first team selections, a defensive player of the year title (BTW the only player in history to win scoring title, MVP, Defensive player in one season) and your conclusion is: LeBron is better ? Better in what ? By arguing totals, Karl Malone is better than MJ simply due to more years and so is Jabbar. You can only argue totals if the players you want to compare played the same amount of games PERIOD ! And I guess I don´t have to start on why Players that played these past 10 years have way higher scoring, rebounding and assist...the average NBA team ATTEMPTS over 20 (!!!) more 3pointers per game now than during Jordan´s time. During MJ´s last championship season, the average NBA team attempted (not made) 12.7 3pointers, in this season 2020 the average NBA team attempts 34 3pointers ! It´s simple math...more shots= more rebounds=more assists. also a result of no hand checking from free throw line to frew throw line. People in the 90s were good shooters, too. but you were allowed to control them with your hand on the hip, hence fewer threes back then. Steve Kerr still has the highes average in history and there are several 90s players in the top 10, so no people don´t shoot better, they are allowed to shoot more with less defense. But again...you don´t need to put numbers in perspective (you should) but it is NOT EVEN NEEDED to make a case for MJ as GOAT. I think Kareem has a better case than LeBron, he has more titles and won in HS and college. Also Kobe has a better case, as he won 5 titles and more scoring titles and defensive team selections. the game is played on both ends. Jordan as a guard (!) averaged 0.9 blocks per game compared to LeBron´s 0.8 who is a forward and 3 inches taller. Jordan also averaged 2.5 steals per game to LeBron´1.6 per game. How is LeBron better ? Basketball is played on BOTH ends and on D LeBron is just average while MJ was the best defensive SG his entire career. Fun Fact: MJ at age 40 (!!!) as a Wizard with bad knees, averaged more Steals per game than LeBron over his past 5 years. That is how much MJ hustled on D. Matter of fact, a 40 year old MJ on the Wizards also averaged the SAME number of blocks per game as LeBron did this season.
