My 10 yr old border collie is great. He was trained by me and a 4 yr old Great Pyrenees/Catahoula that I inherited from a neighbor when he died. The Great Pyrenees had been wonderfully trained as a house dog and was a perfect teacher for my puppy. If he got out of line, that huge paw would rest on his whole body to calm him down! Now I have that border collie who is now 10 yrs old and a 14 week old Anatolian puppy (female) who thinks she knows everything. The border collie has made her realize that he outranks her, and she is learning that I will put her into a submissive position to settle her down. I raise large goats. A brand new, first time mother, this morning explained to the puppy that goats have horns and can roll a puppy if the goat feels that the puppy is bothering her or the new born kids. She is learning spoken commands but she still wants to chase the goats, so she and I have a lot of work to do.

I can't believe, I have border collie 4 month old and no "YES" in this test. He is so inteligent he even know to bring me 2 different toys by name for now.He constantly turning back checking up on me and never go to far when we are outside,he always seat on command or seat on traffic lights and when he hear "beep" he start to crossing. He drop anything from mouth same sec when I command him, he stop on command or when I say "slow" he walking slow. Unbelievable inteligen puppy, I am very proud of him.

In July of 2021 I adopted a one-year-old Lab/Staffy. I have always had active, working dogs/Labs, trained them myself and lived with them like family members and honestly, I thought I was ready to take this challenge on. What I did not take into full consideration is that now I live in a condo, and I am age 71 with diminishing energy levels. I spent the first 6 months teaching my girl basic commands and acclimating her to our living style and the ruled of our condo community. She learned the basic commands quickly. However, I was not a good leader when it came to walking her on leash without pulling. I came to realize that with my other dogs we had lived in the country on five acres and had access to 20 more wooded acres to walk our dogs. I never had to walk them on leash (except when we went to town) and my leash walking skills needed help. I also never used "training treats" for training. I hired a professional trainer who worked with me and taught me some additional skills that I needed. It's taken an extra year to put what I have learned into practice as well as daily training practice. I am improving but I did underestimate exactly how challenging it was going to be to rescue.

Thanks , Carole. I’ve been working with my pup and not getting the results I want. I truly thought I had the worse puppy ever. But I stayed consistent in my training. After watching this video, I realized we are actually doing pretty good as a team , owner/pup. Thanks for the encouragement that I’m in the right track with my pup.

My dogs behave over excited at the vet and groomer which is in a pet store full of people, smells, and other dogs. But then… when the staff take them back… they fight to stay by my side. I must sneak away. I have leadership gaps… when the number of distractions are more than our normal. When I crate them when I must leave them at home… one dog looses it. Full panic. The other is fine. When the house front doorbell rings… they go nuts at first, then look to me to see what they should do. I tell them to sit and stay. They sit and stay… but struggle to stay when the front door opens. Sometimes one will break which motivates the other…sometimes both stay. I’m working with them… and it’s a never ending lesson. They both are 2 years old. Love the videos!

These are such great videos!!! I only answered yes to the barking issues. My pup is not dog friendly and I am trying to teach him he doesn’t have to freak out barking at every dog or person he sees. How do I show my dog I am aware of the threats around us and have it under control?

Yes, yes, yes...I'm having all these issues. In one week with my Boston Terrier I think I've really messed her up. I wish I had spent more time watching training videos before we committed to buying a puppy. I've always had 1 - 2 year old rescue dogs so this is really my first puppy. I wish I was younger and not so disabled so I could do more with her. Reality is, I am mostly bed/chair bound and this week has worn me down. Esp. after she literally attacked me today. I had to put her in her crate...and no even though we've worked some on crate training, she is not a happy camper in her crate. I want to put her in to sleep tonight. But I am afraid she will keep us up all night. She has been sleeping with me mostly. She slept with my husband last night, and he actually had to get up and bring her to my room to get some rest in the middle of the night. What were we thinking? lol...we love her already so much. TY

My Dobie is only 4 months old so having answered "yes" to three questions gives me confidence. He's a Dobie so I can't really fault him taking my socks and underwear LOL 🤣. He doesn't chew them, he just takes them and then sleeps. I thought that when a dog wants to engage with you like bringing a ball or toy to you that that is a good thing? I don't know, I'm a bit apprehensive about that question. Thank you!

Great video, I'm wrapping up Puppy Essentials with my 4 month old English Setter Judah :-) I agree that leadership is about building that bond of trust, respect and love, but I also do see the need for the dog to know that we humans are in charge, especially depending on the breed. The dog feeding ("ok!") / entrance exercises are great for establishing that sort of thing.

Always, you guys are so helpful. Nice treat realizing I've a new McCann video to watch with my morning coffee. You guys have helped me raise my now 7 month old Aussie, River. He's my heart. The worst puppy biter I have EVER had. Ever. But he's stopped, finally! He's a bit of a handful when he sees a squirrel. So stereotypical. Had a long lead tied to my belt loop at park. Was chatting with my boys and not paying attention. Pup ran full speed at a squirrel and if my belt loop had not snapped, I'd have been yanked really hard flat on my back. :) I know I shouldn't have had him tied to me but try taking a full of himself un neutered super Aussi to a park, along with a 10 and 11 year old! You live and learn!

Got 9 No's and 1 maybe/at times. Thought them Leave it since they were weeks old and that covered most of you tests. So far only issue might be the picking up, one 5 months pup is almost perfectly 9k with it the other ....tried successfully when she was a pup but now she weighs as much as me and is as tall so ..😅 bit hard tbh

Love the video, I’m so glad to see my answers are almost (there’s one I can’t guarantee to say) yes. This makes me happy. In the end of the video, the dog looks afraid on that rock… just my feeling about it …. Maybe should build up her confidence on a small uneven surface before having her there for long time, uncertain and afraid. ❤

Answer was no to most of the questions. I think I build quite a good relation wity my rescue from emergency Ukraine during the half year that I have him. The one thing he does not allow me to do is brush him. I don't know about his past, only that he was abandoned by his owners when they fled the country. Any tips on how to slowly get him used to the brush

I follow your channel and many other about dogs and dog training channels so that I can be a great owner, know more about dogs and have a good relationship with my dog but I recently started having an issue with my dog soon to be 1yr old pup and He was never like this before! I give him so much love, I'm patient and treat him well but he recently started displaying signs of aggression and have bit my hand badly several times to get his way and when I open my front door he sometimes runs out and then ignores me when I call him back! Why do you think that is?! What am I doing wrong? what can I do to fix it and make things better with him?! 😕

Hi, I have a question. I adopted a Goldendoodle, Willow I’ve had her for 1 month now. She’s 10 weeks. And I’ve been training her since day 1 and following your guides. She is amazingly smart. But I’ve taught her to wait for permission as you’ve said, by making her wait until I say “ok”. She has that down very well. The problem I’ve run found. Is the touch command. She won’t touch or go for the treat until I say “ok”. And I know that won’t work if I’m out somewhere that I need her to pay attention to me and “touch” as I’ve commanded. What do you suggest

Never ever allow your dog to play tup. Think of a child or old person with a belt or similar moving as the human walks by. The dog will think it's tup time.dont know where you hang out.tug is dangerous. The dog is killing the rat. Stop that. Dangerous dangerous. Man you talk a lot. Good by.
