Given how the family court system is incredibly biased, this is probably going to work badly for the kids, but I HOPE the father gets full custody, and the "mother" ends up having to work as a maid for people exactly like herself. I was one of those gifted kids, and my mom was like OP, it ended up really badly for me. Now that I'm a parent, I willingly and happily drive an hour round trip in the morning, and again in the afternoon, so my little guy (not so little any more, been doing this nearly 9 years now) around my work schedule, so my kid can get the education he needs. He'll be going into a high school for gifted and talented kiddos (closer to our house even, YAY! LOL) and knows he's important to his parents, I wish my (stay-at-home) mom had felt the same about me!

@@SirNomad I know courts in many jurisdictions are still biased towards the mom but the dad has a strong case to present of him doing what it takes for the best interest of his kids. Her case is about how she was too lazy with all the privileges she had to get her child the best education opportunity possible. She literally told her soon to be ex and the world she was too lazy to drive her kid to school or ask her in-laws for help because she didn't want to do it.

When my daughter was 15 she got a scholarship to an eighth week coding boot camp in SF. It was Mon-Fri 9am to 6pm and a commute of 1.5 hours away by train each way. Damn right I made sure she was able to go even though it meant I had to take hours out of my day for just the train. This lady is going to find out real quick just how difficult it is out there being a single mom with kids where daycare is going to eat up most of your take home pay. Not having house keeping two times a week, and gym time are going to be the least of her worries. 🙄

I suspect she's envious of her own daughter. My mother did the same thing. My mother purposefully refused to let me skip grades refused to put me in gifted classes. Refused to let me graduate high school early. I left home at seventeen and never went back. I am now married and still no contact with her. And it came out years later that she blamed me for "stealing her youth and potential". Some mothers truly despise their own children for no reason. They say their daughter doesn't deserve their career she's not even that talented, she doesn't deserve her husband she's not even that pretty. I have seen mothers post the most hateful things I've ever seen in my entire life about their own daughters. That is the vibes I'm getting from OP.

What the comments didn't flag was that op's husband was pissed that she signed their daughter up to the local public school (using the money he earned) while they were mid discussion about the gifted school. Perhaps you can now get a wife that isn't so entitled and appreciates you.

Just a correction, because it was a little confusing: it wasn’t trading the gym for the car service. It was trading the house keeping service AND the gym membership to hire the car service. So you know what that means? She would actually have to….CLEAN THE HOUSE! And, ya know, go for walks (30 minutes/day), some stretches and maybe some push-ups and sit-ups in her living room. Not to mention the fact that if they could afford housekeeping twice a week, then I’m sure a one shot payout for an at-home treadmill or elliptical trainer would be no sweat (no pun intended). I’m thinking that a guy that is willing to pay for a car service to get his little girl to school is probably making slightly more than minimum wage, ya think? Op is just….I have no words. Wow. My fiancée's mother kept her out of a gifted education program because she thought she'd get socially stunted. I think a part of it was that she was threatened by it. We were good friends back then, and I went to the special education program 2 days a week with a few other gifted kids from our grade. It didn't affect my socialization at all, and kept me engaged and busy enough that my level of homework and study time was still less than my classmates', but actually existed where it didn't before. It got me into graduate classes and programs as soon as I started university, and I was published in a notable journal twice by sophomore year. I'm still living off the passive income from patents I filed when I was 20, and I'm 35 now. My fiancée still thinks she wouldn't have been able to handle the work load, but I very much disagree.

I started living on my own when I was 16 and started spiraling out of control, trying to work two jobs alongside getting my education and trying to raise a newborn. @@genesisshort3097That's not an option in all school systems. My school system wouldn't bump students up regardless of ability to the point they would knock students back down to their "proper" grade if they transferred from another school system. Students also were not allowed to take harder classes. All in the name of fairness of course. Story 2: if she refuses to give you your child back, she has KIDNAPPED YOUR CHILD. The police saying “it’s not our department” are so in the wrong, your child has BEEN KIDNAPPED and they are THREATENING VIOLENCE. You need to speak to different cops who aren’t lazy, get your kidnapped child back AND file restraining orders. From everything OP has explained it sounds like typical narcissists who are extremely abusive, so let them call the courts, it’s very obvious from all of the evidence that they are the abusers, they are kidnappers, and they are 100% in the wrong. I’m a child abuse survivor with PTSD, my mother was extremely abusive, so for OP I’d like to recommend speaking to a trauma therapist. The PTSD diagnosis I got was Complex-PTSD, so things like screaming, shouting, slamming doors, people touching my ears/head/face, the smell of certain alcohols and feeling trapped (like in a corner/I can’t get around someone) all set off my PTSD. I’d like OP to consider therapy because the diagnosis, medication and subsequent therapy really helped me better understand how my mind works and how to cope slightly better on trigger dates.

