Great review the LG 55" UR8050 4K UHD LED Smart TV has just been released here In Australia I've been looking at LG, Samsung, Sony & Hisense they all have good TVs but Hisense is a test market here In Australia & I've heard they have some issues with software firmware updates, I like the Sony because it's Google TV & I wouldn't have to worry about setting up another account just to use the smart TV features.

I name these as "HDR-Compatible" TVs, but they are not HDR TVs. The peak light output is just over 300 nits, but if you look at the graph on the right hand corner of the screen at the 7min mark of this review, the gray "measured" line is much below the yellow reference. What this means is that all HDR content is being shown much darker than intended when referencing ST2084 gamma; it defines the signal-in light output definition. The TV can't do it, so watching the HDR edition of a movie will appear darker than the SDR version and the highlights are aggressively tone mapped to fit the limited light output of this display. It will also look incorrectly coloured as well since the TV does not have a wide colour gamut (8:44 video). Yes, the TV just "hard clips" colours (Dolby Vision exists for this very reason as it understands not all current HDR TVs are created equally). This begs the point: why watch 4K-HDR on this TV? I wouldn't. This is an SDR TV that is compatible with HDR images but displays them in an inferior manner. Most, if not all budget 4K HDR televisions work the same way. They're very similar TVs. The only notable differences between them are that the X80J can display a wide color gamut for HDR, gets a bit brighter, and has better response times. It also has a flicker-free backlight, making it a good choice for people sensitive to backlight flicker. I recently got this tv in a 43" and tried both Doom eternals and Dirt 5s 120fps mode, and the game optimiser menu stated I was in 120fps? Didn't necessarily feel it with doom but dirt 5 definitely felt smoother.

We haven't tested the AU9000 yet, so we can't speak to it unfortunately. If you're not in a rush, we will have a more clear idea of the options as we continue to test more TVs! But to answer your question now, depending on what size of TV you're after, the Sony X90J could be a good option. It's $1198 right now for the 55" or $998 for the 50". If you're not worried about 120Hz though, the Hisense H9G would be the best option (65" is $949 at the time of writing).

When we tested this TV, the manufacturers website and user reports confirmed that the 82'' and 86'' both had 120hz panel. Unfortunately, since we haven't tested those sizes, we can't say for sure whether or not 4k/120hz works properly. Sorry about that!

The 6090 LG is usually a holiday model at most box box retailers, and your better off keeping it than spending money on a similar tv, unless you want the redesigned magic remote. I would save up for a tv with some form of local dimming or some form of backlight control because just like the 6090, it’s an edge-lit television. A good upgrade would be the nano cell 75 model they introduced this year.

Bought the 55up8000 and 2 1/2 months later it breaks down. It started with Alexa not working, then the auto updates not working to the thing saying it's having server issues and your internet not working and finally not being able to download the user agreement to use the apps and other stuff. Now I'm waiting for a tv technician to come over with parts to fix an 80 day old tv. I wish I would have done more research on the showroom floor at Best Buy before making this crappy purchase. First and last lg tv for me.

I chose this one because it has Dolby Atmos passthrough which the Nanocell does not have. But the Nanocell is supposed to have better colors, and I don't know if better brightness as i find this one too dark. But eveything else is the same.

The Samsung has a much higher contrast because of its VA-type panel, and the LG has wider viewing angles due to its IPS panel type. The Samsung is a better choice to use in well-lit rooms because it has better reflection handling and gets brighter, but it's still not enough to truly fight glare. On the other hand, gamers should appreciate the LG's quicker response time for smoother motion. It also supports 1440p, which the Samsung doesn't.

@@johnblakewerth810 Hisense is almost the same as (sometimes better than) TCL. You could buy a Hisense in the UK/Europe with similar specs. TCL and Hisense aren't "budget" brands - they're Chinese brands with huge scale, aggressive pricing (like Chinese phone makers), mostly due to a dominate the market long term plan and heavy government subsidies. You will always get a more reliable TV from Japanese or S. Korean brands, but the difference is only slight.

Hello there lads.. I want your help ! OLED Users can you please answer this mysterious question of mine about burn-in issue on OLED Tvs. If i set to maximum brightness beak while Gaming Mode or Watching Movies & Tvs Shows for like 10, 12, 14 hrs but there is no logos nor static stuff, do i still have a chance of burn in risk. or it's all fine unless if there is static images & logos etc.. for burn in to happen, the pixel in question needs to be constantly showing one color. The brightness of that color and the duration of it are both factors to consider. I'm no expert, and I'm too lazy to search up stats, but if you are afraid of burn in, a brightness at 50% for static image wont leave a burn-in even for long hours. I've seen OLED Tvs demos in stores that goes for max or at close to it, playing everyday for operating hours

ADS is BOE's (Chinese panel maker) version of IPS. Slightly improved contrast over IPS. VA colours are believed to be poorer because of the viewing angle problem. If you were directly in front of a VA panel the colours are the same as IPS, but nobody ever views a display dead centre all the time, so VA is at a major disadvantage there. IPS colours also seem to pop/look more lifelike or CRT like because the backlights are often brighter/let more light through, but it's mostly due to the better viewing angle. Some VAs have better viewing angles than others to the point where it doesn't matter much (typically panels made be Taiwan's Acer/AUO, one of the oldest panel makers).

@@SeventhMarkfor similar or cheaper price, i would go for last years sony x900h, tcl r635, hisense h9g. I like to watch movies and tv shows. Contrast, color gamut and hdr brightness are what i look for when choosing a tv. Yours might be different.

I just returned a hisense A6g which is their budget tv. It was not good at all. No matter what adjustments you made it never looked right. I tried the lg UN7000 with the VA panel and it is much better. It might not compare with the u6g or the other upgraded models, but it’s important to Compare like price point. The hisense seemed cheap. All the way around. No depth to the picture, horrible sound, and settings that either drastically changed picture or had to effect. The lg has much better quality feel to it. I may try another brand if I become unhappy with the LG but as of now much better.
