Holy smokes. I’ve only seen two shows and they were the best most moving shows ever. The show is managed with such elegance. People are provided such a safe space to make it so raw and translucent. Very profound. The feelings and experience translate. Wow. Blows American shows away. It’s such a gift, this show. With purpose.

this story is very similar to another case on a show that is american. the reunion was absolutely beautiful, one of my favorites; i've rewatched that scene over and over. then i saw this story today, and the reunion reminded me of that one. i've also rewatched this one several times.

I felt so sorry for Flo, too. It was just her and her dad after her mom died when Flo was 7.5 years old, and she had no contact with anyone from her mother’s side. When her dad then later died, she was completely alone. How wonderful the two sisters found each other.

Martin's adoptive parents are so lovely, big heart and very supportive. Despite of his "rejected feeling" by his biological mom, Martin shouldn't hurt his adoptive parents by leaving them just like that. Thankfully he came back and using his senses. Am I the only one that sees some heartbreak on Martin’s adoptive parents faces when he is talking about how he feels?
@kulsoomahsan4440
@kulsoomahsan4440 2 жыл бұрын
I think the heartbreak was for him that he had felt that rejection. And that he hadn't felt like he could talk about it and just left for a couple of years instead. And it seemed his parents had not realized until he finally said it, that rejection was what he was feeling as far as his feelings towards his birth mother. I think the mom especially wishes he had just asked to find his birth mom, she said she had information and had always been ready to give it to him if he asked for it but he didnt. Many moms adoptive or biological feel helpless and protective towards their kids as they watch their kids struggle with things that they can't help them with. I think that's where the parents felt heartbreak.... that they had been ready to help him but he hadn't been ready for it and suffered until he was ready.

When you love a child and they hurt, it’s the worst feeling ever that you can’t take it away or help.. My son is incredibly stubborn.. I felt every bit of his mom saying, “if you’d have come to me…” .. sigh.. sometimes they just HAVE to do it themselves.. even if you know much much better.. you have to let it play out and just be there to catch them in the end 😢 Considering how deeply he felt rejection despite the obvious love and support he has.. I’m sure she’s felt broke hearted lots of times.. I hope this finally helps set him free.. so he stops carrying around emotions that are misplaced and crippling..

The US constantly tout ancestry.com throughout the episodes; overkill. They also tell people on camera when someone has died; all sensationalism and not a scrap of compassion to allow someone to process that news in private. The UK is by far, the most considerate, compassionate and respectful. They also give more of the story of the journey.

I remember when I was 16 in 1990 I went to London with my friend. It was the first time I was in another country and somethings I saw really shocked me. I was there in mid December for Christmas shopping and it was pretty cold. I saw a young girl about my age,with a baby sitting in the stairs down to the underground begging for money. The tiny infant barely had clothes on , only a dirty nappy a hat and she had a thin blanked that half covered him and he was blue with cold. He didn’t even cry, just looked apathetic .. I had never seen a homeless person or anyone begging for money before . The memory is burned in my soul and I so wonder what happened with them both.

I don’t understand some of those people who are adopted n being loved n cared by their adapted parents n yet they are not grateful n be contended to where they are n just look for the better side of life instead of going to be a rebellious one….such a hurtful feeling to those loving adaptive parents out there..

I've known a few cases of people reacting with a lot of anger towards their adoptive parents like the first case. I suppose it is somewhat a natural response to the feeling of rejection. Although the adoptive parents are in no way "guilty" of anything, least of all of rejecting the children, they have to pay a prize when they face their sons or daughters' drastic reactions. So sad...

How awful for this poor mother. There are good places now that would take her in w her baby. How poignant and tragic! She loved her baby.
@Marcel_Audubon
@Marcel_Audubon 7 ай бұрын
There were good places then, too! Sounds as if she didn't have the support of her family and perhaps wasn't savvy enough to figure out how to access "the system" (it would be a rare 15 year old who would be). This show isn't long enough to tell every detail of their stories so we don't know what went on between her and her parents. Also, they almost always gloss over who the father is and whether there is any communication with him as part of the search, although I expect there is but it's done off camera. Assume in Martyn's case the father was a other 15 year old. He may have been terrified and wanted nothing to do with the baby back then ... but as a middle aged man, he would have quite a different perspective on it. They shouldn't pass up the opportunity for the paternal introductions.

I knew a family of four adopted girls ... Two of them NEVER cared or wanted to search, one was lukewarm on the idea and ONE was obsessed with searching and getting answers. Interesting. Not sure which camp I would find myself in?!

The shows where people meet siblings they didn't know they had, and have a great bond and are so close makes me wish I'd been brought up separate from my siblings. I might not voluntarily live halfway around the world from my family. Maybe.

Martin won’t realise how hurtful he’s been until he has kids of his own perhaps - fancy meeting his birth mother and saying it was like coming home, after the wonderful life his parents gave him. Shame on him. I feel sorry for the parents

I wonder about one thing: Why do those adopted almost always search for their birth mom and not their father? Fathers are a part of them just as well.

I understand his adoptive parents were confused by his sudden disappearance, but statements like “if you had questions, you could have asked” kind of rubs me the wrong way. Adoptive parents MUST be proactive and make the initiative. They should have said “if you ever want to know, you can come to us.” Kids are so afraid of offending their parents, and assume that if it wasn’t a topic of conversation, there was a reason. Silence also speaks on implicit feelings. He responded to their silence on the background of his adoption with his own silence.

My mother had 8 kids. She raised NONE of us! Pawned my oldest sister off on my grandmother and pawned me off on my father - who also didn't raise me. The other six were placed for adoption, all younger than me and my sister. We all have different fathers. My six siblings were all adopted by different families as well. She is a horrible, HORRIBLE woman! I have managed to find four of my six siblings so far. Two happy reunions, the other two are indifferent. I am still searching for the missing two. I live vicariously through this show and the happy endings.

JessieA In a way you affirm something soft and emotional that is missing in technology culture - but recognize your loss and the importance of things that are not valued in Western culture right now , or in the sociology programs of PhD culture. Feeling. Needing. There is something more about being humans than is stated in curriculum or news presenters and manipulation.

I am so sad for you Jessie . I am happy that you found so many of your brothers and sisters. My son passed away from complications from Cystic Fibrosis. And it has been to hard on my daughter, his big sister, who babied him . And of course my husband and I are sad so much of the time . I wish you had a good childhood sweet girl. Keep praying for peace in your life. And I pray someday you will experience the wonderful love a normal person has for their babies and children. I had an okay childhood, but by the grace of God my husband and I were good parents. And I got pregnant before marriage at seventeen, I had graduated from high school. And the minute my daughter was born it was amazing the love we had for her ! Now we have been married for forty six years ! Yeah, I am OLD . Blessings to you from California. 💐 💝
