Hi Sharmon, What a lovely morning at the beach! The sea and sky flowing into each other, lots of sun, piles of shells..... this really is like a little piece of heaven. Did you see at 11.38 that you missed a spiney jewelbox? Today I bought a duvet, printed on it is an image of the sea and beach with two FFC's and two crown conchs on it. So now, I can sleep under a piece of Florida beach. 😍 It totally fits with my bedroom that's designed in a beach style. Wishing you have a wonderful week! Thank you so much for sharing all your beach walks with us! Big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤️, Ilona

Oh Illona - thank you so much for sending me a little gift! 🙏🏼 I did see that spiny jewel box and I'm thinking I should have grabbed it 😅 It was so beautiful with the sun coming up and the sky and water blending together. And your duvet sounds perfect! It's ironic that the shells on it are ones you could find in FL and you can ID them - I love that! Thank you for choosing to spend some of your time with me at the beach and another BIG thank you for the gift! ❤️

Thank you for the beautiful beach ave walk . I live on east coast of FL so we do not have these beautiful shells. We go to Naples and Marco island every year for vacation. I love the west coast , the pace is much slower and the people are much more friendly. I eventually will move over for retirement. We love to collect shells and walk the pristine beaches. We are truly blessed here is south Florida. I’ve been in FL 40 years never been to sanibel . I must take a trip over…

I've only been here 2-1/2 years so I'm still in awe of everything beach related. And learning about all the treasures I find has also been really fun. It's been lightning and thundering for a few hours now and like you said - hopefully it can help kick up a few goodies. And I remember that Shell Island trip like it was yesterday. I would like someone to tell me why the beaches are so calm almost all of the time.? It makes it look more like a lake than ocean. Our Perth beaches are rarely ever like that, infact it’s hardly ever without waves and usually quite rough or small to medium surfing 🏄♀️ waves. You just couldn’t skin the waters edge and be able to see the bottom, it would be stirred up sand and the pull of the water can make you unsteady just standing knee or so deep. Oh btw, that lil pale pastel pink scallop with matching pastel pink barnacle was ever so sweet. Really a pretty lil one. Peeps out there explain the reasons for calm n rougher waters around the globe…thanks n luv to all the watchers and you Sharmon n Hubby… from , Lisa…Perth West Australia 💙🐚🙏🏻
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
Beach friend from down under! We live on the Gulf of Mexico, so it's not like living on the "ocean." The gulf waters are much more calm and we rarely get those big waves like Florida can get on the East Coast where the Atlantic is. The water is much more calm because we're protected from the ocean currents by the land masses surrounding us. On this particular day it was crazy calm - almost like a lake and not the gulf of mexico. I know I refer to it as the ocean, but technically it's not. Can you do a video on how to shell for people who don't get to the beach often? It's one thing to be able to do it frequently but if you can do a vacationers guide to shelling maybe? Like what to look for and why you ignore some shells over others etc. When I was at Sanibel I ended up getting frustrated and just giving up. Because all I found were the bleached out white shells that made up most of those piles.

It can be overwhelming when there are so many shells and not knowing what the "good" ones are. I had the same experience when I started shelling, but I was interested in all the shells I found so I never got frustrated. I've given tips and tricks before but I'll try to keep in mind that there are all different types of shellers watching. Thank you!

Very nice finds, I might try shelling after a storm too. Those Lightning Whelks are very beautiful I hope I find some here in philippines. But I don't think they live in the beaches here. Anyways thank you for another amazing vid. Looking forward to the next one.

I would LOVE to go shelling in the Philippines! And those lightning whelks really are beautiful shells and so special that they open on the left instead of the right. Thanks so much for watching!

So beautiful! So jealous I live in Oregon so we don’t get anything like that here! My in laws are in Florida but the opposite side to where you are! What do you do with the shells? I am new to your channel?
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
Welcome beach friend! I'm glad you found my channel too! As far as what I do with my shells, mostly I keep them in glass jars, vases and lanterns. I showed my collection in a past video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5fcYZ2iZdigpqc Then, I put some shells to the side to sell and others to do projects with. I've managed to complete 2 projects thus far. A shell mirror: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5eYhImjbdJopJo And a shell photo frame: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmq4eqmnobStna8 I have lots of ideas I just need to find more time!

I was just kinda wondering where the birds are? I didn't think about it till you started beach time. Love watching you shelling, but hopefully someday in the near future, I'll be shelling at the same Beaches and will be able to say Hi in person ☺️⛱️🏖️🐚🦪🦀

It wasn't a post-storm buffet for the birds this time but all storms are different and at least there was a nice variety of goodies to choose from! And you'll get to know these beaches well. They're all a little different and they're all awesome!

Good advice about the stingray shuffle. Got nailed by one last September in North Carolina 😩

Doh! Well that must have been unpleasant. I got "spiked" by an urchin when I was in Jamaica and that was zero fun as well.

I found out those barnacles are called acorn barnacles 😊 one day ill hopefully be able to move down there! Sanibel was a childhood vacation and my happy place
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
The barnacles are so weird! They actually "glue" their heads to something and build their little "volcanos" and then use their legs to filter feed. I hope you do get to move here one day - it's amazing living here!

@@SWFBeachLife lol yes they are very strange! They even attach themselves to sea turtles 🐢 which can be so sad to see they can literally take over their shells and heads! My dream if I can ever afford it would be to buy and rent out a condo or cottage on Sanibel when not in use by myself and than retire there… pipe dreams lol 😆

@@StacysSoCalledLife Lots and lots of people think like you and have vacation homes down here. Typically we get quite crowded in the winter when people are looking to escape the cold up North!

@@SWFBeachLife lol yeah my family was 1 of those ppl for sure in the 90s lol Sanibel and Captiva were not as well known back than! I live near Disney World and used to live in Vegas so im used to crazy tourists lol

@@StacysSoCalledLife I got married by Elvis in Vegas! It will always hold a special place in my heart. I always thought when we moved I would end up near Orlando (huge Disney fans) but the beach called us and we ended up down here in SWFL. My first trip to Sanibel was a bust, but I’ve since learned the ways of the beach 😀

I enjoy watching your videos. The millions of small white shells-do they live on rocks in the ocean or are they on the ocean floor?
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
Those creatures just live on the ocean floor. And there must be bunches of them because those arks and clam shells are almost always on the beach!

Why are there so many more shells at Sanibel compared to say Lovers Key or Fort Meyers Beach?
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
Typically all the beaches are kind of the same as far as how many and what type of shells you can find. Sanibel is positioned a little more east-west than the other beaches, so it's a little bit better at catching the shells most of the time and since there was a storm I chose Sanibel to go visit. I have also gone to FMB after storms and it was pretty fantastic as well. It's a guessing game but on this day I think I chose wisely!

Is it ok to take home those sea shells in piles that have washed up on beach from storms?
@elaineberger8792 жыл бұрын
As long as they do not have live critters.
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
Yes, down here in Lee county you can take empty shells (no hermit crabs or living creatures) from the beach. I've seen people carrying around 5-gallon buckets! 😅
