Since 1971-72 I have (very much) listened to and read R C's writings...and loved all he has done. To take all the subjects on that which he has done and, for me, always staggered me with his God-given ability to make/enable me to grasp the truth...or even enable me to grasp a part of these things that nobody else ever came close to...or they never even tried to take these monumental questions on. He was very intelligent, yet he would be able to look upon the simplest of us and somehow very gently leave us with things to take away from whatever he was teaching. I am happy he is in heaven with his God and Savior in complete bliss, though I am still often wanting to see that beautiful face, hear that voice that I never tire of. JerynToney: And why is it that humans avoid responsibility? Because they can. Because they were created as creatures capable of both accepting responsibility and of denying resonsibility. Once we understand the laws of the universe created by God, we know that no thing (living or non living) can exceed its design. Nothing magical or mysterious happened to Adam and Eve that caused them to act as they did. They were, as we are, perfect.....meaning the perfect design God created. "Perfect," means, as intended by the designer. God intended and created humans with free will, and unlimited desires to pursue. Abel desired to please GOD. Cain desired to please himself. And both acted on their will.

What woke me up was getting stuck on the word “sin” and the concept that says “the wages of sin is death” and I realized I did not want to work for evil and therefore DIE, especially when I knew I was born in this body to overcome death - which through Jesus, this has been accomplished, but not by me, but by Christ Jesus, alive in me!

Very deep question... As God is perfect.. He includes in Him all information from darkest side to holiest.. He isn't dark but he knows the information.. so evil had these tools in him too.. but there couldn't be another "God" as if God creates a god like himself.. it chooses it's own way.. very very deep thing.. that's why God made us not perfect that we need Him.. otherwise our destiny is where evil is.. when we have all the glory..all the power.. we can't basically stay with God... Cause we choose to be on our own.. But that's much much deeper than my text.. but maybe it helped a bit to understand that how PERFECT it is to be NOT perfect hah.. it saves us.. and gives us the LiFE in Jesus

Hello my fellow humans! I am not saying that I not lacking intelligence, but I have reached an answer for this huge question that R. C. Sproul struggle with. The question is, how did sin came to be? Or where did sin came from? (24:35) this is my understanding; God is eternal. Before the Angels were made, he has existed eternally. And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. Therefore, before anything was made, he already had in his master plan to send his Verb to die for our sins. Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: I believe this explanation my Calvinist brothers and sister will understand it! Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee. So God sustained the beings that he creates he also can let them fall. Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. Because God is sovereign. Through his Spirit, he keeps his beings, that he creates, standing! The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments. So He pulled his Spirit out of Lucifer. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. So that is your answer; God determined in our end in order to show his power is mercy and justice! For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Peace my fellow humans!

This could be an example of what one looks like to be anointed. It’s by way of the Spirit I believe when truth precedes through a vessel. Even through our own. Which is not ours any longer by definition . Paul said he was a slave to Christ. Think about that momentarily. He was a slave to the Son of God. Paul chose to believe God as God chose to reveal Himself. He learned Gods ways along his journey or race of faith. 1 Peter 1:9 says that salvation come at the end of the faith. We must endure unto the end. Allow Jesus to have His way. Yes conform to Him. Help us Lord. Forgive us. Give us an obedient heart in the name of Jesus Christ. And the church said,”amen”.

Otherwise we fall into the pitfall of either trust in our own arrogance - which can be ‘evil’ in ignorance - or trust in human, the like of communists, who are full of Evil intentions and Evil thoughts - much worse than even our own ignorance or arrogance at the bottom of such pits?

