Do you guys not understand however the Magnus age 23 was arguably the greatest player of all time? What other person can say that? Fischer and Kasparov could make arguments but regardless it’s indisputable that at that age Magnus was as good as any human chess player could be, so his answer with emotion and talks of decline aside...is actually pretty fair. It’s objective.

Right! He's said to be a cross between Fisher and Karpov as a chess player and that surely is a deadly combination.
@sebastianjosefsson36204 жыл бұрын
I think Fischer in 1970-1972 was better than carlsen. Highest rating gap between n1 and n2 with 120 points in history, official chess record. Magnus had 60 points as most. 20 win streak, 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2,5 against former WC and 2 top players, imagine ir Carlsen won for example 6-0 vs Giri/Nepo and then 6-0 vs Maxime/Grischuk and then 6-2,5 vs Kramnik. And then beating Spassky being down 0-2. Also Fischers rating of 2781 in 1972 would be around 2900-2950 today with the inflation. Fischer had a higher rating in 1972 than Karpov had 30yrs later and what anand had 40yrs later, still had higher with rating inflation. I think Carlsen has many feats by his own, as being n1 at 19 yrs old. Longest undefeated streak in history, defended his WC crown 2 times, winning almost every big tournament every year, having highest rating of all time(but this is probably irrelevant, the best player in any era that will come will almost always having the highest rating of all time due to rating inflation). In the end its hard to compare eras, both magnus, fischer and kasparov was the best in their own eras. But for me Fischer is the best player in his prime of all time, while kasparov had the greatest career due to his long reign, and magnus probably taking over kasparovs spot in a couple of years.
@hankmoody6664 жыл бұрын
@@sebastianjosefsson3620 The sport was less competitive in the 70's though, i highly doubt Fischer would have that kind of gap today. Doesn't make sense to just predict he would have the same point gap today as back then. Magnus in his prime would probably beat prime Fischer, but then again if Fischer was playing today he probably would have been better than he was back then as well.
@alvinbernstein10454 жыл бұрын
@an_il_ If Fischer was better than the best Russian player, then obviously also better than all the other chess players. Even if they gather and work together, he would still be better since he is better than the best of them (quite logical, right?). Besides, Spassky had his own tactics and own way of playing and input from outside/other players would just distract him too much from his playing. And there are many other things to consider. Please think thoroughly before you say something.
@pekpeka72893 жыл бұрын
@@alvinbernstein1045 But being better than the Russian was no easy task. The Russians were feeded with tons of resources including money while Bobby was by himself. Love it! Literally just watched this after another vid of him saying his 10 year run as #1 contained a lot of luck too. His combo of hubris and humility is so impressive.

That's the great mindset of magnus where he doesn't want to idolize chess master in the past because he want to surpass them
@andresi1262 жыл бұрын
He has already surpassed them. all of them. The newer generation will always be stronger than the one before.

That joke is working on at least 3 levels, the most humorous being "keeping that in mind'' he didn't necessarily admire himself all that much (personally) at 23.
