For the dungeons if they are going this route I think the best way would be starting off with no mods to the dungeon. Then at the end add something animated and fun, like a slot machine you pull and get 3 random modifiers. The you group gets to decide on what one. That modifier stays for the week, and slowly increases as you gain dungeon levels, with each new level you add another random modifier. The 3 random modifiers can be broken up into easy medium and hard. If you take the easy route you might have to get to say level 10 before the loot really starts ramping up while. Harder difficulties might mean the items start ramping up at stage 5 instead. This however would cause people to be asshats for obvious reasons. They can then add a final layer of modifiers... That modifier is a personal one that does require anything from the group. Example a healer could get a slower group who want to take the easy route but he wants more rewards from doing the dungeons at a faster pace like in the example above, he can choose to add a personal modifier to make it harder on himself say minus healing. You can remove it at any time but it means you forfeit any extra loot. This would mean while his group still needs to grind out a few extra runs to get too the better loot and prizes he would be able to still team up with them but start having a chance for good loot earlier. Now as a group you can choose easier or harder modifiers and join in any group not feeling your wasting time because if you happen to get a slower group who are still learning the ropes you can simply slap a few personal modifiers on yourself to make your personal experience harder.

On the legendaries: I think it will work like this, you take a quest in your class order hall, you now have to complete 5 objectives in one of the zones, when you have completed 5 different objectives, you are rewarded a strong box with rewards in it, this box has a small chance of dropping one of the legendaries, depending on which faction you quested for at the time. And these objectives could be profession related, pvp related, etc as shown on the azsuna map. In the bottomleft of that picture you see objectives to reach a chest.

I've never liked scaling levels. It takes away the "oh, look, I put in work and am stronger now." I remember flying from Stormwind to Ironforge at a low level and seeing these ?? spiders in Searing Gorge. I remember as I continued to level and they continued to be ??, I was more and more scared. But then it got to the point where they had a red number, and I realized these aren't boss-level mobs, these are just level 48 mobs. And then they had an orange number, and I realized I could probably take them on...one at a time...slowly. Then they had a yellow number and I decided to go there, and they weren't scary at all. Then their level turned green, and then gray...and I realized they were nothing. This was the gauge by which I saw how powerful my character was. It didn't involve a lot of math or addons to figure out what my DPS or effective health was. It was simply that those scary, scary things were now nothing to me. The problem when you add in level scaling and several tiers of difficulty is that it makes you remember this is a game. Level scaling means you don't have a sense of how powerful you are relative to the world, if the world always stays at relatively your power level. Tiered difficulty means that boss that was really easy? Oh, turns out he's not. It reminds you that you're not an adventurer experiencing the world, but rather a player playing a game.

