Hey everyone Rho here! Today we're discussing Lion El'Jonson and the Emperor of Mankind as we ask just what question the Lion needs to ask the mysterious King of Caliban?
General Spoiler Warning to begin as today we will be referencing events from across the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Particularly the novel "The Lion Son of the Forest" by author Mike Brooks. As always I really recommend you read the stories for yourself first without spoilers! As that's the best way to enjoy the lore for yourself.

The Emperor is the "Fisher King", literally in the book. The legend of the fisher king actually tells us the question, and why there is a question. The questions has several different interpretations but it's essentially asking two things "What ails you" and "who does the Grail serve". Another way of looking at this is "why are you hurt?" and "to what end will healing you work towards" or more simply put.... ...."What is the purpose of this?" The Answer to the Grail question was that the Grail serves the grail king, as in there is a higher purpose at play. You could think the grail is a means to heal the Emperor, but in this case, perhaps the Throne is the Grail. Who does the Grail serve and what ails you become the same question and that question is not how can I heal you but "Why are you on the throne, why do you still want to be on the Throne, to what benefit will staying on the Throne give you" Big E wants the Lion to understand why he wants to be on the Throne instead of asking how can he be taken off it. Edit: The story of the FIsher King is actually a pretty good analogy for the Emperor in 40k. GW chose it deliberately. A king with a ruined Kingdom, trapped by great forces with only one last hope of redemption.

We got a lion, he has his own version of a wardrobe portal with his forest walking. We just need a witch now. I think the fisher king is the correct parallel, but i find the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe humorous especially if gw steers into the joke a touch.

I completely agree with the idea of the call back. "Where would you have me go" would be a exceptional end to the next Lion book and create a level of intrigue that could be the linked to the next primarch return. Maybe the healing idea isn't about the Emperor himself but instead about a lost primarch like Rogal Dorn who could need healing both body and soul.

Hey Rho What about this thought... maybe the reason why the Emperor can't move past the Throne is because of the warp tear in the palace. That tear is in the webway...i wonder if Wyrmwood has some part to play with that or even more tantalizing what if the "tree of life" isn't meant to heal the Emperor but to heal the webway breach on Terra. Removing the shackle as it were.

When big E resurrects the custodian in the Cypher novel with the line “not yet” may be key here. If big E has to die, then cypher gets the lion back his sword and the lion has to do it. Yeah? Idk.

Just that he had to ask specific questions while the darl king was handling chaos on an entirely natural level to themselves. And yes the dark kind is one made up of many.) (Now having the time to discuss with the lion in specific do to his unflinching nature and natural talent with traversal of the warp.) I feel like it's malcador. The emperor didn't have his shield against Horus. The emperor sent malcador to where his other aspect is. The lion needs to find Russ, protect the blood angels in nilus. (Chalice). The emperor couldn't be held in such a weak place. Maybe enough for a primarch or a very weakened malcador. Thoughts on this primise.

It was shorty after the book released, can’t remember where but I heard that the old man on the boat was actually Luther and he was the center point of the warp Caliban holding it together and the shadows are the ruinous powers trying to recorrupt him

That's incredibly stupid. Everything else is the Emperor but the most obvious Emperor analogy? Luthor is already corrupted and leading the fallen. Caliban was destroyed 10k years ago. There's nothing holding it together, and how would a mere space marine kept in stasis this whole time be keeping an entire planet together in the warp? Which in itself is a Magnus or Malcador level feat? Try using a little critical thinking

To me I see the emperor like in bronze on The Golden Throne molded to it never physically able to leave it but in his Transcendence to godhood He can go where he pleases no longer needing his original form to do as he wishes.

The Lion will find the star child. The star child will have a different view of what the imperium should be to the emperor on the throne. Then you can have conflict between the loyalist primarchs the way the pantheon can create conflict amongst the chaos primarchs. This way you can prolong 40k, without it ending.

Healing the Emperor may not be to get him off the Golden throne, as much as that may be desired. Healing him would be to make him independent of the Golden Throne's life support functions. His regeneration on the throne would still take centuries, if not millennia. Even then, it may not result in him ever rising from the throne, but reduce his suffering and increase his conscious awareness allowing more effective communication. More over, the Emperor my choose to parse his soul, allowing his corporeal body to take up the role Magnus was meant to as his Warp bound persona goes on to be the god everyone is worshiping him as. It seems an incredible cop out, but it comes at the price of a huge chunk of his power, but then gains the freedom of being wholly one in the warp and the other in the living world. This simply changes the role and position of the Emperor in WH40K.

Speculation is better than seeing the results of that speculation come to fruition. I don't ever want to actually find out where the Tyranids truly come from. I don't ever want to see the Emperor leave the throne. I don't ever want to see all of the Orks unite. There is enough depth, there are enough characters, and a literal galaxy's worth of locations to tell stories with that we don't need those questions answered or moments fulfilled.

How can it be the emperor as it's evident that the emperor is empowered to touch the material and immaterium. He's been fighting countless demons and shadows for 10 0000 years in his current state. It would take more than four shadows to hold him at bay. Numerous souls are given to him daily plus the faith factor. Malcador was dressed as a king when they met in the cave. Unkempt and trapped as the big 4 know what would happen if the true three entered the arena again. Valdor, Malcador and the big E. He burnt nurgles garden with just his sword and possession. No way could a channel in the warp keep his will let alone strength contained. Maybe if something like Horus was lurking in the waters.:) the warhawk to clear out the webway and valdor to take abbadons skull and throw it at the feet of khornes throne. Russ will be trapped somewhere that they need names and the spear.
