I have had my 9mm shield now for a month or so. I have shot 875 rounds through it, and it has not had one problem with it. As this is my first handgun I'm very impressed. I will be looking at more S&W M&P line of handguns. Thank you for your video's.

Hey Hickok. This vid, M&P Shield (Chpt 2), is one of your all time best. Great gun, selection of ammo, your narrative, your confident accuracy with this little guy (you were really on), the camera work, the sunny day on your range, all of it: just great. Just an All Star video all the way around.

The Shield has a really nice reset. The Kahr reset is fine, too, though it has a different sort of trigger and take-up until you get to the release of the striker. I like the Shield, but I still prefer the PM9 for pocket carry, as it's a bit smaller yet easy to shoot.

I have been using a Shield 9mm for deep concealed carry purposes for about 5 months now and i really do love the pistol so far. I have the no thumb safety model myself which was one of the requirments i had when buying the gun. I do not care for the stock M&P triggers at all myself, so i have the Apex duty trigger kit in mine and it has made a marked improvment for me personall. One thing i will point out is that I personally carry the flush mount magazine in the gun and the extended mag as my reload. This is because with my hand size and grip style, the plate on the bottom of the factory extended mag rubs the palm of my hand and when doing tactical reloads the magazine doesnt always drop free on its own. I have never had any issues with the flush mags not dropping free, so i carry that in the gun and then in the event i need to use it and reload under stress, I know the mag will always drop free allowing me to slam the next mag home and get back into battery as quickly as possible. Other than that slight hiccup, the pistol has performed flawless. Currently have ~700 rounds through mine, and my preferred carry load is a 124 +P Gold Dot load.

Excellent Review as always. I purchased a SW Plus recently. It's a newer version with one 10 rd. & one 13 rd. magazine. I haven't had any issues with the Plus. The shorter 3.1 in. barrel one has to grip the Plus a littler firmer. They are fun to operate. A very nice Trigger. R.

Yes, I have them on this one now. Wow, they look like something out of "Predator" when you open the package, but they fit like a dream, even covering that lower part of the rear grip that is so hard to cover.

I find it much easier to pull left with a thinner gun. They are great for carry, and this one shoots well, but a thin grip requires more focus for me to shoot well.

Hi, I always come to you first for your comments on firearms I'm considering. I bought a Shield 9mm in June. I've fired every type of ammo through it (except lead hand loads) without failure. The trigger IS great. I've only owned and shot revolvers, but I felt right at home with this right from the start. Thank you again for your great instruction.
@joedoole35278 жыл бұрын
Shield9 is a great pistol. I love my no external safety model more than my Glock 43 and I'm a big Glock fan. The .40 Shield is not as a great a shooter in my opinion and doesn't group nearly as well as the 9. I shoot mostly JHP from my Shield as it is my daily auxiliary/backup pistol so train with what I carry. HST 124gr is a very accurate load, as are the Hornady 124 TAP and XTP loads. I also handload 124 XTP and Speer 124 GDHP to "+P" velocities and they are accurate loads and very manageable. I've done some test firing with 115 and 147 weights and it functioned fine with all, but 124 offered the best grouping and POI for my personal wants/needs. In my larger 9's though, Glock 17/19, M&P9 VTAC, M9 etc I love the 147 loads, especially when running a can.

Glad to see you use the speed loader Hickok, on the first video on the Shield I thought you must have vice grips for fingers as getting the last couple of rounds in the mag can be pretty stiff! Conceal carry for over 40 years and I can say the Shield is my first hand gun that I carry Every day and I trust it, less than 1 inch wide, like carrying a wallet, forget that it's there, no discomfort. Better to have a 9mm on you than a 44 magnum back home in your safe.

That's interesting. I can see not liking the capacity or the feel of a gun this thin, or maybe just having a beef with S&W, but the trigger is one of the best features for ME. Like almost everybody, gunshops can have their own agendas, too. Generally, they are going to like whatever they have the most of to sell and things they can stock easily. Then there's the profit factor - which guns do they have the best margins on. Not to be negative, but it is just part of the reality of retail.

All these guns this thin are a bit of a challenge for me to shoot really well. The striker-fired trigger does help, though. Up close and personal, they are fine. I just can't reach out with them as well as I can with the fatter polymer guns or 1911s.
@ryand.38589 жыл бұрын
Having carried this gun for more than year now I trust it completely. I've done all the apex upgrades and put some 10-8 sights on it(that was a real challenge compared to some other guns I've done). I also did a stipple job and polished the feed ramp. These little guns are very comfortable for carry but require additional practice to shoot as well as full sized guns. Very impressed with your skills using this gun...

The Hogue Beavertail Grip Sleeve adds just enough thickness to the Shield to fill out the hand. Made out of rubber, it's fairly grippy and seems to dampen the recoil some as well.

I feel like a loader is deff necessary for my M&P Shield. it's harder for me to push the spring while loading and our loader takes care of that. I just got my second carry and it's a Glock 43. I love the light trigger pull, where the shield has a bit of a lag, which make me pull and shoot down and left. I was more accurate with my Glock 43. But I do love both of my guns! I carry at work, I use a belly band and it's very comfortable.

I love my 40 Shield. The recoil is a breeze to manage and I will always have the option to drop in the 9mm barrel if I want to save money at the range. The 9mm version does not have the option to convert. I asked the gun salesman about the mag drop problem and he said it has long since been fixed by s&w and that most of the cases reported turned out to be from accidentally hitting the mag release.

I thought I should get one before it was too late because of California's list of approved semi's are rumored to disappear 2016. This is my first handgun. I've had it out to the range and it's sweet. Got to say I thought I did pretty good for a first timer. Very addictive! Thanks for the long videos on this model. Oh yeah, almost forgot. I have yet to meet anybody that likes a safety on their pistol. I guess the videos of folks shooting themselves with glocks solidified my resolve to have that feature. Is that extra round in the chamber worth the risk carrying it 'hot' with no safety? Not for me. I'm too human. I noticed that it kicks more than my friend's full sized glock 40mm, which was very smooth. Loved the feel of that! But no safety. Darn lol

You can get the Shield (and the other M&P's) either with or without the thumb safety. I like the safety but I know a lot of people prefer no safety. It's good that Smith offers them with both options.
