Slade are from Wolverhampton, which is Birmingham's neighbour, and were good friends with Ozzy and Black Sabbath. Their most notable tracks include 'Cum on Feel the Noize', 'Far, Far Away', 'Mama Weer All Crazee Now', 'Merry Xmas Everybody', 'Cuz I Luv You', my personal favourite 'Im For A Penny', and so many more.

Not just early rock but Glam Rock. Noddy Holder, the lead singer, is a British institution. Slade have a Christmas song (Merry Xmas Everybody) that I can't believe you've not reacted to, it's played to death over here in the UK during the festive period, but it's a classic!!! I think the other song you refer to that I'm sure has still be mentioned it's Cum On Feel The Noise, I definitely want to see you react to this, it's another song most people of a certain age, if not everybody, will have heard at some time. As for Slade, they are from Wolverhampton (close to Birmingham, England's second city and the former industrial powerhouse of the country). Big in the 70s, and had a revival when they stood in for Ozzy Osbourne, another Brummie (resident of Birmingham), at the Reading Festival in 1980, when he pulled out at the last minute. Love a bit of Glam Rock from time to time, other artists from genre T-Rex, Mud, and Wizard amongst others.

Slade were massive in Australia in the early 70's. They had multiple albums and singles in our charts simultaneously. They also had some hit songs in the 80's as well. "Gudby T'Jane" was the 3rd single I bought with my pocket money, I still own it and cherish it. Don Powell's opening Drumming is still one of the most impressive intros to a song that I've heard. The reason that Don is sitting in that type of chair is to give him the physical support he needed after his near fatal car accident. Slade and Status Quo on the same bill in the 70's was mind blowing for me as a young Australian teenager.

Oh yes. With Jim Lea (the bassist) showing his chops on lead violin. When people in Britain saw that on Top of the Pops, most assumed he was miming over the work of a session musician. In fact, he had been a classical violinist since childhood, and rock fiddle licks were easy meat for him. A highly talented musician and songwriter who wasn't fully appreciated in Britain, let alone the States.

Great to see you discover Slade. From Wolverhampton in England, Slade had multiple no.1 hit singles in the UK, and also in Australia, where I live. I was 12 or 13 when I first heard them (in '72 or '73), and I was immediately entranced by singer Noddy Holder's voice. A song suggestion: "Get down and get with it" - which is old fashioned rock n' roll. Then perhaps later follow with "Cum on feel the noize" and "Mama we're all crazee now".

Slade were an awesome band! One of my faves, growing up, the other main band being T.Rex. They hail from Wolverhampton in the UK. They were managed by Chas Chandler, bassist from the 60's band The Animals. He also managed Jimi Hendrix. The lead singer is Noddy Holder. The crazee glam boy (Super Yob) is Dave Hill. Jimmy Lea on bass was classically trained. And then you have Don Powell on drums. Other great songs to check out include Coz I Luv You, Mama Weer all Crazee Now, Look Wot You Dun, Take Me Bak 'Ome, Get Down and Get With It, Cum on Feel the Noize, etc. (Too many to mention!) Their biggest hit is probably Merry Xmas Everybody, which, you'll notice, has no deliberate spelling errors. 😉

Slade rose to fame at the beginning of '70s once they had got Chass Chandler (who had played bass in The Animals in '60s) as a manager. Compared to other main glam rock bands of the era - T. Rex and The Sweet - Slade's fan base was more masculine. A typical Slade fan was a young working class male who's main interests were girls, beer and football (the European kind, of course). My own favorite Slade hit is Coz I Luv You, which has Jim Lea (arguably the musically most talented member of the band) playing violin. Other notable Slade hits from their most successful period include Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Cum On Fell The Noize, and Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me.

Noddy!! One of the best vocalists in rock, hands down. This is a bit tamer than some of their tracks, but in addition to other suggestions, "Get Down and Get With It" is a must for sure. Their live album "Slade Alive" is still one of my favorites of all time. They get slotted as a 'glam rock' band because of some of the costumes and make-up, but they're really just a good time blues bar band, much like T. Rex was, really. SLADE!!!! Yes! My favorite song by them! Apart from the obvious one that Quiet Riot made a hit with in the U.S., such a great catalogue with "Run Runaway", "Take Me Back 'Ome", "How Does It Feel", "Get Down Get With It", "Radio Wall of Sound", "Coz I Luv You", "When I'm Dancin' I Ain't Fightin'", "Everyday", and "Merry Xmas Everybody"! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

In the early 70's it was one of the greatest Glam rock Bands in Europe, and still every year round Christmas, radio or tv played their Christmas Hit "Merry Xmas Everybody", you still heared it everywere. They had more Nr. 1 hits. "Cum On Feel the Noize" "Mama we're all Crazy Now" "My Oh My" were some of their hits, Lead singer is Noddy Holder [with the raspy voice]. 👍👍👍🤘

They were MASSIVE in the early seventies. From Wolverhamton, they had 17 consecutive top 20 hits and 6 number ones on the UK Singles Chart. They also had one of the most popular christmas songs ever. Noddy Holder, the lead singer, and Bassist Jim Lea, who jointly wrote the song, still 50 years later, share approximately £500,000 a year in royalties from ''Merry Xmas Everybody'' because it's played on the radio so much.