Incredible! The Bible tells us and makes clear where evil came from. It sprang into existence the moment, the second, that Lucifer became proud and envious of God. Instantaneously, immediately, Lucifer's entire being was utterly and thoroughly corrupted. He retained not the tiniest molecule of righteousness and changed from a completely pure, sinless creation into a completely evil, wicked being that desired to usurp his Creator's rightful position and steal His throne. In short -he desired to become God. Have you not ever wondered how a created being could ever be so foolish as to think it could be, or become; greater than the One Who created it? This is what sin does: it completely and thoroughly corrupts both mind and soul -hence Lucifer was able to not only believe stealing the throne possible; but to be something worthy of pursuit! Now, you may wonder; how could God allow evil to exist, to enter into His perfect creation? The reason is because God is both just and fair. He is not a dictator. He does not force sentient beings (the angels and humanity) into obedience. God created the angels and the first two humans (Adam and Eve) with true free will. They were not pre-programmed robots with no choice but to do His bidding. The Bible informs us God is all-knowing and all-wise. It is reasonable to believe God would have thought how things could go in the universe He was considering prior to actually doing so; because we know God is a reasonable being. Scripture indicates this as well, we see it when we are informed: “For He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His presence. In love He predestined us for adoption as His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One.” (Ephesians 1:4-6) Lucifer, and the third of the angels who chose to follow him in rebellion; did not catch God unaware nor by surprise. We know the outcome of their foolish choice; they lost their place in heaven, lost their glory; and were hurled to the Earth, here to be kept in gloomy chains of darkness until their Day of Judgement. We know also, how evil came to reside in the hearts of perfectly created humanity. Lucifer used the serpent to speak to and entreat Eve to disobey her Creator by touching and consuming the forbidden fruit. And what was the lure? To become like God. Sound familiar? So too, Adam followed suit, both disobeyed and both were instantly made aware of their nakedness. Both were instantly corrupted. We know the outcome of their folly. They also, lost their idyllic abode, lost their glory and suffered separation from the intimate relationship with their Creator that they enjoyed before. No longer did He come and walk with them in the cool of evening. Furthermore, the Bible informs us that each child born to them possessed a sinful nature, from birth their spirits at enmity with their Creator and outside of relationship with Him. Thus sin and evil spread throughout the entire world, because all sinned. This is where evil came from and how it was allowed to enter Gods perfect creation. Obviously, the story doesn't stop there. Read the Bible to find out The Way our Creator chose to rescue many from the power of evil, to reconcile these into a right-relationship with Himself; and whereby Evil shall finally be destroyed forever.

The comment saying 'mythology' is really true. I know we've all been told how Satan took a third of the angels with him. Did you know that isn't found anywhere in the Bible? Also this idea that Satan at first was perfect, if that's true how come Jesus said that Satan was a liar from the "beginning " not that he became a liar. He was a liar from the beginning. Also, no one ever mentions Isaiah 45:7 where it says " I form the light , and create darkness; I make peace and create (evil)..... people will still try to get God off the hook but they don't need to. God created everything and has never been caught off guard. It also says God declared the end from the beginning . Sounds like he knows all already and evil just happens to be part of his plan for men to become like him. All too often we just reiterate stories that we heard without ever reading it for ourselves. There's a lot of them like "God helps those that help themselves " is not found in scripture In fact God really wants us to depend on him , not be some proud one that says ' I did it all myself'

True...nobody knows where evil comes from and how a good God can allow it--it is a great mystery. I appreciate Dr. Sproul's honesty. We just have to trust in God's goodness and providence in this matter. But as mentioned, we see in the Bible that God uses evil for good in many occasions. Joseph tells his brothers "You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people will be kept alive, as they are today." Perhaps God ordains the existence of evil in order to bring about some kind of greater good.

Free will is the seed gift from GOD to all creation. By exercising free will, creation removes from GOD's hands, any and all acts that GOD would select / choose to do for a creature, born from His love for us. Jesus showed us and all creation what the correct and proper response should be, - "NOT MY WILL BE DONE, BUT YOUR WILL, O FATHER." Lucifer, Eve and Adam were all so blinded by their glory, ego, beauty, etc., that they could not see that the correct thing to do was to give free will back to GOD as Jesus did in all things. Thereby, Jesus, who is GOD clothed in flesh, showed us finally the correct response = THE PERFECT RESPONSE.

Immoral thoughts are evil - we don’t always choose to think evil things (think of the guy that cut you off in traffic, or cut in line at the grocery store) Point is, our natural man is evil. Evil is inherent in man from the time of Adam and Eve. Certain elements of evil are just “there” and not “willful” but we are accountable none the less.