Yes! I actually said “What the F*ck” out loud when I read the line about the cops saying it’s “not their department”. It literally is their department to return a child to the custodial parents who is being held by someone else & is refusing to return the child without just cause such as abuse allegations. I can just imagine the cops saying it’s a domestic matter which is not their jurisdiction since it’s a family member holding the child hostage. But they are still legally required to remove the child from the grandma & return him to his parents who are his legal guardians.

Because there is NO WAY OP is going to take accountability and admit she was in the wrong. She is STILL doubling down in the update! My mother is almost exactly like OP I left home at seventeen and never went back. We are still NC 10 years later. But OP clearly did not learn her lesson since in the update she was being a hypocrite and complaining he made this decision without consulting her. When SHE made the decision to ignore everyone and enroll her gifted child in public school instead. She's a spoiled brat and I hope she gets a nothing and has to get an entry-level job. That is literally the only way she will become a better person for her children. But due to the hypocrisy and the self-obsessed way she's throwing a tantrum now I'm genuinely worried for her gifted daughter.

I'm actually kinda biased with that first story. My niece went to gifted school, graduated early, and was set up for a free ride in college. Nobody in the family knew she was being horribly bullied and was struggling as a young woman in STEM until she ended things earlier this year. Gifted schools and early education doesn't prepare you for the social isolation that can occur being younger than everyone in your education group, and many high IQ kids have so many expectations on them that they struggle with mental health and addiction to get by.

First, I'm so sorry for your loss... That's the main point. But I do want to push back at the link you are making between gifted schools and bullying. Bullying would happen regardless of what school she went to, I guarantee it. The difference is that, at a regular school, not only would she be bullied for being the smart kid in the class, but she would also be bored and unchallenged, and it would do NOTHING to help her socialisation and would even set her up for failure after highschool if she never learned good studying techniques because she could just coast through K-12. I know. That was my life. It's the life of many neurodivergent kids (gifted or otherwise). She wasn't bullied because she was given an education that supported her academic ability. She was bullied because bullies are shitheads and exist WAY more often than people realise. Her schooling wasn't the problem. Society at large is for demonising intelligence and neurodivergence.

They would sit there and try to insult me, meanwhile these dumb bitches couldn’t read let alone pronounce the goddamn fucking language they few up speaking. I fell asleep the first time in tenth grade in English class because it took SOOOOOOOOOOOOO LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG for these retards to get through reading a two and a half paged short story. Everyone had to read once sentence and these fat fucking losers were struggling and I mean STRUGGLING over words like “the” and “sadist”-IN TENTH GRADE. I thought so low of these pieces of shit when they thought they had the intelligence to hurt my feeing sir whatever the fuck they were trying to do. Discussing fetishes and kinks, even if just in a joking manner, is sexual. And turn about is fair play, especially when it comes to a marriage that seems to have failed due to her pushing her partner for more than he was willing/able to provide in the bedroom. If she has such a high libido then she can go to an adult store and buy some toys and lube, not push the husband.

