Im 3 years behind.... that’s awesome! I want to try making my own lead some day when I feel I’m educated enough on it. I currently reload with manufactured lead. I can’t imagine the feeling of casting and loading your own shells. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the posting your results! I've been looking to get started casting lead for my 30-30. I got a peep sight from Skinner Sights on my old marlin 336. Definite improvement over the factory open sights that come with it. From a bench I can hold a 1.5" group at 100 on a good day with the Skinner set up.

Good stuff man. May I make a suggestion to improve your accuracy a touch? Ok, thanks lol. Take a file to that front sight post and get rid of that big front bead. Just make about 6 aggressive passes on each side to narrow that thing to a thinner post and you will be amazed. One can actually see his intended target lol. Hope this helps. It certainly did for me. I had about the same group size as you but after thinning the site down I was able to get them in at < 4". I'm 72 so that should tell you something about my eyesight lol. Good luck.

Heck, given the fact that the rifle is so cheap I think I'm going to try this, if it does not work out I can buy some aftermarket sights :) thanks for shearing your experience!

Nice shoot'n Lion! I have a CT 1976 336. I tried to press those and was not thrilled with the OAL and the crimp seemed off or into the driving band. I got the Lyman version of that mold and the gas checks OAL and crimp lined up to spec.

Another thing I'd like to tell you about is in and when I was in another country I saw they were using 30 30 rounds in a PTR or should I say it it k91 type assault rifle and they were using military style rounds the bullet was noseed just like a military round and the soldier actually showed me the headstamp cuz I didn't believe it and guess where they make it right here in the US and they ship it to Colombia South America..... I think having a boat tail hollow point round in a military configuration is the way to happen you're going to get the same kind of those like you do with the 762 by 39 what's my second favorite round outside of the 4570 very versatile

Definitely trim the cases a tad more and try shooting at 50 or 75 yards so you can see the bullseye. It will make for better groups and better data for your records. If the occasion arises where you'll need to shoot at 100 or more you will have more confidence in your aim.

Have you tried .310 and gc yet......also google frugal outdoorsman jr1942 .....look at the lee soupcan Moulds 115grn and Lee 314 95 grn tl swc with red dot bullseye and 700x..... Also stock up on lots of primers cause you go through a lot of them with these lite loads lol..... I do a lot of 30/30 cast loads. I have found in all of my 30/30s Winchester and marlin they like the fatter boolits. I personally have not gotten great accuracy yet with pc.... with fatter boolits gc and tl I push as fast or faster with them than jacketed.... I also don’t get leading.... I also have most of my 170-180 grn cast seated just like you do where they take a bit of a squeeze to chamber.

Why did you decide not to gas check, have you noticed any extra leading in your barrel do to that, do you double or triple powder coat your rounds?
@LionSilverVideos7 жыл бұрын
Good question, mainly just to keep the coast down and eliminate a step because these rounds are just for target shooting. These rounds have two coats of powder on them. I have a little over 100 rounds through the rifle so far and have not noticed any leading, but keep in mind this is a relatively slow load.
@rondetten92527 жыл бұрын
Have you tried single coating or did you start with double?
@LionSilverVideos7 жыл бұрын
I may have, some times the first coat sticks well, other times it takes two.
@reloader7sixtwo7 жыл бұрын
With two coat of powder it's going to be hard to get a gas check on anyways,sometimes one coat can be a pain. Gator gas checks are pretty cheap these days just a little over 2 cents each,they will give the bullet extra grip on the rifling and will improve accuracy once you cross into a certain velocity range. I size all my 30-30 bullets both the Lee 170 an 150 gr. to .311" but I don't have the issues with OAL in my old Savage 30-30 as some of the Marlin rifles do.

@@LionSilverVideos warm your boolits up to 125f for 5 minutes before tumbling in powder coat, one even coat every time with HF red. Try it..

I just get a red dot off on it put a picatinny rail on it right over that spot over the flat top that way you can get some good shots what I would do on a SKS you getting the same ballistic results in some ways but you put a hollow point on a 30-30 you're going to see a whole different ball game results but you got to use a pumpkin or a frozen turkey you see what it does you'll see what I'm talking about it when you shoot it it'll be a video worthy believe me...
