I'm not one to defend MS, but MS is doing things a large publisher does (close studios for underperforming games or brands, consolidate talent, cut expenses). The consumer side is actually pretty solid for Xbox, it's a real shame the zeitgeist has elevated the Playstation. Sony is doing things from a position of "we are so far and away the consumers choice, that we don't have to try" arrogance. Remember, they doubled PSN sub cost, and it didn't really hurt their numbers. Game Pass says they may raise prices a couple of dollars and everyone is freaking out.

Google has money but they have so many services that they release but abandon. Like how many messaging services alone has Google tried? Also Apple’s M chips are crazy powerful. It would be really interesting if they tried entering gaming but you’re right it’s a hard industry. They also tried once in the 90s but they were a very different company. They got into streaming very recently and their shows are incredible. It’s a small catalog but really high quality. I just wish there was more competition.

I pre-ordered GoT after waiting for it for 4 years, and just had it forcefully refunded because I live in a country in the Balkans. Sony is completely alienating people in the affected regions. But especially the Balkans and Baltics, both of which have a strong gaming presence. The dumbest part is that we've been able to create a PSN account for years. I've had one since 2018. So I would have no trouble connecting it to GoT. It's really just the region locking and forced refunds that screwed us over.

It's being in an unsupported region that's completely delisted and blocked from both purchasing AND activating the game on Steam. Sony literally sells their consoles in my country. We have no choice but to create an account with a different region if we want to use them. This is something PS Support even TELLS people to do. That's not the fucking issue. The issue is that my country (Serbia) isn't officially in the list of countries you can choose when creating a PSN account. Which is why my country is in the list of restricted regions on Steam. Learn to read before being so confident in your ignorance.

Simple, they aren't one game but an entire storefront with hundreds of games which could be emulated on PC. It's unhealthy even for a PC to have one launcher, i.e. steam. There needs to be competition; just because Steam is a benevolent monopoly doesn't mean it has a good market environment. An exclusive on a PC launcher is not much of an issue compared to hardware exclusives.

They already have staff for most of the components needed. The key differences are between support staff and security. The PS5 is a walled garden running on a customized Linux OS. I played Ghost of tsushima. I bought a ps4 just to play it. I sold my ps4 and decided i would game on PC rather than console from now on. I was wanting to purchase the game. I was happy. I want to play it but i will NEVER get a psn account nor will i pay their stupid fee to play multillayer. That thing is why i stop playing console. I am not a cattle to he gouged. They have really bad cistomer service, popr security, and they gatekeep and prevent you from enjoying your things. I will give you an example: I played Path of Exile on ps4. I linked my account to GGG. I moved from ps4 to pc. GGG would not let me access the mtx i bought while playing on ps4. I didn't have access to them. Reason? Sony put it in the contract. So Sony idea of business is:"If i let this client enjoy his toys on the platform of his choice, he will bot comeback." So they make aure i can never go play on anyother platform. Thats controlling. I dont even have a word for it. Its discusting. If you are so afraid and insecure and evil, i don't want to do business with you. Fuck Sony. And now that i have left them, they comeback charging in with that(buy Sony but make an account or dont play)? Yeah fuck them. I play on a PC master race computer. I will pirate that game. Done.

I'm fine with this. Helldivers 2 required PSN for 100% of the game, made it optional at launch and didn't relay it well enough that it would be required, and they sold the game to 180 regions where they couldn't comply with TOS. This, might be blocked in those 180 regions like helldiver's 2 still is, but it only requires it for online... I didn't even know Ghost of tsutsu had an online feature. As long as there's a warning in-game, I'm perfectly fine with it. Epic and steam both have good refund policies so if you go and buy the game and then find out you need PSN for the online portion you can refund.

I've always loved Sony, especially when compared to EA or Microsoft, but this is honestly making me reconsider a bit. This restriction doesn't apply to me as I already have a PSN account, but I can definitely feel the pain of so many people waiting for this game to come on PC and they can't play it now at all. I don't even get requiring the PSN account for the legends mode. There's already games on PC that have crossplay with consoles and don't require a PSN account on PC. It's not mandatory in any way to achieve cross play. And making a PSN account doesn't even make Sony any money so what does this restriction even achieve for them? It just seems like a horrible business decision. They can only lose on potential money with this.

