@@flubblubyou can’t deny that, even outside of the Mexican culture aspect (which shouldn’t be compared anyways, as if multiple movies can’t be based off latino cultures) the barebone base premises are the same. Boy who is misunderstood by family chooses to pursue music instead of the family tradition. Outside of that, they go in completely different directions.

@@showbizstudios655 i guess but that’s such a generic concept that if we’re basing it off of that, we’d say the movies are the same as high school musical. I’m not saying there’s no similarities at all, im just saying there’s really no need to compare in the first place given the amount of generic christmas and halloween movies that are allowed to exist free of comparison, especially to such a degree where you really can’t go anywhere where one movie is being talked about where they don’t bring up the other.

Fun fact: in Coco the grandma gives her grandson a petal of marigold flower in order to give him her blessing to return to the world of the living. In this movie, when the toro accepts the apology in the song, he turns himself into marigold petals and one of them stays with Manolo to symbolize that he was given a blessing. Marigolds are the flower of the dead in mexican culture.
@aquinohaynada99865 ай бұрын
I didn't know the flower was called that in English. Nor would I say that they are flowers of death, on altars they are used to guide souls to the altar, that is why a path is usually made with these, so that they do not get lost. Pero no es como que sea un experto en cempasúchil.

As a Mexican, I'm super glad you liked the songs from this movie! I think the movie is such a good representation of our culture, both the good and bad. Listening to the versions in Spanish hits harder to me specially The Apology Song because bull fighting is something inbedded in our culture. I think it's something cruel and I'm glad the movie does a good job delivering that sentiment. All in all, I'll say it's def worth watching!

This is such a good film!! So excited to watch this :D The basic plot is that the two men (Manolo, the main guy who is voiced by Diego Luna and who sang 'Creep', and Joaquin, who is voiced by Channing Tatum) have both been in love with the same girl (Maria, voiced by Zoe Saldana) since they were kids but she ended up leaving town (which is where the 'I will wait' comes in) so as adults they both try to woo her. But what neither realises is that two gods, La Muerte and Xibalba, made a deal on who gets to rule the 'Land of the Living' and the 'Land of the Dead' based on which of them wins Maria's heart. Manola ends up dying and must get the Gods' favour to win back another chance at life and be with Maria. Manolo's family is all bullfighters, but Maria helped show him that killing the bull was wrong, and the bull he fights in 'The Apology Song' is ALL the bulls his family has killed. He's apologising for ALL his family's sins. I'd highly recommend the film and I didn't want to give much more away, but I think you'd love it! (I edited this cause I just realised you had no context for this really good movie and wanted to give some)

It's cool that you mentioned feeling like they did Creep justice bc I remember hearing an anecdote that Radiohead is generally hesitant to allow people to use Creep in media bc they often miss the point of the song, but when the creator explained the scene it would be used in (the protagonist Manolo feeling like a rejected outcast and disappointment to his family, community, and the woman he loves bc he'd rather be a musician than a matador) they gave their full approval bc they felt it actually embodied what the song is about.

Before the "Apology song" they made another bet if Manolo(the man who sang to the bull) can face his fear which was bullfighting. Toward the end of the song the bulls "flames of anger " quite literally calmed. (You're welcome 😊)

@m0thernature730 Жыл бұрын
You only really get to know manolo through this, when you get to the movie Maria is her own person and that’s what I love is that in this movie about gods betting on romance it never feels like a love triangle or Maria never feels like a one note trophy, you know where the story is going, you know who are meant to be, that’s not the point of the story, the point is how manolo gets there, it’s manolos story but you don’t see Joaquin as evil and you don’t see Maria as a prize, it feels real. It feels true. Maria isn’t some damsel and Joaquin isn’t some enemy to defeat. They are a group of friends and they both love Maria, they are both good guys, and she is an amazing girl. So while its malolos story Maria is an active player and so is Joaquin. They feel so real the entire time you don’t even feel the least bit upset at the trio, just the Gods meddling.

In the 'Apology song' Manolo was fighting all of the bulls that his family has killed, those bulls mixed and created a giant bull; When the song finishes and the bull disappears into flower petals, it's a representation of the bulls finally getting peace to rest in the after-life , the petals are from a mexican flower called ''cempasúchil'', this are the flowers that are used to make the altars for the deceased ones in the day of the dead :)!!

@FallenGhoul Жыл бұрын
This was an absolutely delightful surprise. The Book of Life is my absolutely favorite animated movie, that fuels me with pride as a Mexican. The main message for this movie is both the idea of love and finding ones self. Our main character Manolo struggles between his love for music and his love for his family. He wants to live up to his family’s reputation and the towns expectation to be the next star matador (bull fighter). But of course he’s a sweet soul who wants to pursue music. On the other hand are his two of best friends. Joaquin, the son towns late savior and protector, struggles living up to the shadow his father left behind. Being raised by the town mayor to be the next big savior. And between him and Manolo is a strong friendship, but an even stronger rivalry. They’re friends but have shadows to step out of and a romantic rivalry for Maria. Maria is the daughter of the mayor. She has to fight between her true love and her family’s expectations. And there may be more to her. This entire story is a fight between ancient lovers. La Muerte, a beautiful lady made of sugar candy, who rules over the land of the living offers her terrain to her lover Xibalba, the ruler of the land of the dead. Both pick a champion and watch over them, not being allowed to intervene. I always recommend this movie. It’s a beautiful tale with great music, story and animation. It’s just great

The singer and the girl were childhood friends, along with another boy, before she was shipped off to boarding school. Both boys loved her and decided to become the best men they could in the hopes of winning her father’s approval someday; the singer tried to follow in his family tradition of bull fighting, but his heart was never in it. The other boy went into the military and became a decorated war hero; when the girl came home, the father wanted her to marry her other friend, not the singer. Both friends were actively trying to win her heart (and her father’s blessing) through the movie. She does love the singer, but she also has affection for their other friend-in the last song she was showing that, while she was interested in the singer, she wasn’t going to be with him just after one serenade.

The plot of the movie can be simplified to this: Manolo [MC], Maria [Girl], & Joaquin have been best friend since childhood, though they are in a love triangle. They take separate paths, Maria going to Europe, Joaquin joining the military ranks, & Manolo forced to become a bullfighter. When they meet again at the right ages for love, Manolo & Joaquin try to win Marias' love. But before they departed at childhood, Life & Death made a high-stakes bet on who's going to win Maria over; Life is betting on Manolo & Death is betting on Joaquin. I loved this movie when I was younger & still do :)

Book of life is an old movie that I watched when I was really young. Its basically Death and Life betting on which boy the girl will fall for.
