This is a story I did in 1992 on Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA before it closed; a short aerial snapshot of the historic base.

I was stationed there at the Marine Barracks in the late 80's, we started the first Marine Corps FAST Company. Its sad to see it the way it is today.. :(

I was a cop there in the late 80's. There was a fight practically every Saturday night at the NCO club between the marines & the sailors. Who"s bright idea was it to put those two branches together? lol

MCSFB PAC. FAST Co. This is about all you can find on us. There is literally no record of us ever being there. Crazy. Wonder if Chesty's is still there.

This is how I remember Mare Island but today, what a shame to see such a wonderful place look like a war zone. Had some really great memories there. Met my wife at CSTSC in 1971 and use to enjoy walking on the golf course at night. Our barracks are gone, she worked in H1 as the Commanding Officers Yeoman. So sad now.... Thanks for the Good Memories....

I would love to see more footage of mare island when it was an active Navy base. I was in the Navy only 9 months in when mare island closed. I remember Alameda and Treasure island closing too. I worked at the shipyard last year and I could only imagine how it was back in the day. great footage!

@@flyguy4211 I grew up around Oakland and Alameda so I know Alameda Naval Air station, but didn’t visit the north bay that much.

@@FolsomDann I see. I loved working at the shipyard (2015 )and seeing the history it had. I first visited in 2002 when it actually had security there. I remember seeing the protest on the news in ‘93 about saving it from closure.

Very cool, I go to school near the old hospital building now, and it is crazy to see how busy the island once was

yosoyelnino Glad you liked it. Hard to believe that was 25 years ago. I grew up in Vallejo and both parents and both grandfathers worked with there.
