A step sequencer has been asked for by producers for Logic Pro for quite some time now and the NEW Logic Pro X 10.5 Step Sequencer has finally been implemented with the new update. Personally my workflow has become so much faster and smoother with the addition of the Step Sequencer and new Drum Machine Designer. In this part one of a two part series, I will go over the different modes inside of the Step Sequencer and how they affect a drum loop that I've made with DMD. I will be doing a general overview and going through some of the backend as well, explaining how certain parameters and modes work to make your drum patterns more interesting.

The only thing I hate about Logic rn, that is messing with my workflow, is that 90% of my samples in the built in file browser can't be previewed instantly. Logic seems to struggle with anything above 16bit. Compared to Ableton and FL users, where literally all their samples can be previewed right away so they can find the best drums for their track. Even though I love what they did with the 10.5 update, I'm still having to use Alchemy's sampler sometimes just because it lets me preview all sounds at one click. If Apple gets on top of this, my life would be complete

Ya I feel that... I make most of my samples now from scratch and they’re in 24bit so I don’t have any issues. But could see this being frustrating

@@mehcustom24 I used it... didn't work for me to mass convert. The 24b files all came back distorted and such, would not recommend this program. The only effective way I've found is by doing it 1 by 1 via dragging them into Logic.
@mehcustom24
@mehcustom24 4 жыл бұрын
@@itstonyholiday Its a lossless converter that runs natively on mac, you must have not checked the options properly. I converted 60,00 samples and haven't found single bug in one since I did 6 months ago. I made sure top create a back up before hand just in case though. Btw, as a soon as you drag those samples into the logic session, the exact same lossless compression is done on them. Thats why you cant preview you them, Logic doesn't pay 24bit samples, it has to convert them when you put them into the project.

The only issue I see in using the whole kit in the combined pattern option is that I’m not sure how I could change the pitch for some drums like specifically high hats - I could use the option in the sequencer but then adding effects to just kicks or 808’s are out of the question.

Great knowledge share!! One thing I loved about FL was the any drums I made in the FL DAW always for some reason seemed to bang without doing anything. Before this tools logic had their Drum Synth which just made the drums sounds flat, a total flop. Now seeing Logic has this sequencer giving the same flow on sequencing drums like FL - any idea how to make them just pop, anyone else feel what I'm trying express? Or is it just me 🤔

This is so helpful thanks for the video :) I have one question, maybe someone can help - if I want to load a melodic instrument (f.e. bass) into he sequencer, by default it gives me only 8 rows (one C-major scale, 8 notes). I know that I can manually add rows and assign them notes one by one but can I also add more than that in one go? With drum kits I have the option "add all" but only for labelled notes and I can't find anything similar for just adding more registers without having to do it one by one for each single note...
