Marie Louise Von Franz - How A Man's Anima Affects Women

In this video, ML von Franz talks about how a man's anima can affect a woman in various ways. This is interesting because typically in psychoanalytic circles, especially the non-jungians, psychoanalysis is very male-referential. This is no small part because a woman can only become a wise, guiding force after they've worked out their animus -- which ML von Franz clearly has.

"playing the Anima is a dangerous game". Thanks a lot, I knew it all along and just needed to hear it. I always felt that knowing how to wrap the male kind in our fingers at a whim, and doing it so often, endangers the (my) sense of identity. Throughout my life I have found that being a blank slate (vague and even whimsical in character) draws men in for reasons they can't even put into words. But it's because they are projecting their ideals onto us (their Anima) and the prize to pay is their inevitable disappointment when they find out we can't live up to their expectations. That we are not who they thought we are. It's bloody painful when you show them who you are and you see them withdrawing. It kind of invalidates the fact that you have a unique identity separate from men's ideals.

when a man's mother has psyche issues, due to the fact her father had serious issues,,, look out, The man is going to be fuked up. Men always look closely at your mother's background, what she says, believes etc. Studying Jung is a key for educating the anima. Sure I can easily fall fora certain type of anima woman,, but at my age i know exactly what she stands for,, she is a hood for my projections and that really she lacks the depth that would really make me happy. A anima woman has all sorts of feminine tricks,,, ,, laughter, humor, harms, etc ,, short term, this is like heaven on earth,,, but as the relation goes forth,,, you may begin to see she is not all you THOUGHT she was.... THe only way to break a bad habit of falling for anima women is to read and study. Once your mind is elevated to new gnosis, the power of anima women is not as strong. Kids should begin studies in Jung starting 10th grade. This way by 12th grade they are ready to date women in college w/o losing the soul in destructive relationships.

In reference to Garbo, wasn't she known for her androgyny - It was 1929 when Greta Garbo introduced trousers into women's fashion, when she appeared in her lover's clothes in The Single Standard. She had a flair for slipping in and out of gender without turning into drag caricatures. Called herself Harry, Garbo preferred to dress up as man. She also never lost her childhood habit of referring to herself as male, often calling herself a 'fellow' and signing her letters 'Harry' or 'Harry Boy'. Had many lesbian love affairs... So how on earth was she the carrier of projection for men, if she had so much masculine androgynous energy?

How very influenced psychology is by its culture and times. I would say that the traditional attributes attributed to feminine like nurturance, sensitivity, sweetness, supportiveness, gentleness, warmth, passivity, cooperativeness, expressiveness, modesty, humility, empathy, affection, tenderness, and being emotional, kind, helpful, devoted, and understanding would be something that men should use in conjunction with traditional attributes attributed to masculine. The worst mistake humanity ever encouraged was splitting the human personality in half and making it unbalanced.

Why would we create more androgynous men? This is exactly what’s happening today, men are culturally pushed into being all of these things at the same time as being masculine, with all the traits associated to it. It is what creates a split between men and women, strong polarities allow humans to merge, not separate. I seek what I can’t be in women, and women seek what they can’t be in me. Together, in a conscious union can we begin to form a unified force.

When I stopped playing the Anima my ex and I broke up. He only saw me as there to give him comfort, and sex and would get mad if I focused on work or my friends. Best thing I ever did.

She's describing my ex to the T. After four years I finally saw what was going on. She actually admitted that she had been entertaining a fantasy. When everything clicked for me I couldn't help but feel deceived, betrayed, and manipulated. It was alllll a show and an act, and she knew it the entire time. My trust in her vanished completely. Any sense of romance towards women vanished completely. I am now the kind of guy that Taylor Swift writes sad/angry songs about. Ruthlessly callous and calculated and manipulative. I let her turn me into a monster. Oh well. Better to be a monster than a soft chunk of mush to be consumed by a spider.

What? I'm not sure you understand how it works. The point here is to teach women that they must be aware if the animus so they won't lose their identity. Now, what your gf did is what 99% of women and men in this world do. We all play a character to fit society when we don't know any better. We all do that because we have an intrinsic need to be loved and accepted even thought that's absolutely not the way to love, this is what most ppl can do while still in ignorance. You seem to have turned it about you and how it affected you...that's so not right. Not only you didn't understand it but went further and made another mistake by turning cold and manipulative.