Proverbs 16:4 and Isaiah 45:7. God created all, even evil.
@spencer83882 жыл бұрын
It took nearly 10 minutes to even get anywhere. This question is not even that hard once you know and study the scriptures and let go of certain teachings that are unbiblical such as; God willing evil and suffering or, predestination. According to his own words around the 28:00 minute mark or so when explaining that a proper answer would need to come from a good “theodicy” or as he explained an understanding of God’s righteousness- you begin to very easily understand what evil is. As far as where it comes from and then why it’s been allowed or tolerated so long and answering the further questions as to Gods power or justice in stopping it, you can ascertain with a good understanding from study, and meditation. If God is perfect, loving, wise, just and powerful - and we see the qualities of the fruits of acquiring his spirit at Galatians 5:22,23 then we understand part of Gods righteousness. There are many many scriptures that show what kind of person God is. Father to the fatherless, protector and defender of widows. Jesus noted that God knows the hairs of our head, and even lets it rain upon righteous and unrighteous. Etc. Clearly then evil would be the opposite of who God is. If we know evil equates with ungodliness, unrighteousness, injustice then you define what those things are, or better yet can even be specific in showing what things are considered ungodly, unjust, and unrighteous. Proverbs 6:16-19 is a very good place to start where it lists things that God explicitly HATES. 1 Corinthians 6:9,10 and Ephesians 5:3-5 are pretty clear that such sins won’t be inheriting the kingdom. Ephesians 4:30 - don’t work against or grieve Gods holy spirit Hebrews 10:26 shows us that sinning willfully after we know Gods standards and defying them is also unforgivable. Galatians 5:17,19-21 - the works of the flesh and not being led by holy spirit. It’s clear that a proper definition of evil then would be acting and/ or living in opposition to God, possibly even an outright rejection of him and his sovereignty. Or even as Colossians 1:21 and Ephesians 4:18 say - being alienated from or having an absence of God in your life, not knowing him. What were the first actions that show this? Who were the first ones displaying those actions? Clearly Satan who lied, became an opposer/ resistor to God and his perfect sovereignty. Followed by Adam and Eve, then Cain. These actions were showing their improper use of free will. Genesis 1:26,27 all are made in his image meaning what? That he has given us he his instilled in all a sense of morality (our conscience) according to his standards, and also made us higher than animals where we don’t simply run ok instincts. We have the ability to think, process emotions, get to know and glorify the Grand Creator and have a relationship with him. We have a sense of justice. We can feel love. We can acquire wisdom and he has given us a measure of power as Adams original assignment was to subdue the earth and cultivate it. So we are imbued with his qualities. An improper use of our will and God-given thoughts and feelings though such as pride or jealousy for ourselves or something that belongs to him is what led to downfall. A rejection of his sovereignty when they “would know for themselves right and wrong”. When you talk about free will we can easily turn to the example of Job to show this. Satan made challenges twice towards God about Job and his integrity to God, first that he was only faithful due to the blessings he had received (Job 1:9-19,22) and then second when that failed that he was still only faithful due to the protection he was enjoying from God (Job 2:3-6,10). Both times, even though he did need some help, encouragement and readjustment he proved faithful and was recorded as a man known for his integrity to God and serving him, especially in a world filled with those who were evil/ wicked and for his integrity and righteousness he was blessed and restored. (Job 27:3-6, 42:12-17). Job and ones like him, Noah, Moses, Joshua, etc show that imperfect people can be faithful and love God. Jesus then showed that unlike Adam, even a perfect person could remain loyal despite challenges and temptations, even as far as giving his life to fulfill Gods purpose. Now we get to why has it been allowed or tolerated for so long? Once again simple - Ecclesiastes 8:9- man has shown himself ineffective at ruling themselves. Proves why we need God and his kingdom. And greater than that - Matthew 24:14, Mark 13:10, Revelation 14:6 . It’s not that God doesn’t have the power or desire to correct things it’s him giving all a chance to hear the message, and then repent before he brings justice. This is his true and perfect love and justice on FULL display. Giving all a chance to come to know and serve him before bringing judgment. Why? 2 Peter 3:9 he doesn’t desire anyone to be destroyed but they have to choose him and his sovereignty. Romans 2:4- this is out of his kindness. Habakkuk 2:3 - we know it will happen but it is on Gods time not ours. Finally once the end is here and Satan and his demons as well as all wickedness and false religion is destroyed evil will no longer exist. Just read your Bible