I game mostly on PC, but have always had all the consoles. This incessant whining about everything these companies do needs to stop. We complain about studios closing but then criticize every single change companies want to implement. We don’t want prices to go up but whine about micro transactions. “Hey let’s add ads to games,” something that objectively helps studios; more whining. If PS games end up on Xbox the sky would fall…It’s ridiculous. In my experience, linking accounts has never been a negative thing. As an Ubisoft+ subscriber I have been able to transfer my entire gameplay/progress to the Steam version of a game. Stop with the childish whining; these are video games.

They will most likely ask you for it right at the start no matter what the requirement is. My understanding is that the login is NOT required for solo play. It has been said multiple times in multiple places now, but I agree it MUST be a choice. I don't think they are going to do it for pure single player because of the excuse they are using. They are claiming that they cannot protect the Sony players from griefing and hostile behavior without the sign in because that is how they investigate and control bad behavior.

People keep asking the questions "Does Sony hate money? Why are they doing this bad business decision!?" Maybe I am wrong, but I feel like the money Sony will make selling thousands (or millions) of new account informations to data brokers will make them much more money in the long run than whatever they lose in sales or community goodwill. And Sony themself take a cut of 30% for any third party game releases on PlayStation, and even more to release an update or hotfix on PlayStation the Publisher / Developer needs to pay a fee of ~15.000$ per update, and this will charged for any update. On PC / Steam you can release 5 hotfixes a day if needed but on console (and yes XBox take this too) you can get broke if you do so. That is one of the reasons Crossplay is more difficult than you may imagine, and for example Palworld get updated on PC first, cause they release the update wait for the community feedback if the update broke any mechanic or bring new problems, if yes they fix them and just if they have a stable version they release a combined update for the console. Sonys advantage is they already have the PSN infrastructure they just need to bring it to PC (cause build this infrastructure is very expansive, thats the reason why DIsney + is still not profitable). But the question is if they will sell enough on their own launcher, cause if the sales get down more than 30% they lose money (and maybe even before cause although they have the PSN the PC launcher will cost money to develop and to update + they need more service employees). We know not selling on Steam have a huge impact on sale numbers, thats the reason why Epic store is still not profitable and UBIscrap bring their games on Steam again after some time. (Like EA does before and even Blizzard started to bring some games to Steam). So even if they make an own PC Launcher, I think the sales will get down so much they come back to Steam after a few years. I personal will not buy any game on a Sony Launcher, like I've never spent a cent on Epic or EA Origin or UPlay.

Nah people hate Sony for no reason because 99% of other companies require an account. Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and many others require their own accounts. From a consumer perspective you may feel slighted but from a business standpoint it makes perfect sense. You’re able to get more sales while still somewhat holding on to the integrity of the exclusive. Think about it, is it their are a lot of games where an account is needed to even start a game , this is no different. The main problem is still not related to whether you have to buy PSN or not, but the fact that it is not available in nearly 200 countries is the problem, of course you can use a VPN to set up a PSN account but it violates the terms of the PSN account. sony and got banned, there are many people saying that they have been doing this for many years and have never been banned by sony but that is what sony requested, who knows that one day they will do something like this from called sony king until he was called sony fool

Yeah I was going to preorder but I can't get behind these things. We won this war a long time ago against Games for Windows Live, when Microsoft tried to do the same thing, ",oh it's just a free account you sign up for what's the big deal?" and then slowly overtime they added more nested DRM software associated with it, it pulled your data and gave it to every third party imaginable, it tanked performance of the games it was tied to, it made modding games damn near impossible. It was just a mess.

