Making 500 friends

I find making friends as an autistic person pretty difficult, mostly due to social interaction restrictions. I thought hitting this little milestone was a good opportunity to talk about it (it makes sense in my head okay?). Enjoy my ramblings on the subject 😅

Was 500 , now you have over 4300 😊 , you wuna know why so many people are attracted to you ( in the best way possible ofcourse) it's because your a uniquely beautiful and attractive person 😊 , and yes I procrastinated and overthought the crap out of how the message would sound but in the end it's a nice positive one so just thought sod it , get it written and get it sent and just let fate take care of the rest , ps love your e34 ❤

Maybe it's my YT algorithm, but there aren't many channels where I've seen autistic folks having a good time with friends - so your channel is precious! I've seen all of your videos, and I was especially touched by the Autism & Travel one - yet another one that we don't see much of. It gave me hope that as long as I am careful about certain things, I can have a good time traveling (don't just avoid because you can only imagine the stress). Thank you!!!

Congratulations on 500! My sub count is like talking to 6,500 people at once-- akin to selling out the Hammersmith Apollo two nights in a row, but in KZbin terms, it feels like a failure! I have to remind myself that the number isn't important-- but it's a place to look to see how I'm doing. I haven't posted a video in years, and I still get new subs. (!?)

I always figured being bossy was because I'm an only child. I didn't realize how bad I was until I raised a fist to a friend and saw the scared look on his face. I'd never have hurt him but I felt so bad, it later developed into only doing what everyone else wanted to and not having an opinion on it. Even now I can't seem to keep friendships, and when I feel like I'm the only one putting in any effort I assume it's over, even when it's not.

:D friends! Yeah, If I start thinking about what a 'friend' really is, it quickly gets confusing...but I do know that my close friends are there for me and take me as I am, as I will do for them. We're all on a journey, growing together :)

I never had (still don't) friends outside work/school. Pretty much every time a start a conversation I want to run-away from it, so I'll probably never have in person friends. I have late diagnosed AuDHD.

I was really lucky that I 'chose' a small handful of people early on, and have stuck with them (well, they have stuck with me 😅) all these years later. Making new friends now terrifies me too haha.

Maybe I have a too strict definition of "friend", maybe my idea of friend is closer to "best friend"/"romantic partner"; but I never felt I had more than 1 or 2 friends (besides my family) at any time... And I keep falling out of touch with them when I'm no longer going to the same school or work/live together with them. Currently my only friends is my wife and my second cousin (both of which are autistic too); I have good relations with my parents and aunt too but I don't feel like that counts and I have very little in common with my brother who I only see a few times a year these days. I do have several colleagues that I feel comfortable talking with and who seems friendly and interested enough, but I never meet them outside of work and work related social events, maybe some of them are friends or potential friends; I just don't know it?

I relate to this a lot. It really is a difficult thing to navigate sometimes. My thought process is, if hanging out with them/talking to them feels effortless, then they're a true friend. If I have to ask myself if I have the energy for hanging out/talking to someone, then they're an aquaintance I can get along well with, but not a 'true' friend. One of those people I consider a true friend is also my second cousin! 😅thank you for sharing ❤

I completely relate to this, apart from my wife I don’t get any texts or invites. A wife and two kids they are my world but not having a friend to have a connection to makes you feel lonely and left out.