+Daniel Skrivan I get what you're saying, but doesn't it require a lot of imagination to immerse yourself so entirely in front of a screen anyway? I've never seen wow as more than a game, but maybe I'm missing something? Except in PVP when it becomes a lifestyle and no longer a game lol.
@danielskrivan69218 жыл бұрын
kiopl2003 It does require imagination, but how much? A good game will suck you in and you will not have to try to imagine yourself involved. The way WoW used to work, it used to feel like one big world. You had to travel to dungeons, so they felt connected to the world. Your character interacted with the world and the people in it. I cannot tell you where a single WoD instance is located in the world, or most of them in MoP. I have a pretty good idea in Cata, and I know exactly where they all are before. At this point, dungeons and to some extent raids feel like they're in an alternate universe from the open world, because I don't see how anything I do in the world affects the dungeons, and vice versa. The other big issue is the gameplay through menus. I complained about this when they replaced Ulduar's gameplay-activated hardmodes with TOC's UI switch to activate hardmode. It's gotten to the point that for most casual players, your gameplay isn't going out and killing things - it's sitting in your garrison using menus to send your followers on missions, your ships into battle, and to start work orders. Gameplay via menus is very boring. There's lots of other small things involved. Taking away the community doesn't make it feel like an MMO. Having linear questlines instead of being able to choose where to go makes you feel like a character in a story instead of a character in a world. Having so many difficulties reminds you that you are playing a game instead of defeating an enemy of your faction. While it takes imagination to immerse myself, it's far easier if I'm doing it through gameplay instead of menus, and it's easy to see how everything in the world connects to each other.
@kiopl20038 жыл бұрын
"You had to travel to dungeons, so they felt connected to the world. Your character interacted with the world and the people in it." people always say this and I really wish I was around for it. I love the levelling process, and maybe people rush through it these days so they can get to end game content, burnt hrough it and then complain there wasnt enoguh. I'm the kind of gamer that parralel parks my car in GTA because I like interacting with the world created by the devs. I really feel you on this point. There are too many menus in WOD, I'll agree, and garrisons did keep people shut away. But there were lots of great things to do in world and lots of great pvp potential in the world. Especially farming for those orc slayer etc titles. I see wht you are saying, but isnt the palyer base of WOW aging? I don't ahve time to play wow int he same way I used to. I cant play it for a few hours every night so LFR and dungeon queues allow me to experience the game where I normally wouldn't be able to. I dunno. it's such a diverse crowd playing wow, it must be hard for the devs to tick all the boxes. (except for garrisons which was such a bullshit idea, it should have somehow allowed your faction to build a city together. a raidable city lol)
@danielskrivan69218 жыл бұрын
kiopl2003 The thing is, the game was fine for only a few hours here or there. You wouldn't do dungeons and raids, but there was plenty of content for you to see running around the open world. If you played less often, the content lasted a longer time. As for the dungeons themselves, imagine this: Around level 10-12 on a Human character you go to Westfall. You've been fighting Defias pirates for a bit in Elwynn and see more and more of them in Westfall. Around 14-15 you go to the southern half of the zone and the casters present a real problem for you. As you're questing, you start to notice quests that say "Dungeon" next to their name in the quest log, and they tell you that you need to go into deadmines. You look it up and see you really want to be level 17 or 18 when you first go in, so you keep questing, and you keep getting more quests to go into the deadmines. When you go back to Stormwind at 18 to get your sills before going to do your first dungeon run, you pick up a few quests there as well. You go back to Westfall with several quests in hand. After you search for level 17+ players in Westfall and get a group together, you start fighting your way into the instance. You don't just get the group and start at the entrance, you had to fight your way in, and the mobs are closer and closer packed the deeper you go in. You realize there's an alcove off to the side, before you even go in, where one or two of your quests can be completed. So you can knock out a couple dungeon quests before even setting foot inside. Then you go into the dungeon, and you start your run. There's more mobs inside than there were outside, and now they're all elite. If your tank doesn't know what he's doing, your DPS or healer are going to be eating swords. If your group doesn't use snares or stuns on low-health enemies, they will run away and grab friends to come back and kill you. Which sucks because healer mana matters and your healer might be running out. You get overrun and you wipe. Everyone comes back in. Maybe you start arguing about whose fault it is or what should have been done different. Maybe there's just a tactical discussion where everyone is cordial, but everyone stays in the group. It's less effort to teach someone how to play the dungeon and communicate than it is to replace him, because you can't just votekick and requeue. So you start talking to people, and you run the dungeon. Maybe it goes smooth after that. Let's say you were the healer in this run, and there were a few times where you did get extra enemies, (and you had a really bad tank) but you managed to keep everyone alive. At the end of the run, everyone leaves except for one of the DPS. That DPS stays in group just to chat. He tells you that it was a great run, mostly thanks to you and your heals. He adds you to his friends list. Sometime later, you and him are about the same level and run another dungeon. He asks you to run with him because he remembers you as a good healer. After that run, he invites you into his guild. Now you have a plethora of people who can run dungeons with you. You get to know the guild better and better, and as you approach the level cap they help you get prepared for raiding. You see how the community functions in this scenario, as opposed to just queuing for a dungeon, running it with no chance of failure, and then bailing on the group? This, and how connected the dungeons feel to the world, is what you missed. Now, maybe you decide that with your schedule, that's not something you can really partake in, and WoD or Legion fit your bill better. If Legacy servers are released, you could still play on live and have the experience you want, but I could go back and experience the epic world that was.
@kiopl20038 жыл бұрын
I agree with you that the game, as described by you, sounded great and more of an adventure. I would have liked to experienced that. But you inserted legacy servers into the end of your comment, and I'm not sure we were talking about them? It's a great idea, but it come with a lot of downsides as well. Namely splitting the community and reintroducing some of the broken mechanics of the game past. Wow vanilla wasn't perfect, as far as I hear from people, far from it. Legacy servers seem to be the go to request for players who seem to be more nostalgic than anyhting else, especially since the shutdown of nostalrius. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of legacy servers, but it's a very complicated thig. Not sure we copuld really cover the entire concept in this youtube comments section. But that aside, you are correct, the community aspect of dungeons and raiding are soemthing that I am very aware could be and probably used to be better. I don't like queueing and running dungeons with randoms, I mean it's great time wise, but I never realy experience anyhthing or learn the mechanics. ( I have never radided outside of LFR for this reason)

