If there's one thing that will get Lewis Black out of bed in the morning, it's the promise of grilled meats. It's the golden age of BBQ, with regional varieties to sate any hunger. From Texas to Kansas City to the Carolinas to even Rochester NY, meat is being put to flame with a range of sauces, rubs, and marinades. Just writing this makes us hungry.

I hate it when people leave their faith, and leave their traditional ways. For those people that eat pork, it may not seem like a big deal, but for traditional Jewish people eating pork is kicking our traditions aside, like they mean nothing, and going against God’s bible laws. For traditional Jewish and muslim peoples eating pork is forbidden. Eating pork is ok for gentiles, but for Jews and muslims it’s our long standing tradition to not eat pork. I’m sad to see people leave their faith, but at least Mr Black is honest to admit he has left the faith and is not practicing being Jewish anymore. I see the people in the audience laugh at Mr Blacks bbq pork jokes, but I’m not laughing at that. I find it sad that Mr Black has cast aside our Jewish dietary laws and cast aside over 4000 years of our Abrahamic traditions. For us traditional Jews it’s not funny at all. It’s a sad disgrace.

Jack Stack BBQ in Kansas City. Those ribs and cheesy corn bake I ate in 2005 are still haunting me. Their mail order is good too, though not the same as going there and getting off of their seasoned grills. You’ll convert Jews the world over to Jackish. 🤣 I get their mail order and it’s still better than anything local to me in New Jersey, though Cubby’s in Hackensack is quite good.

I don't know if Lewis reads these comments. Just in case, you have to go to this place called Woodpecker's BBQ in the Jacksonville, Florida area. You'll know it's the right place because there's a tiny little grocery store called Weedmans's. Next to that is the smallest gas station ever built. Across the street from them is Woodpecker's BBQ. You have your fuel, Weedman's, and Woodpecker's BBQ. What more could a human being ever possibly need? There's also the Shands Pier right there next to them. Get you some BBQ, gas up the car, buy some of whatever they sell at Weedman's, and then go sit at the picnic tables at the pier and enjoy the delicious food and a view of the St. John's River. I drive past it every time I go to Jacksonville. It can be 3am on the day of the second coming, that parking lot will be packed and the takeout window will have a line around the building. Even though it's out of the way, you'd think they got their recipe from God, Himself. I don't know what sorcery or magical powers they possess. Whatever it is, it makes their BBQ the best in Florida. I know that's not saying much. It _is_ Florida, after all. But it's totally worth the drive out there. I had to edit and repost this comment about 30 times because the KZbin algorithms kept automatically deleting it. I guess you aren't allowed to mention the exact location of places in a KZbin comment. Anyway, I was at the Jacksonville show at the Florida theater back in December of 2021. That was my second time seeing Lewis live. He is my favorite comedian. We had a great time. I hope he comes back soon.

If you're ever in Johnson City Tennessee you have to try Firehouse BBQ. It's in an old fire station and has an antique fire truck in the lobby, that's cool, but the BBQ is amazing! Trust me.

Pulled slow-smoked pork shoulder and vinegar-based sauce with some heat. Only way to go. You’d think Charlotte would have a ton of good places, but no. Only one: Smoke Pit in Concord, just north of the Speedway. Add some of Smokin’ Ed’s PuckerButt peppers if you like (even his Carolina Reapers if you dare), since they were first cultivated here, and you’ll forget all others.

if Lewis went to Texas, one place that would be good for BBQ & a bit of movie history is the Kingsland Grand Central Cafe aka the Sawyer house from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), which is where I got to visit at last year on the same exact day the film took place (August 18th) as well as The Gas Station. me and my folks even ate lunch that day in the same exact room that the dinner scene took place.

Seattle: Pecos Pit. Pulled pork, hot sauce, spike it on the inside. You gotta have their beans, too. I tried that mustard BBQ goop in Columbus, GA. Um, don't. No offense, I just could not finish it. I was working at whole foods and for the first time I ran into gefilte fish. More like it ran into me. Because whenever They had special food for a special holiday, whatever food was left over, they would put it on the hot bar and try to sell it to the suspecting unsuspecting customers. That was the first time I ever smelled such a horrid smell. The dish itself look like it was food torture. And this is coming from somebody who grew up with a family that lived in the country and except for me, ate chitlins. The smell when you would heat that stuff up, was like a hundred dead dogs, farting in unison. One day I made the mistake of spilling some onto my clothes and I smelled like that for the rest of my shift. When I got home I felt the need to set my clothes on fire. But I did not. I put them in a bag and threw them out. Yes it was whole foods property, but I don't think I could have gotten that smell out of my clothes with whatever detergent I had.
