I observe by looking at his hand while playing that the whole hand shapes the tone, the thumb is just the boss. He uses the hollow of his palm as a second resonance body and then there is his soul, which hears exactly how high or low he pulls and intones the notes. He slides a lot, or half-slides, and I notice so much more about his game and the individual techniques that he has formed. This has always fascinated me about the guitar, because it is an instrument that allows infinite playing styles. Jeff has a way of playing where you have to tinker for a long time to crack all the tricks. Jeff will go somewhere and all guitarists in our world know that the guitar leads the musician to his individuality when the musician understands the guitar and lets it go freely. The guitar is part of the bread and the musician fills it with life and together they awaken food for the soul. Big thanks to the freedom spirit of Jeff Beck and the music.

Organic player that he is, Jeff never uses a pick and avoids the use of pedals except where absolutely necessary. He's a heavy user of the whammy bar in conjunction with finger-rolling his Strat volume and tone control knobs. A little known fact is that friend Stevie Wonder originally wrote "Superstition" for Jeff while he was playing session guitar on Stevie's 1973 album "Talking Book." Stevie ended up recording it himself and scored a #1 hit with the song 🖐😎

To the fans that have followed Beck throughout his career, of the three BIGGEES of the English guitar scene, he was the only one that always took the guitar to another level. Clapton when he was with Cream was basically at that time, music wise, the top man, Page during Zeppelin days became the most popular guitarist perhaps of all time, not to mention probably the richest. As far as music, only Hendrix in those days was the kind of innovator Beck was, and with fusions undisputed king John Mcglauglin, Beck new he had to go further than before. When Beck heard, Mcglauglin, Dimeola, he knew then, that there might be a music that would challenge him to another incredible level. With Van Halen changing the limits of guitar Beck now had musicians pushing the limits like what he and Hendrix did years before. In the mean time he can go back and forth from Rock ,to blues, fusion to funk, and he can still make that guitar BEG for mercy unlike anyone. This man is a true muso always expanding his art.And his collaborations with others are gems that cannot be forgotten about. Not to mention he has had the greatest drummers in his groups Phillips, Appice, Caliuta,Bozzio, since he formed his own bands.VIVA Jeff Beck!!!
