Many products from European, American and Japanese manufacturers are produced in China because the labor costs in China are much cheaper, especially since they are ready in terms of human resources and natural resources. If you know that the minimum wage in China is standardized at around $400 per month, while in Europe, America and Japan the standard minimum wage is around $1500++ per month, so if product production is transferred to China, it can be said to save 50-70% on labor costs, while the selling price has been set globally, whether it is made in China, made in Japan or made in America, for example, the iPhone, which can be said to be 75% made/assembled in China, while the price has been set globally at around $999.

Chinese manufacturing is better than most places. Better and newer machines. 0% reluctance to develop job specific tooling. Japanese has kaizen and a good ethos and excellent QC and inspectors. China is living in the future right now doing the EV meme everyone claims to want. Russia is literally buying their 2 generation old garbage(Haval). Chinese motorcycles are somehow Japanese quality, the welds on CFMOTO's products are incredible. But I think for Lexus' BRAND, the QC and heritage of made in Japan is important to certain buyers.

Even if Lexus were to copy pasta and make the EV lineup in the US or US-tariff friendly countries, it would be much more expensive for them to do so and will pass that cost to the consumer. The move to making EVs in China makes sense if they want to grow their presence in China, the world's largest EV market, which also happens to be the global leader in EV manufacturing. Their plant in EV could signal that Lexus is expanding their partnership with CATL, allowing them to source EV batteries from a local, Chinese source, subsequently allowing them to reduce cost and compete with the likes of BYD. Either way, I am enthusiastic that Toyota/Lexus is finally coming to their senses and building a true EV lineup.