About the challenge modes: - The dungeon you need to run is defined by the keystone level, so no pick and choosing for the easiest one. - You're always against time, there's no other objectives or challenges. The mobs receive a damage and health boost based on the keystone level and on higher levels you can have extra modifiers (like the enrage, or constant DoT). Modifiers will change weekly, so you don't have a situation where a resto druid is always better on a specific level. If you look at how it's done in D3, there's a few systems in place that allow you to skip lower levels if they are trivial to you (you gain the keystone after fighting waves of mobs, with the keystone power higher the longer you last, and if you finish a grift too fast, the keystone will get more than 1 level) so hopefully they'll implement something like that in WoW to avoid people redoing the same 5 early levels all the time.

I think the dungeon system sounds amazing. First the keystones give you the dungeon you have to do so you can't pick and choose, but I don't think if they said if it changes with the upgrades (I assume not) and that could possibly add extra challenge being able to choose which dungeon would be easier with these augments. Also I think the timer will be fine if it is tested enough to give it a time that makes you feel you can't just sit around, but that you can get a breathe in every now and then without feeling like if you're not moving then you're just gonna fail. The augments or w/e they're being called can in my opinion be one of the best features ever added to dungeons. They can add so many cool effects like adding a Matryoshka doll type effect that when a mob (or possible boss) a smaller less powerful one spawns and so on an they could add its own multiple so the smaller one procs another and ect as much as they want. They could add something that makes mobs aggro reset all the time making them attack random putting more pressure on the tanks. If they get creative with it I think it will be amazing. Legendary ring though.
@seangannon60059 жыл бұрын
I think you misunderstand challenge modes. first off the keystones point to specific dungeons. secondly I completely disagree on your views on the challenges not being "fun". if you've ever played halo with skulls you'd know what I mean. corpses exploding upon death is not only hard as nails it's FUCKING hilarious. a constant dot would be a great challenge with an emphasis on healers, while enemies engaging at 30% would have an emphasis. so unless you expect them to add extra bosses to fight(which they won't) what do you think is fun
@MegaDivineChaos9 жыл бұрын
+Sean Gannon ^This. Exploding corpses isn't "more damage, more healing" it's something for the group to be aware of, and move away from. Enemy enrage at 30% means controlling DPS, not just more DPS, you will want to make it as easy as possible, so unless you are absolutely wrecking them, you're going to bring them to 30% and then kill them one at a time. Constant DoT is going to mean that healers are always going to be on their toes, they need to try and keep everyone up, and it also makes interrupting AoE effects more important, so again, encouraging properly obeying fight mechanics, even on trash.
@seangannon60059 жыл бұрын
MegaDivineChaos exactly, you explained everything better than I did. It'll be great. Plus I'd also disagree with what he said about "casuals" will be put off by it. In my experience people tend to like something that's a bit harder than normal as long as there isn't a huge barrier to entry. So I can imagine let's say you join a premade group in the finder one week and things go OK and you actually add those people and next week you go for it again. There'll be a decent bit of variety since they'll probably cycle through dungeons on a weekly basis meaning it'll be 10 weeks before you return. Things like that have alot of potential with cross realm becoming more and more regular
@frub21069 жыл бұрын
+Sean Gannon Corpses exploding causing instant death in a small radius? Sure it can easily be maneuvered but say if your slowed by mobs, stunned or immobilized could make it interesting, even if it's not a long term solution and will become boring maybe they will add new challenge mode mechanics to the bosses themselves or the dungeons.

