Anyone who wants to write a good dramatic video game, or shit even a dramatic space opera of any medium, should be required to play through Mass Effect, even on Narrative. Aside from people's qualms with the ending the whole thing is masterfully written. One of my fine examples of what makes video games an artform. Whether crafted by amateurs or the masters, there's still some artful finesse.

The mission on Thessia actually made me feel like shit. Kai Leng being so cocky with his stupid gunship was so annoying, as if I hadn't taken out a few of them in ME2 having a low level and fighting the Blue Suns with only a stupid pistol or having just Kasumi to help me. it wasn't fair, I didn't give Leng time to attack once, he couldn't protect against my constant charges and Novas. As for the gunship, I totally could've crashed the fucker, given the chance. I wasn't at my Commander Shepard-est because of boundaries created for plot convenience.

It's because the asari are the most advanced race in the galaxy, and while the Citadel is the capital of the galaxy, Thessia is its heart, since it's considered the centre of galactic democracy, culture and the arts. The fall of thessia, talis death and the beginning when the fleet is leaving earth, most emotional moments, you really get the sense it's a hopeless war they are fighting, I loved the whole mystery surrounding the reapers before the leviathan wrecked it....... I'd love if in mass effect 4 you could pick your own species and get a completely different original story with each species, so many stories they could do in mass effect 4 they really have a chance to create something special.

If Shepard chooses the synthesis, the ending changes. If you save your teammates in Mass effect 2 the ending changes, if you don't accumulate enough resources in the 3 games the ending changes and everything can go very badly. in short, it is absolutely false that nothing changes.

I think it hit Shepard so hard because he promised he would prevent Thessia from being lost by obtaining the artifact at the temple, yet was beaten by Cerberus of all people. He felt like it was his fault directly, that Thessia was lost. Earth, he had no real way of protecting due to the largest of the Reapers forces attacking it because of their fear of Shepard. Palaven was already heavily lost when Shepard first got there.

Tragic scene. Liara being there with you just solidifies the loss. So does the music, and the radio chatter. And yes, I agree with someone else... they should've made Shepard fall to his/her knees, and shed a tear. That would've hit a lot of players hard, because Shepard is a person who doesn't get emotional in times of crisis. Shepard is a stoic leader and to see Shepard let a guard down and get emotional in this moment would've been a fantastic design choice I think.

He would, not only, put his own people in danger by sending them into unbeknownst enemy traps, which he IS aware of, to collect intel on the enemy. But, more importantly, he would use an entire human colony as bait to draw the enemy out of hiding.

Wellif itll do any good, Kai Leng got defeated by Shepard with a heavy melee after his katana broken by his\her fist. Hes a phantom class in game and unless youre krogan or geth juggernaut heavy melee is a death sentence for you. You basically destroyed him even he had reaper tech and n7 training.

I think it's more or less the idealism of, wow, the alliance fell, palavan follows up, and then it's the turn of sur-kesh and then thessia falls. People then start to realise, this is devastating, all hope is lost because like 3/4 or 5/6 of an entire galaxy fleet is lost (excluding geth and quarian).

He was there to watch earth fall too, and he witnessed the Turians, the most powerful military force in the galaxy, getting their asses handed to them by the Reapers. It was obvious Thessia's fall was inevitable, and the Asari refused to believe it. They were overconfident, and they waited until the last possible second to tell you that they've been hiding the VI that could have prevented all of this in the first place.

Well, think about it. Thessia hadn't been even remotely threatened by anything since the Rachni War. To have the double blow of the Reapers bringing the planet to its knees, and Cerberus escaping with the only lead on the Catalyst was enough to make people start losing their shit.

Probably because: A- The only thing that could help them win the war was located on Thessia and they loose it. B- The Asari are the oldest, wisest and most respected race, if they loose to the reapers you know there's no hope of winning. C- Shepard was so sure that when he landed that there would be no more death and that he would definitely be able to save those commandos he met, but he came so close only to lose again.

Theres just something about that rising and falling pitch with an overall upward or downward trend that clicks with us. You'll notice that virtually every piece of instrumental music has it at some point. Nobody is quite sure why, but some things just sound sad to pretty much everyone. And thats why they can use background music: people have an almost universal response. Check out 4:39 on HALO 4 OST: Arrival. same pattern, but the trend is down, not up, opposite response.

I have read it. It says large swaths of territory were regained, but not all of the planet. NOBODY was able to fully drive the reapers off of their planets. All it did was boost morale. If they had fully managed to push the reapers off the planet it would've defeated the purpose of Hackett saying "We can't win this conventionally"...and even if they did, the Reapers would just send more ships.

Palaven did fall. Garrus says later he's pulling whatever support he can from Palaven to wait until the attack on Earth. Wouldn't imply that he was giving up--more simply feeling like it's his fault. It'd still fit into the aftermath--nomatter what happens, Shepard is really upset about the outcome.

Apparently not doing the interrupt kills Kai Leng anyways, man. I have yet to test this out, but I can't imagine them killing you off if you don't choose a renegade option.
