This is a 18 minute video, with about 4 hours of study material in it. Sketching and blending the white and black to create a zenithal highlight, using primaries alone to make the other colors. creating a color gradient to paint with, Non metallic metal tutorial, thinning and brush control (Yes, I learned I need to thin my paints even more, and I am pressing way to hard to get paint on the model, I am new at this). Excellent video, with tons of amazing info.

Amazing work from a true artist. Artists and those with natural artistic abilities and an eye for creation make these things look so very easy. In reality you can’t teach someone to be artistic. They can get much better from practice and muscle memory, but most likely they will never reach the level of those who are blessed with absurd levels of artistic talent. It’s kind of like telling someone who’s 5’5 to try and be 6’2. It’s just not feasible. You can work your ass off learning new skills and techniques, but you’ll never make the same model look as good as someone who has amazing genetic abilities and an ingrained ability to foresee every final detail in their work before they make a brush stroke. Doesn’t mean that us average people can’t strive to become better painters, just don’t expect to reach the level of someone like this no matter the amount of practice.

Hi just watched your video I can't believe you can paint a model just with 5 paints. I find it hard to painted a model because all the paint you need to paint just one model. The GW tutorials are so regimented in what they do. I love the video and I joy watching it.

I love that this is considered a "homework project." What a great way to think about and approach painting minis. I've got so many unpainted minis (scowls at self in mirror) and as soon as Marco mentions "homework,' I immediately realize that this is how I get more of them painted. Just do the work and experiment and learn. They aren't all going to be masterpieces. Getting that thought process out of my head is so healthy. Sketch, paint, practice, practice, practice. Thank you, Marco!

For those who keep commenting that they can't do it this fast, or the 15 minutes he spent hand-painting zenithal lighting would take 4 hours for them, etc: don't worry about speed. The speed will come with practice. Focus on getting it right for now. Get used to seeing a model in terms of light and shadow, shape, and contrast. Sketch in light and color, smooth out the transitions, and be proud of your work as you get better and better!

Although there a lot of amazing artist here on youtube (like Banshee), you are possibly the best tutor here. Other artist are either teaching you the same basic techniques, repeating each other word to word, or their level is so high, their painting looks more like some black magic. Marco, you are going in depth in each topic and explain every one of your cool shenanigans. I've started using oil solely because of your videos, while I'd seen a hundred times before other guys using it. I'm 6 minutes in and I had to pause. Marco, you are absolutely my favorite you tube miniature painter. This kind of guide/video series is what I have been wanting. I'm an amature sculptor, painting is new to me. But when I was young my folks could only afford these 4 color crayola oil based clay packs. I has red, yellow, blue and green. Any other colors I wanted I had to mix. Those were my "toys" if I wanted a ninja turtle, I mixed the colors and sculpted one, or a Godzilla, or a power ranger lol. Sadly I never had white so yellow was subbed for white, ALOT. Paints don't allways mix the same as the clay did but I'm learning more color theory as I go. Anyway, thank you for your vids 👍❤

What I appreciate about this video and your approach is how you provide people who are still beginners (like me!) different areas in painting to explore with some rough guidelines to make the whole process less overwhelming while emphasizing that there's no one right way to paint a model. I understand better now how to experiment with painting and enjoy the process as much as I do the results! This is especially helpful because I'm on a pretty tight budget, so all I purchased when I got back into the hobby was the primary colours, black and white with a few other paints that survived 15 years of hibernation. I only have a few brushes, and spent the rest of my budget on one good high quality brush along with the means to clean and care for it. Understanding how to "sketch" out a model with a brush is extremely helpful for me as I was struggling to add highlights and shadows that made sense.

This is the exact style I've been trying to find references for. I love the extreme almost metal album cover colors resulting from the black and white value painting creating such distinctly vibrant colors. Seeing you do this with a brush makes me feel way better about the prospects of having an army look the way I want it to without tools that are currently a little out of my price range. Thanks for always breaking things down and explaining well enough that I feel like I can achieve the same results if I really practice!
