Maya, Pea soup YUMMM. I dice a carrot some onion and a rasher of bacon, saute in butter till onion is getting clear add chicken stock, and yellow split peas soaked overnight simmer for 45 mins or so, add salt and black pepper to taste. I like to serve with black rye bread topped with grilled parmigiana. However the atmosphere in the boat will be quite Dickensian for a while afterwards. 😁😁😁 Cheers Eric

Heres my recipe for an all around spice from the restaurant. I call it magic spice. ( for magic carpet. Lol) 3scoops salt. 3 scoops black pepper. 3 scoops ground garlic. 2 scoops thyme. 2 scoops dry mustard. 2 scoops celery seed. 2scoops dill weed. 1 scoop crushed red pepper. A bigger scoop makes a bigger batch. Mix thoroughly and use to taste. Enjoy. Chef Scott Cortright. USA

I get so annoyed when people put a 👎 to a wonderful vlog like this :- I can only assume they have issues with envy and need to go out and get themselves a life !..either way their negativity isn’t welcome and they should keep it wrapped up inside their own unhappiness. I thought it was as usual very entertaining and as welcome as a summer breeze. X♥️😇👍👍👍

Based on the comments I read on subsequent videos and even here the crew of Magic Carpet, all two of them, are creating simply superb vignettes of your adventures and lifestyle. Don't ever change.

Perhaps one of the most moving cinematic moments I've experienced in your videos: around 9:36. I don't know why. Maybe it was the turn of the day, the exact pacing of the voice-over, the specific choice of words. I was moved almost to tears. The music. I had to find it so I had my phone recognize a snippet. "Aurelian" by Anders Schill Paulsen, S.A. Karl - I'm struck by how still the piece is and I'm struck by how sort of daring it was for you to weave that in with the montage of your footage at just that point. And how you inserted phrases of your voiceover between phrases in the music. The sequence begins with a question, an appeal to an extra-cinematic sensation Do you smell that? I smell it. Salt water…a little bit brine-y… And right there, the music creeps in, Karl’s slow wavering first notes and they lock into the shot you’ve placed, a slow pan left while the water slides by to the right. And with the next natural phrasing of them music, the cut to a sequence of three shots of a weathered steel fishing boat pushing by. In an instant as moment is created, the sentiment and the image. It’s good to appreciate how the music is so pretty and yet the fishing boat is not (outwardly.) I think that makes it especially good, though. And then in a lull in the musical phrasing: And so up ahead the channel is extremely well-marked, so it shouldn’t be a problem to follow that… I’m struck by how diligent you are to try to capture your concerns arising with conditions in the moment. Voice-over done after the fact never has the same immediacy or authenticity. And then slipping back into the warm bath of the music and water. An then as if you had swiveled in your chair to lean next to us, “Look at those pastel colors.” You are speaking right to us, the viewers. You break the fourth wall adressing us directly, …and I know you can’t actually smell it… And then cut to a map and a simple animated line: “…we decided then to actually go to the island of Texel…” And the most beautiful thing is the music is right there underneath it. So in less than a minute from a musical seascape to a request of the viewer to an in-the-moment change of plans, all while keeping the sentiment, the cinematic moment. And it almost felt like the simple decision was, well, inexplicably beautiful. “I din’t feel like visiting a city…” And this admission, a sort of negative emotion, came off as authentic and genuine. “…and we set our sites on Oudeschild…I’m not sure if I’m saying that right.” At times like these, your videos feel like very personal correspondences, not KZbin ‘content.’ How it must feel for you at times, to be subject and author of the art, the total immersion of sailing on a small boat, catching glimpses and snippits as you go, maybe visualizing your vulnerable figures in your mind's eye, other times forgetting the camera, maybe forgetting yourselves. There's so much 'self' in this project, eh. To make these is, alternating, a privilege, a burden, a curse, a crisis, catharsis, and a keepsake. Because, then, down the road, you are dragging clips onto a timeline and seeing there, your funny, imperfect, poignant selves, right there in the frame. And now wrestling words into descriptions, evocations of a moment, trying to say only enough and not more. And then the music of words and images and, well, music. Then it happens and a sort of moment is there. On the timeline. It's not exactly the 'original' moment. It is a sister of the original. I guess musicians sometimes can make the best documentarians. As long as they are doing it all (in front and behind the lens.) Because musicians know in their bones timing and rhythm, tone and tenor. Musicians are creatures of improvisational immersion.

pea soup, have split peas (soak them for 8-24 hours) and dried whole peas, put some carrot, potato, smoked sausage (rookworst) and bacon (spek) in, you might want to use a strong stock for taste, and grind some pepper, and for topping some maggi leaves. I love pea soup with chunks of salt pork and dumplings. My mom use to cook that while we were growing up! and I haven't made it in quite sometime. Its a popular newfoundland dish so be really for a nap afterwards it makes you sleepy. but I must admit it surely does taste good. Yeah you have to soak the pea's over night or be prepared to cook them for quite a long time.

Sailing in the Wadden Zee was one of the best things i did, 2 years ago. But going around the narrow routes (especially in busy August) can be daunting, trying to avoid all the shallows and massive amounts of traffic at the same time - at least back in 2019, now it might be a bit emptier due to the pandemic. The islands are also amazing, especially Ameland and Terschelling. Beautiful nature and great people, can't wait to go back one day. I also found that sometimes to go between the islands it's better to just take the North Sea route instead of having to battle strong currents and the risk of running aground if going through the Wadden Zee in the eastern islands up to Schiermonnikoog and Borkum in Germany - especially since Navionics charts are usually outdated in a matter of months due to the shifting sand banks. I actually hit bottom at 6 knots because of a wrong chart, which stated there would be 3+ meters depth, but a sand bank must have acccumulated and popped out of nowhere. Fortunately it was soft sand or mud and didn't damage the boat. Keep up with the great channel, been following you since the beginning, but now you're sailing in places i know! You should try to go to Portugal when you sail south again, the Algarve is a really good cruising ground!

Wow guys... sailing to Texel is quite an adventure. The tides currents and banks everywhere is quite daunting! Did u get run over by the fishing boats? I really hope you pass some seals when you leave later! Realize that the Wadden islands have very a rich nautical history. Long time ago the fishermen from those island would hunt wales up along the Norwegian coast. Now you are enjoying the beautiful nature its has to offer. You both became some what part of the history of the Wadden! (ps Oudeschilld translate roughly to “Old shield” and is pronounced somewhat along the lines of “owdenskild” with the Dutch G for CH”). Safe travels! You are true Skippers!

If you love salt water and currents, you should really also visit the Southern part of the Netherlands, especially the Zeeland Delta area, if you have time.
