My Nomos Orion is the watch in my collection that inspired me to create the following quote: ‘As a watch enthusiast, you can pick the watch, but the watch ultimately will pick you.” The Orion attached itself to me in a way that left me trembling; I had to rethink everything.

Nomos is a very socially smart brand. The aesthetic is all. The craftsmanship is first class. They are independent too. The prices will double when they are eventually (and they will be sadly) bought out. Buy one now.

About 2 yrs ago, I added a Nomos Tangente Gangreserve to my collection and it was and is my favorite piece. I value craftsmanship very much, and Nomos is the best at example of craftsmanship in its price range. That's not just my opinion, but the opinion of many far more experienced reviewers/collectors that I've watched. The polishing and finishing on both the case and the movement is comparable to watches costing 2 or 3 times as much such as Rolex. My next watch will be a Metro, as only one of these treasures is not enough in a watchbox full of nice watches.

This exactly what I love about you and your channel. You rave over your Daytona and your Cartier yet you love the the Nomos as well. Three very different watches with very different aesthetics. Not everyone can appreciate Rembrandt, a Gauguin and a Mondrian (no direct correlation between the artists and the watches.) For a similar aesthetic with smaller lug lengths there is always Junghans, though they do have a more vintage vibe.

I have the Neomatik Ludwig in 36 but with the slim bezel it doesn't look at all small on my 7" spindle wrist. Super thin and once the strap is worn in is really comfortable. Own a tangente 40mm and I am torn , kinda love and kinda hate in equal measures . The value is fantastic and their design doesn’t compromise . It’s all face and and long lugs so it wears massively. I have the close case variant and with the totally flat case back that’s highly polished it flys and skids all over the wrist if you happen to wear your watch loose which is a real downside for me . You really have to think a little bit differently with nomos if you want to appreciate and enjoy their pieces . If you like the familiarity of the traditional wearing sports watches it probably won’t really be your thing unless you are prepared to embrace that it wears differently .

If you want an entry level truly fully in-house watch, Nomos is it, or aspiring for an A.Lange & Söhne, try the Bauhaus style on your wrist and see if you like it. They are literally neighbors and have plenty of similarities. They even produce their own balance spring or purchase it locally, not sure which, but be sure to get the DUW movements. The Alpha is originally a Peseux 7000 aka an ETA based movement.

Funny you said modern Gringa, that pretty much exact design including the long cranked lugs, needle thin hands and plain numerals was made by a few Swiss brands back in the 1930's. @h1115512 жыл бұрын
Nomos should be better received just because it offers in-house movements on an extremely cost-advantaged basis with nice cases and dials. While the artsy industrial design vibe may not appeal to everyone, the general thinness of Nomos references, the dials and the display backs should make the brand more uniformly popular than it is. Nomos is quite successful but it is really a case study in how long it takes to develop a watch brand’s legitimacy. Notwithstanding the proven track record of DUW movements, the WIS community often gives DUW movements faint praise by noting that they are not COSC certified or that they are based upon the movements of others, etc. The horological equivalent of a journalist at a politician’s press conference asking “Do you still beat your wife?” I think that Nomos watches are a terrific value proposition but that after more than 30 years of production they still surprisingly seem to be on probationary status with the WIS community.

That's most of a Tudor. So, I'd have the Tudor. Or a high end Seiko. Or a Longines. Or a Certina. Actually, screw it, it's so far down my personal list, it wouldn't hit the first page. And 30m. That's not just not a diver, that's maybe take it off if you're washing some dishes.

I respect Nomos, and I want to like them, but I just find them so bland looking. The dials are almost too clean, they're just nothing much going on. I've liked they thier collections, and I've found very few that made me stop scrolling to get a closer look at.
