I love rockhounding the Llano! The butterscotch yellow ones you have in your bucket are my favorite to tumble.

Do you have any suggestions to where in llano I could go? I want to search for Llanite but don’t know where to begin
@cyndycyndyfinnell1537 Жыл бұрын
@@Yukisnowfalls we like to go to Kingsland Slab. Nice places to park, swim and look for rocks. I’ve heard that up from Baby Head Cemetery- Google it - there is a spot where you can pull off the road at an out cropping that has some. Also we camp at Dos Rios RV Park a few times a year. Great little park on the confluence of the Llano and James rivers. Great rock hunting, swimming and fishing there. Also Google it for more info. Have a great summer.

Thank you Shannon for taking us ( the audience) with you on your rock hunting excursion!! I'm yearning to do this, especially since I moved from CT to Florida! We just don't have any landscape like this, down here. It's more like looking for seashells and fossilized coral. You guys made out Very well for only spending an hour!! Gee if you're ever interested in selling any of the Llanite, please let me know!! I'd much rather be there hunting myself, but it's not possible. Do you have any tumblers to show? I feel as though I was with y'all and still feeling excited!! Thanks again for sharing your rock hunting trip!!😊🤩

If you go to the road cut on State Hwy 16, nine miles north of Llano, you will find the llanite dike. The rocks are about 1 billion years old, so nearly any rock you can pick up has been severely weathered, and many will crumble in your hand. However, if by some miracle you managed to chip away some rock from the main mass of the dike, you will find some of the toughest and most obnoxious rock you have ever tried to break. I used a heavy sledgehammer, and I swear, I did more damage to the hammer than I did to the rock. I have taken hardened stone, chisels and large crowbars And still came away with only little chips of rock from the main body. In order to find a meaningful sized sample, you are going to need to bang away for a good long time. Bring some friends and make an event out of it, and maybe you will have some luck. Llanite is very, very, very, VERY tough.

At 5:12 into this video, you said you were looking for a "lanite" outcrop? What word did you say? Because I couldn't really understand what type of outcrop you said.

It's called Llanite ( rock)

I live about 60 miles away from Llano here in Texas on the Brazos River. Over the years I have learned how to best clean most of the Minerals found across Texas. At one time I was a Cattle Ranch Manager, the back part of the property butted into the Brazos, which did nothing for me because of rock cliffs and being 60 feet above the water. All rocks go through a intense cleaning process and I use a product you can buy at your Ace Hardware store, it’s 30% Gobbler’s Vinegar. Its on the shelf in the garden center and is used for killing weeds. This is the highest percentage of vinegar I can purchase w/o having a agricultural license. This is just fine for what I have discovered.

You might want to look into getting a Falcon 2o metal detector. It is designed in finding gold deep inside rocks. Enjoyed your video

It happens to be 1 of the cities that always gets pronounced wrong. While yes in Spanish the Ll means it's pronounced with a y HOWEVER it's not the case here. It is pronounced Lano. Native te and and everyone in llano pronounce it with the L sound.
