Lee never got to the point where he couldn’t ‘squeeze one out’.
@lizardspiral
@lizardspiral 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. But if you look at his vintage videos. Once he started slowing down and reaching that point, he rest paused for 2-3 seconds that pushed out his failure out 1-3 reps.. then he did another 2 reps. So Technically it was theoretical failure because , had he wouldn't do a rest-pause at end, he would for sure fail on the next rep.

From the mid 80’s( when I first joined a gym) to at least the mid 90’s , training “to failure” and “forced reps” (spotter assistance beyond failure) were common sights in the gym ... and most people lifted “heavy”

At last! Common sense advice on training to failure. When I was a competitive powerlifter I always trained to failure. How in the world can you become stronger if you always leave something in the tank? We need to give our "muscle mind" a reason to stimulate gains. Except in the case of ridiculously easy gainers . . and I've known some . . our bodies will resist the need to change. So we have to convince them otherwise. I have something definite to say about what has become known as "the finisher" Lee talks about pushing the car or whatever, but please guys, don't do that, or sled pulling/pushing, or running a flat out 800 meters, or anything that will totally deplete you. Do your workout and be satisfied with that. You should leave the gym feeling great! . . Not totally spent and having to barf in the gutter. If your training makes you barf, you ARE training too hard, too many sets most likely. As Lee says here, quoting Lee Haney: Stimulate, don't annihilate.
@anthonybutt5988

"Stimulate, not decimate" = longevity and minimal injury. Whilst I respect Ronnie Coleman for all his achievements, compare him to Frank Zane now, and tell me which body you'd prefer to have in your older age...

Every work out you adjust your reps and weight and evaluate your capabilities, it's part of the process. But you use common sense as in, if it hurt you stop and evaluate yourself. And always safely go for more and as Lee said if you believe you reached your rep goal easily up the weight.

at 61 and a totally natural bb you need to hold back on time, intensity, frequency etc...and really step it up on the science of bb...or you will not be happy with results...a 61 natural body is not even close to the durability you had at 25-30...But yes if you listen to your body and do research you can still look strong and feel great...

@olaf5929
@olaf5929 3 жыл бұрын
Umm no. Based on various studies you can simply work out without being a total masochist about it and still grow. There's a reason you have gyms full of injured amateur bodybuilders and rampant drug abuse by teens trying to look like people who literally dedicated their lives to lifting and looking good.
@wootuser

Diet and consistent workouts is the key and steroids' will come later if you want to compete professionally unless you do all natural. Seen so many people have great workouts only to squander it with excess carbs or excess sugar and completely fail with the amount of protein and calories drink little water etc..

@carpediem6568
@carpediem6568 4 жыл бұрын
No, that's not true. Results come from working smart. No one worked harder than I did, and I got a great big nothing for all that work, year after year. I only started getting gains when I backed off and worked half as hard. Three days a week instead of six and lighter weights. I used to fall for that "hard work" nonsense. Doesn't work that way. Even bodybuilding requires more brains than brawn.