I can't believe you've reacted to this! It was my first favourite band as a kid; I was just the right age. It's an early Glam Rock classic. Slade were an ex-skinhead band from the same place [Birmingham and the Black Country] and time [late 60's and 70's] as Heavy Rock pioneers Black Sabbath and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, to name some of the most influential musicians of all time. From thence came the occult influences that led into post-punk Goth music and Heavy Metal. Glam Rock greatly influenced your US 80's 'Hair Rock'. As for Slade I'd recommend 'Look Wot You Dun' [1972] and 'Coz I Luv You' [1970]. For more Glam Rock I suggest Sweet: 'Ballroom Blitz' and Wizzard: 'Ball Park Incident' to begin with [You''ll want the videos too. Glam Rock was very shocking at the time to old fogies, haha.

In our house Christmas isn't Christmas until you hear Slade's 'Merry Xmas Everybody' on the radio - check out their definitive Top of the Pops video, cut together from a couple of performances (of course they're miming, that's how the show was back then), and helped that they'd had a few beers before going on, it's a funny watch. Also note: Noddy used to refer to the song as his "pension scheme" as the royalties from its play every Christmas made him (as co-writer along with bassist Jim Lea) hugely wealthy. It's estimated it still brings in £500,000 in royalties per year.

Saw Slade only once but it was unforgettable. They played the Schaeffer Festival in NYs Central Park in blazing 90+ heat. Got the crowd absolutely crazy and by end of show the crowd had stomped the rows of metal foldup chairs flat in about 3/4 of the orchestra!! In the middle of the show people in the audience were throwing crushed ice and any water they could get on fellow viewers to help cool people off and the security grabbed 1 guy and tried to drag him out and Noddy Holder stopped in mid song and demanded they release him or they'd walk off stage(which might have caused a riot-no kidding). As a result they removed Schaeffer as a sponsor (booze didn't help things lol) and banned hard rock groups for 2 years and returned as the Dr. Pepper Festival. The Slade Alive album is one of rocks great bangers. On the live version of Get Down, Get With It you will get a rough idea what it was like to be among the crowd. You've been warned lol.

Slade were absolutely massive in Britain. A lot of people don't even realise how big they were. They were the band that held The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album off from getting the number 1 spot. They were also the band that had spots 1 & 2 in the album charts and also had 3 singles in the top 10, all at the same time. A really big, nowadays underrated band. Over their time they had 17 top 20 hits and 6 number 1 hits!

Thank you so much for reacting to Slade. Their lead singer, Noddy Holder, imo has the best rock voice. His pure voice is pretty awesome too. I was lucky enough to see them live in the 70s and they were so so good. It's an experience I'll never forget, especially as I fell down a flight of stairs that led to the toilets. Luckily not badly hurt. I was young so I kinda bounced.😅

Glad you love them, i think they deserve much more recognition than they get these days. I recommend their song “radio: wall of sound” (less well known but brilliant and my favourite) and the commonly known ones are “merry christmas eveybody”, “run run away”, “we’re all krazee now”, “cmon feel the noize”….and “cuz i luv you” and “how does it feel” are worth checking out too.

Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley saw Slade back when they were still plying their trade as a New York bar band called Wicked Lester. Impressed by the big chorus, foot stomping, sing-a-long Rock n Roll that was Slade's trademark they decided that was the direction to go in - but very American. A prototype Cheap Trick saw Slade live & bassist Tom Petersson remarked that they had used "every cheap trick in the book" during their set. Overlooked & dismissed as a joke band by people who didn't recognise the talented musicians behind the outlandish clothes - it's stood the test of time & their critics have been proved wrong. & dare I say it aren't fit to lick the Dog sh*t from their Platform Boots.

The Slade are from England, the part of England called Wolverhampton and they started in 1966, but were more prominent in the 70s of the Glam Rock era. They achieved 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number one's on the uk charts. The lead singer he is known as Noddy Holder, but his real name is Neville John Holder. Other songs of theirs you should also react to are, Come feel the noise, Mama we're all crazy now, Keep on Rocking.
