Hi, that girl was me. I was working at subway. That guy and his friend sat in the store for god knows how long trying to “sneak” glances at me. He didn’t attempt to speak to me until a co-worker told them they’d have to leave soon due to us closing. He was being “rushed out” the door due to this. And the thing he bought that “he didn’t want” was a meatball sub. I remember this because I remember being upset due to the fact I had just put the meatballs away and turned off the burner for the night and he sat there and watched me PUT THE MEATBALLS AWAY. If he didn’t want the meatballs he could of picked a turkey sandwich or something since the Turkey was still on the line. To top it off, he was the last person in the men’s room for that night. There was pee all over the floor and the toilet when I went to go clean the restrooms. This was a GROWN MAN. I still shiver at the thought of the state of that bathroom. Thankfully I no longer work there so I don’t have to deal with stuff like that anymore.

There was a review post going around locally (to me) where a guy was complaining that he didn't get to go home with a bartender. He stayed at the bar for 5 hours waiting for everyone else to leave, spent thousands buying rounds and tipping big so that she would see how "generous" he was. Then when the bouncer made him leave, he hid behind a tree in the pitch dark waiting for her to go to her car. Then he tried to "surprise" her by grabbing her arm from behind, twirling her romantically and bringing her in for a first kiss. So she kneed him in the balls hard and fled in her car. He was still on the ground when the cops got there. He wanted her fired, a refund of the money he "wasted" and more for pain and humiliation. None of it would have happened if SHE hadn't smiled at him so much and made him believe that he could f*** her... what else was he supposed to think?

@randomhuman_0511 ай бұрын
Coming from someone who struggles socially due to comorbid anxiety & adhd (I often miss signs I’m bothering someone or crossing a line I shouldn’t have crossed): make your students feel heard, let them know it’s ok if they don’t get it yet, or if they can never fully grasp certain things. I’m out of High School and still cannot always tell, for example, if someone is joking around if they tell me to stop doing something, however, I understand that it’s something I need to work on😅. Just, make them feel seen, and don’t shame them for struggling, especially the boys in this case. Folks who feel supported are less likely to fall into this sort of thing. (Note, not a professional, don’t 100% take my word, but from personal experience I know that knowing its ok to not fully “get” something can help with that feeling of trying to find a “solution”, in this case, falling down gross misogynistic rabbit holes)

As someone who struggles with social cues and connecting with people in the real world, do you have any tips for connecting and learning social cues?
@hailyjohnson40711 ай бұрын
@LydiaDeKett do you have any close friends you could ask? I have a handful of autistic friends who have asked me about situations and asked me if they did something wrong or how to better respond or how to interpret how others respond to them and we talk through it and I can help explain "hey, I know you feel and think this way, but here's the possible things that person was thinking/feeling/interpreting from you" to help bridge that gap. If you don't have any friends you coukd lean on for this assistance, I would recommend maybe watching some therapists on KZbin, or some KZbinrs who read reddit and offer nuanced, empathetic explanations. One of my favorites is Shaaba (Jamie Dodger's wife, friend of OT). She will read a lot of AITA posts and always explains things with such nuance and empathy. I am personally not good with social cues either, but I am good with empathy, which helps me a lot in communicating about emotional things. I can make friendships very easily but I can't maintain an acquaintance to save my life because if it doesn't require empathy, I am absolutely terrible at regular socialization. I'm not good with jokes or sarcasm, and I'm not good at reading cues, but I am good at understanding how people feel on a deeper level.

I've actually heard that cheating is _very_ common and even normalized by both sexes in Japanese culture, largely because sex work is highly sought out due to a strenuous work culture that doesn't leave room for relationships and normal social interaction (even in OTHER countries, Japanese men are infamous for being particularly insatiable when it comes to their proclivity for sex tourism). Also, the sex industry in Japan is fueled by mostly younger women using it as a secondary source of income to fund their education/lifestyle. So chances are that the so-called "traditional" Japanese woman they want isn't even a virgin lmao.

