This video series was so helpful! I just replaced the trans in my 2014 Fusion hybrid with a used trans from a c-max. It worked like a charm. It was very tough, especially lining up the trans and getting it to slide in correctly, but with patience, I got it! Thank you so much for your hard work doing this video.

Nice video. Ford is in the process of getting a trans and installing in my car. Its on back order. I appreciate seeing what it takes to complete this job and also what the failure mode was. Ford says it fixed this problem in cars manufactured after August 2015. I wonder what they changed.

just checked out a 2013 fushion hybrid non plug in. and it makes a horrible screaching sound just when the engine turns on. Coming from the transmission clearly. I told her without knowing these cars it sounds like a bearing has gone bad inside the trans. What is the chance that if that sound is already happening (pretty freaking loud) that there is damage to her case? Could it be she could get lucky or is the trans likely just needing a new or used trans (not just replacing the roller bearings and sending it?
@NiXFiX Жыл бұрын
Without hearing or seeing it, I bet the chances of saving it are slim. Even if the bearing race is repairable, there will be metal bits in the fluid that have made their way to other bearings and components. Flushing that all out would be a monumental task.

You mentioned that the Energi had a transmission cooler pump with a line going to the rear of the transmission. Would there still be a line there for other models or a plug? Great Video!!
@NiXFiX10 ай бұрын
Testing the limits of my memory. It's not a coolant pump, it's actually a fluid pump to keep the fluid moving in the transmission when the energi is in full electric mode. The non plug in hybrid cars don't have it because (I think) their ICE runs all of the time (thus keeping the fluid pumping).
@norae.579711 ай бұрын
I do appreciate the video, but the 12V battery runs the 12V accessories, it does not start the internal combusion engine, when changing the transmission you might have notices there is no 12V starter. The high voltage electric motor acts as a starter for the ford hybrids.

Hello b or, I'm about to buy a 2013 ford c-max, with 130,000 miles on it, and the price is $5,000. The car dealer told me the car was noisy and I found out it was because the transmission bearing lock was broken. Can you tell me how to fix this problem? Or where to find parts?

Stretching my memory on this one, but I believe the bearing design on some of the gears had too tight of a tolerance. Roller bearings would go bad.

Hey, a good friend of mine who I am trying to help out, she has a 2017 Ford fusion hybrid with a CVT trans. The car has about $230,000 mi on it, but it's in pretty good shape... The car runs and drives great. It does need jump-started if you want to drive it someplace,... But it's making a transmission associated noise, racket, under the hood, a lot of times when you let off the gas, sometimes when you're just idling. Sometimes when you are starting to accelerate. I changed the fluid in it today for her and it didn't fix anything. She owes a substantial amount of money against it, are you interested in buying this car?.. I don't think she can afford to fix it,... She was told by somebody, just one mechanic, that it has something to do with the electrical motor. But I'm not sure if we can believe them, and we're going to maybe get a second opinion,

Impressive! ...a local dealer is selling one for $5k with a "bad trans". I thought they were direct drives from the electric motor -- not CVT ...guess not.
@NiXFiX Жыл бұрын
They're not a traditional CVT with a belt. Two electric motors connected together. One motor is used as a generator, the other as the drive motor. When the engine runs, it is only driving the generator. It's a lot like how a diesel electric train locomotive works.

Minor complaint==need to specify if you are talking about the thread size or the nut/bolt size. Sorry! great job. I would not do personally!
@NiXFiX Жыл бұрын
When I say 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, etc. I (and all mechanics/anyone making a video like this) are talking socket/wrench size required to remove or install a nut/bolt. Nobody cares about thread size unless you have to chase the threads/tap a hole. People following these videos care about what socket/wrench size they need to grab out of their tool box to remove or install a bolt. Bold move to complain about a FREE video that I spent hours making. Thank you for watching though! 😀Start wrenching. You can do it!

I did this job, the Ford reman transmission lasted 16, 000 miles and started making bearing noise again. I wish I had been able to trade it instead of going through all of this. This transmission is trash, they need to take lessons from Toyota.
@ryry7886 Жыл бұрын
The transmission design is genius for the most part. Light years ahead of the adjusting pulley designs. Having no gears and no clutches and no bands/belts should make these things last forever. The fact that they cant figure out how to keep the bearings lubed up is pretty ridiculous though. If they figure that out these trannies would last 300-400k miles, maybe 500k. Maybe if someone designed sealed aftermarket bearing or cover that had better fluid ports these would be bulletproof.

Consumer Protection Bureau should sue Ford for this. They knew about this in 2014/15 if I'm correct. Ford chose to make a software change which prolonged the failures but, didn't fix it. A good transmission should never fail in a car with normal operation and care. That should be the last thing to fail in a car. Ford is at fault 100%. 10% failure rate is insane.