It took me years to not be affected by doors opening and closing, the sound of van and truck engines. As well as men that are bigger than me with deep voices yelling at me. I have PTSD because of my dad's phyical, sexual and emotional abuse and my moms bipolar. Than to add the emotional abuse and neglect that my husband caused myself and my youngest daughter. My youngest daughter 24 now came to me 20 years ago and told me and her big sis that she felt that my husband didn't love her as much as her big sis. Thats when oldest daughter Danielle told youngest daughter Caitie that Danielle and I would love her more than he would anyway because she was our special baby. I haven't ever been able to understand just how much Danielle loves and adores her Caitie only Danielle knows. But they are extremely important to each other. Danielle has always been extremely protective and borderline obsessed with her sister. I was actually thanked last November by Danielle for giving her the best gift ever for her 3rd birthday. I asked her what that was and her response was "Mom how can you not know, its Caitie " Makes me cry just typing this. To know that your older daughter loves her sister that much and has never felt jealous of her sister or ever fought with her. I have never seen her hit Caitie or heard her even yell at her. Hell half the time Danielle had tovknow were Caitie was every minute just to make sure her sister was safe that was at least until Danielle was ten and could understand her baby sister was ok. But than she has a good reason. My girls were abused by a babysitter. I found out when I walked into that cows home and she was screaming at Danielle for trying to change Caitie who was 18 months out of messy diapers at 4 and a half because her baby had been in a diaper filled with poop for two nickelodeon cartoons aka an hour. My poor baby had sores and blusters from it because she has sensitive skin

Story 3: NTA & OP was right on the nose about the divorce 😂 Sex is important in a relationship (even if both parties are asexual, in that case the LACK of sex is important), however sex isn’t the ONLY form of intimacy out there. When someone makes the mistake of thinking that their partners eventual feel like they’re nothing but a sex toy to them. Which is exactly what happened with the ex-husband, and OP blowing up isn’t crazy. All he’s been hearing from her sister is “sex this, sex that” that is absolutely annoying, especially if topics like that make the OP uncomfortable (which makes sense since the OP & her are related. No family member wants to hear about your sex life). I’m very open when it comes to sex and have made sexual jokes around my sister, similar to what OP’s sister did. @@Batman-lg2zj Sex is important. Whether that means having it or not, sex is important in relationships. It is one of the most intimate things you can do, however if someone over does it (like OP’s sister here) it can become draining/less emotionally intimate. At the sametime not having sex can have negative effects as well (it’s different if both partners agree to not have sex though). Overall sex is very important and is something humans do, not only for baby making, but in order to feel physically & emotionally close to someone. My son is the same...academically gifted, socially awkward(to an extent). He was so bored learning at the same pace as his peers, but at the same time, we didn't want him to know he was ahead of them academically. Didn't want him to get that high ego and "I'm smarter than you" kinda deal.(Not saying all gifted kids are like that. His father is extremely intelligent, too, but he has a huge ego because of it.) He wasn't being challenged the way he needed and he's been so much happier since we transferred him. He was bullied pretty bad at his old school and didn't have any friends except our neighbor's son who is 2yrs older than him so they didn't see eachother much at school being in different grade levels. And no matter how hard I pushed, they made empty promises. I called them out on it and still empty promises so we were already considering other school options for him. But when he starts high school, he'll be going to one in the next district over. Much better school in all aspects. I'm a SAHM (which could change) but I will gladly drive him the 30mins it takes to school and pick him up since it will benefit him in the long run. One issue I've noticed with my son and other kids in the gifted and talented programs is that they are ahead academically, but behind with their maturity level which affects them socially. Obviously all kids are different, but it seems to me like a pattern. There's also things OP can do with the 2yr old to keep them entertained. If a good portion of that time is just parked and waiting...find somewhere nearby that you can take the toddler to and spend that time with them. It can also be turned into a sort of bonding time and routine with the 2yr old. There will be hiccups and days that are much harder than others, and as said in the story, asking the in laws to babysit for a bit or pick Juliet up after school are options. And after school, the 7yr old, too. Then have some one on one time with the 6yr old on a weekend day or something so they are also getting some bonding time with OP. You can't just not take an opportunity like that just because you don't want to spend the time on it.