The easiest social cue of flirting is just. Consistent, almost persistent touching. Not like getting your attention, or even pushing you a bit when they laugh at a joke just. Randomly touching you while talking, usually gentle. The only time this doesn’t really apply is if you’re saying something sad. In general usually positive conversation though, it is a very big indicator of liking you because they’re trying to get you to associate them with positive touch. Which is usually offered most by lovers. Though honestly, asking “are you flirting with me” can make things a lot clearer, they’ll either be confused, pretend to be confused to save themselves the embarrassment, or straight out say something like “what? This reminds me of an article in a newspaper a few years ago about how often men misunderstood their hairdresser's intentions when they would engage in small talk. It contained interviews with several women who had experienced this misunderstanding - and were tired of being treated like they had led these men on - that they felt the need to contact the newspaper and put out a PSA to men about how said small talk with a customer is just being pleasant to a costumer, nothing more. It's literally just their job.
@wartgin9 ай бұрын
That's related to a study they discussed on NPR after the MeToo movement gained momentum. They looked at students placed in male - female project pairs with some placed in hierarchical relationships and others in peer relationships. Although it was somewhat less for women, in hierarchical pairs both men and women were more likely to interpret the behavior of the lower partner as flirting even when said behavior was seen simply as polite by impartial observers. In peer relationships, there was significantly less of this misinterpretation. Edit to correct grammar (missing word).

We interpret focused attention as sexual interest and respond accordingly. It's common in romances for the main character to muse at some point about what it would be like for love interest to turn that focused attention they are observing towards them during sex.

This can go both ways. As a customer, I had one guy worker at a store I love to frequent try to be obnoxious just to get my attention. Things like cutting me off to get to a certain section of the store multiple times, which was quicker than just walking AROUND ME, talking at a normal level until he saw me and then positioned himself right in my line of eyesight and then talking as loud as possible - sometimes in a way that should have embarrassed him, mind you and then attempting to chat with me ONLY when I was already chatting with someone else. Dude never approached me when I was by myself and never thought to actually use his job as an excuse to ask me if I was looking for anything and actually be helpful and maybe start a conversation that way. I honestly don't know what he was expecting me to do in that situation, but my whole thought process was if he couldn't voice what he wanted, then I was just a paying customer and he needed to stay out of my way.

“they never thought to consider whether the women were happy in these relationships” is SO true. a lot of people will point at the fifties and sixties pretending that alcoholism and eating disorders didn’t run rampant among housewives. like sure, it might have looked like relationship goals, but even in boomer generation couples the “my wife hates me” thing didn’t come out of nowhere. whether a woman was happy rarely even mattered for a wedding, it was more like “oh he seems nice enough and checks objectively reasonable boxes” for a LOT of them.

Firstly I don5 think you'll be alone for the rest of your life 😊 but there are a lot of g9od things about it. Are you an introvert or extrovert? Introvert: you never have to worry about coming home and wanting time alone and not getting it. You can stay up all night and never worry about interrupting anyone or waking anyone up and getting upset. If you are lonely, get a pet. Personally I prefer cats. My dad's dad was a straight up PDF-file (censored for KZbin) sociopath who we stopped seeing over a decade before he died, after my parent's learned of the things he'd done. So it can, in fact, always be worse 😅

Lmao this comment hit my heart because it's been repeated in my family so many times and so I sent a screenshot of it to the family GC and they blocked me 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 taking this one straight to therapy thank you for the funniest moment ever 😆

Right there with you. My papa died about 3 years ago and now that he’s gone my grandma and dad have been slowly unpacking what a volatile and selfish husband he was- to the point that my grandma was ready to go back to her home country because of him several times over the 60+ years they were together.

what makes you think your grandma was a decent person?

@@helvete_ingres4717 One would assume they knew their grandmother better than random guy with a PFP that screams "I smell my own delicious farts."

I think it was ContraPoints who pointed out that a lot of incels are, physically, perfectly fuckable. They convince themselves that they're so hideously ugly that nobody would ever want them but it really does come down to attitude and hygiene above all.

If all that mental baggage wasn't there touching some grass and taking a good shower would really be enough for most of these people.

Yeah. I'm an incel and people say I loom fine.
@TophinatorStreams9 ай бұрын
It’s literally just internet tribalism. Even calling yourself an “incel” is a doomer-presupposition. @scifirealism5943 , you and most other misled young men are bachelors. It’s a better outlook. Call it an “over-share” to present as an incel. You’ll be fine.

Most guys I know who physically present as "neckbeards" are great to hang out with, fully embrace their nerdy interests and many are in long term relationships. Guys who actually fit the neckbeard personality are stick thin and can't grow a beard to save their lives.

@@morbidsearch YES YES YES. Large dudes (of whatever height, I love a short king) often with scruff who dress casual and are probably huge nerds? TERRIFICALLY attractive! I wish more men like this would realize and have faith that there are plenty of people genuinely very into it. Someone who rejects you based on hateful opinions about your appearance is a bullet dodged. Thank your lucky stars the trash took itself out. Ugh. You do not want someone like that around for life!