I feel Sony is just giving it back to those obnoxious people who shouted "well if Sony wants to make PSN Account mandatory, they shouldn't sell their game on countries that don't have PSN!" - even though you can freely make PSN account from any other supported countries. - Sony never banned anyone for doing so even though they stated otherwise in ToS (which i think is put there just to adhere to law/regulations) - even though Sony and Arrowhead had notified users from the start that PSN acc will be required in the future (why the delay? probably because Sony gave some leeway for Arrowhead as they are a small studio and fairly new to pc.) You could say Sony is a company that treats their customers fairly. They treat you fairly, so they expect that you'll treat them fairly too in return. But if you treat them back unfairly* instead, they'll teach you a lesson like this one, lol. *what do i mean by unfairly? review-bombing the game for something that have nothing to do with the actual game itself and which they have notified users before they decide to buy the game. As expected by a Japanese company, even more so now their new PS's CEO is Japanese, just like the Japanese people, first they'll treat you nicely or respectfully, and naturally expects the same treatment in return, but if rude and unfairness is what they get in return, then it's only fair the same thing is returned back as a lesson.

The only thing that got me to make and sign in with a PS account was with Forbidden West where they actually gave you in game stuff for doing it. For stuff like Helldivers where there is no benefit or GoT where all I'm losing is being able to play a multiplayer component I had no idea existed and have no interest in, I see no reason to log in with it. Even with Horizon it was a waste of time since I didn't end up using the outfit, and the story and quests are so bland in the game I only played about 12 hours and haven't touched it since.

Honestly it doesn't surprise me in the least that this game requires a PSN account as it is the first PS port for PC to have a PS overlay and PSN trophy integration. Piracy is almost always a service issue and not a pricing issue - gaben newell. If sucker punch nor sony are going to make money off those people who have the game delisted in those select countries why would piracy in this case not be justifed other than "its bad or illegal"? Ive seen people saying you're a broke boy if you pirate which is such a cop out answer and isnt even relevant in this situation. Even still, studies have shown that pirates tend to be the biggest fans and biggest buyers of legal content.

I think it´s crazy that the Baltic States (Estonia, Lithuania & Latvia) are not able to set up a PSN-Account while they are Memberstates of the European Union 🤯 Ok, the whole Situation is crazy for all the other Countries aswell, don´t get me wrong. But the EU can be pretty stingy with Customer Protection when they get wind of a Situation. It may take some time, but they are looking into a lot of stuff at the Moment (Apple, Google, Big Tech so to say).

By the fact of having a console store, Sony are already running most of the infrastructure they need for their own launcher. They have the servers, databases, security etc. Putting a PC front end together and adding PC builds will not cost that much extra but will give them extra profits.

The problem with Helldivers was that they sprung it at the last minute and it fucked over people in countries where PSN was not available because they were suddenly going to be unable to play the game they already bought. While yes creating and maintaining a launcher is hard/difficult/expensive.. they already have it.. PSN itself. They've been doing that and maintaining that globally for the past what 15 years? Bethesda never had one so it failed, Rockstar never had one so it failed, EA never had one so it failed, none of them managed platforms, they published games. Can you give an example of console players getting pushed around? I hear that from KZbinrs, but don't know what they mean. Is it about us having to create a PSN account? I don't play on PC as I have a Mac, but did sign up for Steam. It kind of felt like the same thing when having a create an account. I don't recall being forced into anything being a console gamer. I remember when they introduced ads on PS4 in the menu. I thought that was kind of weird, but found out you can turn it off in the settings. There's preferences you can change also either to private, friends only or everyone. You can turn off notifications too. I'm just not sure what you mean by getting pushed around. I'm like you. I have a PSN account, so if I wanted to play on PC. It's no big deal. Sony did mention that they are still trying to learn what's best for PC gamers. I think you just have to incentivise them. What if for Helldivers 2, there was an exclusive gun or outfit that was exclusive to PSN accountholders. Would a Killzone or Resistance outfit convince anyone to opt in? What if they get partners like Star Wars or Star Ship Troopers. I'm sure that can get some takers. Once you create an account, it won't be an issue when they release another game that requires it. What if they finally bring Bloodborne to PC. There's an online component to that game. If that game came to PC, will players opt in for the PSN account? PC revenue is bonus money for them. If players rebel over their business practices, they can just take their ball and go home. I don't think they want to do that though. They are committed to releasing PC games and I think players want to play their games. They just don't like Sony which is the problem.
