Of course I don't have much experience in drifting, but the transmission of this car also plays a role here. I have a mechanic, it is more rear-wheel drive. That is why I twist the steering wheel and steer in the direction of the skid, not in the direction of travel.
@JTmoto Жыл бұрын
Yes the 5-eat in this car is 45/55 rear biased. You should always twist to the direction of travel though, to straighten the car.
@Prototype-S Жыл бұрын
@@JTmoto The working principle is the same as in the 4-eat. All-wheel drive is not permanent, although it has the advantage of rear, but it is switchable. In contrast to the mechanics, there is always all-wheel drive and always predominantly rear-wheel drive. Therefore you at drift and you have a steering wheel in the direction of movement, and not as at the rear-wheel drive, have to twist at once in the other side.

that is some mighty quick driving for public roads on snow...you're either brave or foolish...lol. Not a cheap mod but if the car is a long term keeper might be worth the trouble.
@JTmoto Жыл бұрын
It's hardly past the limit, you really need decent tires and a set of hands. The car should've been a keeper, but I traded it in a few years ago. I probably wouldn't have done the swap, because it would've cost a fortune. The 45/55 rear biased split with VTD was pretty nice on its own. Thanks, the car felt great. That's gonna be a hard choice, but i'd pick the outback every time. Hey, so are paddle shifters always on or you have to enable them with some kind of a "manual mode" setting?
@JTmoto4 жыл бұрын
Slam the lever on tiptronic and you'll have both paddle and stick or then you can just casually flap them to override the auto for a moment on D Mode.
@PerfectRumble4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! What about this scenario then - let's say I'm cruising in D and want to downshift for some engine braking (no brakes, just one gear down). So I pull the paddle, still in D, and it goes down one gear. When should I expect for it to automatically go one gear up again, as it initially was? (i.e. after a couple seconds, or maybe it's smarter than that)
@JTmoto4 жыл бұрын
@@PerfectRumble i'd say in ~5 seconds if you dont do additional stuff. Its all programmable though, if i recall correctly. Also rev matches for you and so on, for an auto i really liked it 😂
@PerfectRumble4 жыл бұрын
Interesting stuff. I've seen a couple SG Foresters on the internet that were upgraded with paddle shifters (I think the paddles were taken from a JDM SH version, but I might be wrong). But the guys who did the mod wrote that the paddles are only working when the gear lever is in "sport shift" mode, i.e. manual shifting mode, and they don't work in D mode. So with this context, Legacy paddle shifters are more advanced and more practical than Forester ones. Anyway, considering the time, effort and money involved, 6MT swap from a STI SG Forester probably makes more sense and brings more fun :D