literally listening to this while grinding stuff out in wildstar. on topic, i am super excited about the challenge keystones. as someone on a low population server, this will (maybe) provide me with a ton of content to do even without a raid group, as having 5 people is much easier to organize than an entire raid group (we tried to do mythic raids on a low pop realm, was not fun). also might work X-realm (hints at having more x-realm functionality is exciting, but we will hear more about that in the future), so i am totally game with beeing able to choose from a wide variety of players to form "THE TEAM". This all comes from a guy, that prefered doing CMs than going into raids for a long time now. Really cool to see that wow is pulling those kind of ideas from games like GW2, W* and others, to make small group content fresh again.

RE: class hall events - I can see each class unofficially setting up a chat channel and sending out messages whenever say, a mount quest shows up in your class hall, freeing people up from having to hang out in the hall pointlessly. If they're REALLY infrequent, the server might just use a single custom ClassQuest Channel - or even Trade - for all classes. Anyone who did Higher Learning (the Dalaran book achieve) during Wrath will be familiar with that kind of cooperation. It does happen! :)

Class Halls: I think what they were trying to say is that you will *want* to go back to your Class Halls, because there are more things out in the world to get to and they needed a central place for you to get back to and check on. Not necessarily that you need a place to go and hang out at waiting for quests to show up or something. It's only a garrison-style in terms of the table of quests, from what I have gathered and seen, but it is you who have to go out and do the quests. Granted that these will probably have a stronger priority of importance if you want to gain artifact points for your weapon.

I think we should clarify that the profession update is Legion only, when specifically asked if old materials would be relevant again they said they wouldn't. I think it's better to air on the side of caution and say that you will only get these profession quests in Legion, otherwise people will be quite set up when it launches and this isn't the case. Also in WoD every profession has some cheap catch up 1-700 like the Draenic shine dust thing, so Blizz is giving up on old world mats entirely.

The Artifact endgame progression could be somewhat compared to GW2 masteries. It's a good, potential form of endgame progression, where you focus on your abilities and gain new ones. For GW2, it worked out really well. The only problem that arises from this is, depending on how long it takes to get your artifact perks done, people will start complaining about having to grind, and people might find ways to get that Artifact Power really quickly. And then people will get the feeling they need to go at the pace of everyone else, instead of their own.

One thing that you have wrong in the keystone challeges, If you fail the stone depletes! Meaning: You wont get loot the next time you use it , but if you make the time with a depleted stone it will be upgraded to a higher level and be empowered again giving you loot for the next keystone run. So your keystone will not be destroyed when the tank dc's or anything it just makes it that you need to do the same difficulty to complete the dungeon within the allotted time. Also leveling the keystone up doesnt mean you get an affix everytime. It just makes everything a little bit stronger. How the affixes are generated is sofar unknown. It might start out with affixes and never get new ones while lvling hte stone or they might be generated at random on level up.

Now that you have mentioned master craftsman being part of the new expansion I think it would be really cool if full level master craftsman could create vendors to sell their own creations. I really think that they should implement a class hall message system plus a PoE/D3 portal system where you can drop a portal back to your hall do your event or whatever that hop back through to go back to what you were doing, that way you have a quicker way back and forth and your hall doesn't waste even more of your time

They stated that the challengers keystone will point you to a specific dungeon as it levels up, so you don't get to choose which one to go to. At least that is what it sounded like.

I would say the same as with D3 a meta will form for the challenge modes. However, I envision it to be more random than WoW typically is. More in line with how D3 goes. I'd figure the D3 team told them to add a function that checks how high in the mode you have achieved. Last patch in D3 added the function to pick any difficulty you have completed before and even pick 1 higher than you have completed. I'm personally only excited about the challenge modes. I wish they were queue able tho. Eventually you would want a dedicated team but at the lower difficulties same with D3 I don't see a reason for why not.

