brian eno composed a lot of sounds for windows, and not just win95. haven't watched the vid yet but I imagine he doesn't mention this, apologies if he did, but here's a fun fact! if you do a fresh install of windows xp, then hunt down the actual audio files (I believe they are either mp3 or wav) that are used within the operating system, and look at their metadata, you can see that they were exported out of a cracked piece of audio software lmao. and that audio was composed by, you guessed it, brian eno.

It makes genuine discourse pretty much impossible online. No discussion, just clowns rushing to respond with a pithy or dismissive clapback to get that thumbs up. Everything just has to be _the best_ or _the worst_ or _the least_ or _the most_ and if you don't like what I like then you have no taste and if you like that artist then your opinion doesn't matter. It's the same with video games, maybe worse. It's like, where can we go to talk about and discuss the things we _do_ like and recommend shit? I barely engage anymore because it's so rare to have a civil conversation.

I agree that the minecraft soundtrack deserves more credit and the brian eno comparison is spot on, to the point where I recommend music for airports to anyone who likes the minecraft soundtrack. not sure I agree with the take about cultural spread though. "ambient music" effectively didn't exist before music for airports, as in the term didn't exist, and it wasn't considered to be a genre of music that you listened to intently. the minecraft soundtrack wouldn't exist if not for music for airports. you could say the difference is that minecraft introduced ambient music to a much larger range of listeners and music for airports introducted ambient music to music culture itself.

One of my favorite "political" songs in recent memory is 'Why' by Chat Pile. It is an incredibly simple track in both message and structure. It simply asks why do people have to live outside? It doesn't go that deep into the issue, and I think that is a huge strength of the song because most people allow their feelings to determine their political stances anyway, so the most effective way of getting a message across is to keep it simple and simply ask questions that will force the listener to think and feel about an issue and arrive to the conclusion you're trying to guide them to by themselves.
