The last year I’ve ordered the most from Uniqlo and Muiji. Just order this beige and white striped knit from Muiji and it’s beautiful. Agree the Tshirts from Uniqlo are the best with a structured neck - which won’t become wavy / stretched

I agree to not overspend on cotton t-shirts. But I highly recommend Reformation's Julia organic cotton tank. It blows all of my other tanks combined out of the water. Worth every penny.

Totally agree with everything you said. I spend more on wool/Cashmere, and spend less on my basics. Comfortable footwear is important so I will spend more there, but it isn't always necessary especially for summer. I wait for the sales.

I love your videos and have learned so much from them since I got into personal style… but I’m 43 and, believe me, by a certain age, a boring bag stands out when it’s good quality. I’ve been carrying a dark navy leather crossbody from Atelier Auguste (mini monceau) for the past year and it’s totally plain… but I haven’t seen anyone carrying a nicer bag! Most women my age are carrying faux-leather black bags with too much hardware, that are too big and yet still filled to bursting. I don’t mean to criticize them, I’m making the point that a high quality, boring bag in a classic shape, with a size that fits your frame, still stands out :)

I work in a shop where we sell a lot of handbags £18 - £25, mostly black and they don't last. People replace them every six months if they can afford to for something almost identical which they then over stuff. It's kind of funny because for the first three months they can't find anything in it, then it starts looking rough, then falling apart, then new bag that they can't find anything in. It's the same with purses. How long do good handbags last?
@ila90638 ай бұрын
@@r.brooks5287my mum had a “good handbag” that lasted her 6 years of regular wear after which my gran took it and has been carrying it ever since. The bag is of a nice quality leather with beautiful double stitching. Not too heavy but still very solid. It’s been 16 years now.

Last point really hit home. I have definitely wasted money on pieces with a beautiful design but the wrong colour. You’re right. It’s money down the drain. They indeed never get worn. This is a lesson I feel I’m just starting to learn.

Helen, your videos are so informative! I am loving the U shirt and the wide leg jeans from Uniqlo. I’ve tried so many of the latter and finally found one I really like. It can be altered for free though I like 30” on me. The shirt is very sturdy as well.

Ugh plain Tshirts which are form fitting and have a V neckline and made from natural materials are so hard to find. Country Road Aus has the only good ones I’ve found and they’re $50 each.
@ila90638 ай бұрын
I get a lot of my basics from CR. They are $50 for a t-shirt but I swear those t-shirts are indestructible. I wear them for years, wash them after a couple wears, and they still look so good. Have one that is 4 years old and still going strong.

I also hate beige as someone who is East Asian descent. I think it really washes you out especially if you are pale. Jade green, white, sapphire blue would look so much better. Your natural colouring is high contrast so your look must follow x

Recommending changing your background area, as the busy book stand and wall print compete with you when you’re in front of them. A simple neutral background would help showcase your wonderful styling.

So much good advice! Btw I got the Uniqlo wide leg denim pants after you plugged them in a recent video and they really do look stunning! Perfect drape and weight. The online model pics make them look dreadful somehow 😅 also what size are you wearing in the sezane eponine shirt? Did you size down like they suggest?

There are a lot of items in those “wardrobe essentials” lists that I don’t even wear, like tshirts and jeans. Or black separates, I have a few, but I limit this “color” because it doesn’t look good on me.

Hello Helen. Been watching your videos and they're very informative. Thanks a bunch and I like your tips also. One question though, have you had a real vintage 100% cotton denim?? Esp the levis? Bec I find the quality of those, way too good compared to any 100% cotton denim or jeans nowadays, even the ones at Uniqlo or everlane.

You know...if your 'awful beige' knit is organic fibre - it's very possible to simply dye it ? ...either DIY or see if there's a prof service out there. I think it'd be totally worth it for the lovely cardi, so unusual.

I don’t know how, but the few wool items I have all get holes in them after a season of wear. I think partly it’s me being rough on my clothes, maybe it’s the buckle on my handbag… I have to learn to repair the holes by knitting back the stitches and stop further unraveling
@lookingatdaisies99019 ай бұрын
Moths? moths got to mine, that's where the holes in mine came from. They even got to tencel fibre T-Shirt... I'm re thinking natural fibresnow that I realise nature enjoys natural fibres too 😭
@geniej23789 ай бұрын
@@lookingatdaisies9901 I've checked for any signs of moths but haven't seen any, which is why I'm thinking it's from wear. I know one wool top got a hole where I would tuck it into my jeans... since jeans have metal closures and fabric friction when you sit down/ stand up.

First of all, you are wearing clothes are "fashionable" but don't necessarily help you. High waisted pants make you look shorter because they interfere with the line of your torso. Pants that are cropped make you look shorter. They interfere with your ability to get line, which makes you look taller. Every time you wear pants above the ankle, you are shortening your height and making yourself look disproportionate. So you should wear pants that touch the top of your shoe. You complain about medium or shorter waisted pants, but they would make you look taller and give you more line. That is why I don't trust your advice on what to wear.
@jhieha4 ай бұрын
wait i don't think i understand this sentence "pants that are cropped make you look shorter. they interfere with your ability to get line, which makes you look taller" so which one is correct? crop or not?