@Preach just some thoughts on the world drop legendaries what if we take a step back and look at legendaries as a whole. People are comparing the random drop chance to Diablo 3 but in Diablo 3 legendaries are abundant. In WoW legendaries have always been looked at as items that requires a long time to get but with the new system it sounds like they are dropping this system. Just from what it sounds like in my personal opinion is that they are changing the concept of legendaries in WoW to be more abundant but less powerful. Sure the items they showed sound powerful but they stated those are subject to change. My thoughts were think of all of the mobs we will be killing on our way to level 110 hundreds of mobs now if(again assuming but could be interesting) the drop chance is about 1% (like most rare world drops) it seems as though most players would have 1 legendary now that could be interesting it just a a cool affect but not impact raid comps in a massive way.

What I took out of the Challenge mode was that you get a Keystone if you complete the time limit with all the things then it goes so from 0 1 2 3 but if you are at 2 and you fail you just go to 1 it doesn't get destroyed the power just depletes

I agree 1000% in this case i think time in CM should be a prefix like the others. Nothing is lost at all..as those players that can do that will still get the same old traditional CM rush plus all the prefixes before. Everyone wins. Well more importantly nubs probably never will lol but they at least get to dip their feet in. I know this might be a dated vid now; but from what I got the class halls are not locked off like the garrisons were. As in all the classes from both factions just like being in dalaran will be there. Id assume they would also have a similar chat running for it that garrison had too then. Would explain why they mention good idea to camp out there sometimes.

What I love the most about all of these announcements? That they indicate that we'll be all over the world. Paladins have to go to Tirisfal, Priests and DK visit Karazhan, Monks have to go to Pandaria, Windwalkers will need to visit Uldum, that's awesome. It gives you a LOT of incentive to just fucking try out every class and every spec.
@toaonua5239 жыл бұрын
Legendaries, if they think they should be grind-able, should be available through hard (think endless mode proving grounds/brawlers-esque) solo-content. Something that's available for everyone despite their playstyle, therefore keeps people encouraged and motivated, and is directly related to player QUALITY rather than quantity of time spent doing mindless things.
@thephenome14629 жыл бұрын
I think that the last thing you talked about, the events in the class halls could be interpreted a bit differently. These events might occur similarly to how invasions worked, with a certain pissed enemy faction coming to wreck a class hall because of the work of said class. And that could tie in with what you said, that it could be a thing where it is announced to you, and you have X time to go to the class hall and prep for the certain event (not saying that these should be limited to invasion type events). This is pure speculation, of course, just voicing an opinion.

+Preach Gaming Where did you get the info that we will go visit old locations for our professions? The only thing I did catch out of the Q&A is that they thought of it but didn't include it, because of min/maxing... Maybe I got that wrong, but someone asked if we would visit old content and they told him that there is so much new content for professions, that they had to focus on, that they did not yet work on going back for professions. Would be nice if you could answer that! :D

Preach, what do you think about other RNGesus in Legion, besides the legendary drops? It appears that Blizz may be embracing even more RNG in Legion, while at the same time stating that they have no plans for new or modified bad luck protections. Also, what do you think about the power creep? It's too early to confirm for sure, but the ilevels seen on gear so far show a massive climb in power. In combination with RNGesus, this has some pretty big implications.

If they're doing the challenge mode thing similar to Diablo 3's then it will probably also take the old idea of how keystones level up as well. The faster you finish a dungeon, the more levels it will it gain in one go. In Diablo 3 it was possible to jump as many as 10 levels per rift if you finished them fast enough.

Hey Mike I have a question for ya concerning the transmog system. One of the things that I'm worried about is that all of the transmog gear that will be sold for due to their appearances being added to the wardrobe automatically will add so much gold into the market that it might end up driving gold inflation up. In order to test this, for instance I sacrificed my transmog collection on one of my toons and ended up making 20k right off the bat.
@MegaDivineChaos9 жыл бұрын
+M Ni You do know you probably won't have those items available to xmog even after Legion hits right?

+Wee Man The toon used to be my main and back in mop my primary in game activity outside of raiding was collecting old raid gear for transmog. And yes that gear was bound I cleared out my void storage in order to do it that's why it has me worried I got that gold from selling it to the vendors.

