People across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum came to the VICE offices in Brooklyn to hash out some of the most pressing issues they face today. This is part 2 of that conversation.
Within the LGBTQ umbrella lies a multitude of identities and ideologies. In an effort to showcase this VICE gathers a diverse group of progressive and conservative members of the LGBTQ community to discuss topics that relate to queerness and its intersection with culture, and politics.
Our goal is to foster conversations that are already happening within communities. With this format, we hope to give the viewer a rare opportunity to witness a conversation with people across the aisle that they otherwise might never find themselves in.

I think, and I honestly might be wrong because I am definitely lacking in trans knowledge and education, but it's that the terms "boy" and "girl", as well as "man" and "woman" are all gender expressions. That they identify as a boy, or a girl, etc. but female and male is the sex, ie. what organ is between their legs. so that person most likely is referring to them having a sex change, but not identifying with the terms that are gendered like "boy" or "girl". AGAIN might be wrong!! That's just what I understood

The moderator treated blaire (the conservative trans woman) harshly and allowed people to speak over her. Blaire's voice wasn't being heard and she wasn't able to give her view without everyone putting words in her mouth.

I think for non binary people it’s a case of, for some, wanting medical intervention to help them aline they’re gender identity, however that may be, as opposed to transitioning from one to the other as non binary people can still experience dysphoria.

I cannot believe that people don’t understand what Blaire was trying to say. She was not trying to say that being non binary is not a thing and is not a part of the LGBTQ+ community but they’re not a part of the TRANS community. That’s not meant to be offensive it’s just a fact. Trans people identify as the opposite gender that they were assigned at birth. Non binary people identify as no specific gender. So saying you’re non binary and transgender at the same time seems contradictory to me and to Blaire as well. Some people are really starting to sound like Trisha Paytas claiming to be several letters of the community when they contradict themselves. While Jamie was asking Blair a question, they mentioned "people telling other people that they can be either feminine or masculine", which says everything about their world view. They are completely confused. A woman can sometimes be feminine and sometimes be masculine. Today I could feel like styling my hair, putting my makeup on and wearing a dress with high heels to work, but tomorrow I could just make a ponytail, put on my most masculine checked shirt and Timberlands and wear no makeup. A woman can equally enjoy taking dancing AND carpenting classes. At the same time there are many women who are extremely feminine and it doesn't make them more of women than those who are used to more masculine kind of behaviour. So when Jamie was talking that reminded me of a situation when an inexperienced teacher, early in their career, has to explain something they are confused about themselves to their students. When you yourself don't fully understand what you are talking about, people around you will not understand you. And there's no wonder some transgender people don't want to be associated with non-binary people when one of the latter says that they are neither a man, nor a woman and at the same time they're both and even "beyond". What does that suppose to mean? The inability to define what you are distorts your whole perspective of the world around you. Overall, most people were quite respectful towards each other. I think that alone is precisely the problem with the LGBT community. EVERYTHING is so incredibly nuanced that everyone wants to make a special box that fits exactly to their specifications, but at what point are we going to stop adding letters to the LGBT acronym? And why does everyone feel the need to identify themselves under some very specific label? I doubt that being a non-binary trans femme whatever the hell comes up in conversation daily and the average person is going to address you by the way you present outwardly, bottom line.

Alejandro biologically yeah I know. She presents herself as a woman and got her gender lawfully changed so she’s technically and mentally (not biologically) a woman. If you think biologically is the most important then whatever, i don’t really care, but she looks like a woman and has gender dysphoria so I call her a woman

Yes, sex based on a biological factor so it's the most important thing. You can change your looks however you want, you can lawfully change your sex in the passport, etc, but in the reality you're still your biological sex. and it won't change. Your last sentence makes no sense because feminine men can look stereotypically female and have gender dysphoria. Would you call them women too?

Alejándro / Technically, Blaire is just “a man with a bunch of surgeries,” but if we didn’t know she was trans, we’d be using she/her pronouns, since she obviously resembles more of a female. It’s really just better to be less confusing and use female pronouns on her. Using male pronouns on Blaire would be about as confusing as to use she/her or they/them pronouns on Jaime when he’s obviously just a guy wearing women’s clothing, and doesn’t resemble a female in any way other way.

Its called transitioning for a reason. I don’t think blaire was against non-binary people at all, but they felt as if it was a personal attack. I’m just confused why they thought they’re included in the trans label when they’re not transitioning to one solid identity? Like if you’re comfy in the middle… you’re non-binary. What was that entire argument even for? They want a label for non-binary people and they got it. They don’t want trans people to have their own category? So much for preaching inclusivity.

I honestly don't get why the white male got so triggered when she mentioned his privilege creates a bias. it's a statement not an attack. my ethnicity has a bias, where I grew up, where I lived etc, hell my gender and taste creates a bias, I don't get why he was being so defensive. biases are from experience, privilege is created through the act of acting on biases (imo).