I'm sorry, I truly do think being a stay-at-home mom is very hard work and a really important role/job. However, I don't understand what this particular mom is doing all day if they had a housekeeper and she is barely taking care of her kids. When the story started, I kind of understood where she was coming from because I assumed she had a job based on how burdensome she made the extra driving seem. But nono, she's just selfish Edit: for story 3, I actually sympathize with the sister. I have a high libido and my ex wanted sex like twice a month and it wrecked our relationship. That situation is really hard for the partner who wants more frequent sex because you can't make your partner want it more, and if they try to meet halfway it's obvious they're not into it. The result is that the low libido partner gets the amount of sex they want and their partner feels rejected and dissatisfied. Different sex drives can really impact relationships and are a totally legitimate reason to break up/divorce. Sex is one of just a few things that separates friendship from romantic love, so yes, the love can die without it

Then dont marry the low libido person? I felt shitty when my ex went from 3 times a week to never after 2 yrs and refused to be in the same room as me unless it was to sleep. It was because she was cheating and using me. I was more upset all intimacy died not the lack of sex. Hell i was more annoyed she was always home so i couldnt jack off in peace cuz she found it weird when i did it when she was home.

@@Kris-wo4pj sorry about your ex; that's super shitty of her to keep you basically repressed while she did whatever she wanted. I hope it hasn't messed up your view of relationships/women as a whole. Also LOL my ex did the opposite in terms of getting off when he was home; I tried enticing him once by playing with a toy in front of him and he left the damn room, saying "you looked busy so I was giving you privacy" 🙃. It's funny bc we actually had sex every day when we first started dating, but then the honeymoon phase ended. He kept telling me it was temporary and would improve after x event or y deadline, but after 2 years of unmet optimism I gave up. That's probably what happened in that story. Sometimes the dynamics of a relationship change over time and the perfect person turns out to not be right for you, and imo that's nobody's fault. For prolonged dissatisfaction/unhappiness in marriage, it's understandable for those who want to stick it out, but it's also okay to leave

Story 1: so, as a SAHM with multiple housekeepers, what exactly is it that you do that means you're too busy to go 2 hours out of your way most days to make sure your own child is receiving the proper education that fits their needs? I'm seriously curious. Apart from the gym and not cleaning the house, of course. Did you cook, or anything? Bet you had people for that too. "He can't make decisions about my life without consulting me" If he finances those parts of your life, then I say he can. And besides, did you consult him when you decided to dump your very gifted child in a public school? I do hope that, once the divorce is finalized, you get a taste of the real world. Then you'll see how much time in a day there really is.

Story 1: I was Juliet. But I never had the possibility of access to a gifted school or magnet school. Instead, the best we could try to do was skip me a grade, but the board never approved of it because then "how would I socialize with those older kids." So, they didn't. After 1st grade, they kicked me to a 3rd grade class for reading and would either give me the math textbook for the next grade or put me in front of a computer for math. My school wasn't the best at each grade level, and because I had good grades all the time, I got bullied all the time. I never got to socialize well with students in my grade level or the grade level ahead. They would repeat the same grade level of reading and math multiple years (booting me to third grade reading during 1st and 2nd and then almost keeping me at 3rd grade before a teacher realized I could read and understand at a 12th grade level and got me into a 5th grade class, and then that stagnated up to 5th grade, giving me a 5th grade math workbook in 3rd and 4th grade and keeping me with that workbook in 5th grade to the point that I DID stagnate in math and got humbled by my 5th grade teacher on my first day in her class). The point is, I didn't get to be challenged the way I deserved until middle school, and I've never learned how to study or prepare for exams because I was already just good at everything in elementary school. I've somehow made it most of the way through college without much trouble, but as a kid, school was miserable.

Story 3: amazing how OP cannot even conceptualize of someone needing more sexual intimacy than he does and that long periods without it can damage a relationship and hurt a person. I'm fairly low libido and even I understand that. I didn't have sex for the last nearly 2 years of my relationship for many reasons (long distance) but mostly because it was a symptom of ME growing resentment for the situation and pulling away. I shut down sexually when I'm not being fulfilled in other areas of the relationship. Maybe his sister's husband wasn't happy with other things and they could work on those yes, but maybe this is a newly developed fundamental incompatibility that can't be worked through. There are people out there with inherently higher libidos than me which yes, will slow down with age, but we'd probably never have a truly satisfying relationship for either of us for many many years of our time on earth if we just tried to make it work anyway.

She turns everything sexual to the point her ex is afraid to even be touched by her and once a week is too low for her. At that point she has a problem she needs to see a doctor about not him. Also she thinks intimacy only exist when being sexual which is extremely unhealthy. She has a disorder not a high libido.