For all you who wants to enjoy this game when it gets released. Don't hype it, you'll only build up too high expectations and be disappointed when it gets released. Just keep a neutral attitude and expect only what they announce. I've noticed that so many games/movies that people hyped and then said was shit was actually really good, and i enjoyed them greatly. Simply because people think something is gonna be good leads them to unrealistic expecatations.

about the legendary stuff out in the world though. from how they explained it, it might be the best boots in the game. but only for a specific class/spec or even play style. I mean it might have higher primary stats but they seem to be missing 2ndary stats but give a bonus buff/perk. so again it would be more on your play style....

Suramar is actaul MAX level zone, each zone gives you roughly 2-1/2 level each zone. They worded it out weird but when I watch the world content a second time that what it is.
@endofexistence21499 жыл бұрын
If people are too timid to step into a challenge mode dungeon; they should not be doing challenge mode dungeons. Also you mentioned some speccs being better than others, but it sounds like you were looking at it from the perspective of how things are going in WOD right now. They are really making some good changes to classes so we will need to wait and see just how those play out in challenge mode 5 man's. The legendaries are an option that I can choose to do, just life farming the mount in ICC, if one day I feel like grinding it out I can do that. If I don't then I can still go do raids and get some of the best gear in the game from end game content. I think a lot of people are getting to hung up on the legendaries when it infact if gives you another option and goal to work towards in the game if you want to or not.
@MegaDivineChaos9 жыл бұрын
1 thing to be aware of, is that there are only 4 levelling zones. Suramar is Max Level, not 108-110. The devs explicitly stated this.

you missread how the stone is gonna work for challenge dungeons. you get the stone by doing stuffs, yes. but after you got it, it will point to a specific dungeon youre supposed to "challenge" and thats the same for everyone on EU etc etc. after you go in on lvl 1. and you finish it with lets say 10 mins left, you will get to lvl 4-5 instead of lvl 2. i believe that the time you finish with is gonna be a factor in how much the stone upgrades everytime. as the upgrades go all the way up to lvl 20 or even more. The thing is though, if you dont beat the timer. the stone doesnt get destroyed. lets say you hit lvl 10, couldnt beat the timer by 1 minute, stone gets depleted. you still get loot, but youre able to use the stone again at lvl 10 and try again, second time you dont get loot, but you have a shot at correcting mistakes and get to a higher level. this is to counteract dc problems you might encounter with your group, so you dont waste 1 weeks stone because 1 member dc.

It would be awesome if when you kill the last boss in a raid (say emerald nightmare), he would drop a keystone of some sorts. That stone would have a level, that is determined by some things. maybe tries on boss, how long since raid started or how well people performed, avoiding dmg, dpsing or doing some kind of mechanic. The level of the stone would determine how much of the raid that would change, low lvl maybe just a boss. later the whole raid, bosses, adds or just aesthetics, traps, allys. the imagination is limitless. Say we get a stone that will change Cenarius fight in some way. we can now change the ways he would change through guild cooperation, professions or Orderhalls. maybe he has 15% more hp or spawn an add or his abilitis change, or he do them in another order or faster. or maybe even a new phase (kinda like a hardmode) how to use it? maybe, (say we use the Cenarius stone) we come to the boss, then we consume it (kinda like shatter it like a Life gem in Dark souls 2, in my head atleast). now during a set amount of time or tries, or maybe both he will have these changes. depending on how fast or how few wipes (or even succeding) we get better, more fun loot or even have chance for pet, toy, mount. say we fail. either he will return to normal, or if we had a a stronger stone, maybe he will now drop less loot, be easier or even dissapear. (to either you are now locked out of raid or just continue to next boss).

+Preach Gaming, I think you missunderstood the Challenge modes, or maybe I did. But I am pretty sure that if you fail a dungeon, your stone wount get destroyed, but downgraded. Lets say u level it up all the way to 25, and fail, it goes down to 24 or lower. Seems abit strange if you use many hours to get high level stones, especially at the end of the expansion since the gear dosn't gear scaled down if you need to do the same dungeon many times before it becomes challenging.
