What do I do if my pup just keeps chewing on the house line? I keep trying to redirect her attention to one of her toys, but she loses interest within 20 seconds and starts on the leash again. She's about 5 months old and a heavy chewer. I can't seem to break her of that habit

My Labrador is the same way. There is absolutely no way he will sit still long enough to train. The puppies they are using have already done initial training. That makes it a lot easier. These puppies are strictly for their training sessions .

Hi, I grew up with dogs but as I got older I developed allergies towards dogs that turned deadly (asthma attacks) so I have a 29yr old son & I felt so guilty that I couldn’t get a dog for him growing up. I receive allergy shots for 9yrs but unfortunately I’m still allergic but it’s much better now & they are better controlled. I’ve been thinking of getting a hypoallergenic dog and would love to get a male Bolognese dog, but having trouble in finding such dog🥺 I was diagnosed with MS in 2002 but to look at me you would never know. The main reason I want a dog its because I know how much a dog would help me & for the dog. A win win all the way around😊 I watched this video & it made me want a dog even more! You are very good & would love to learn more of your techniques but first I have to get my dream dog first. So I can apply your awesome techniques! Thank you! As for your allergies, as weird as this sounds, try an elimination diet. I went off dairy for 3 weeks to see if my health would improve... and my dust mite allergy went away! I told a naturopath about this and she said that that was not uncommon. Dairy (for one) over stimulates the immune system. Just a thought, I know how horrible allergies can be.

Hi, great video, thanks. I had a mini yorkie for 14 years and no training issues with her at all, she learnt obedience and tricks very quickly. I got 8 and half week old mini yorkie puppy now, and I struggle to get her attention with kibble, she's not so fussed about it at all so I cant use it for training and if I use a piece of chicken as a training treat, that works, but then she doesnt want to eat her kibble at all. I tried to put her on house line, she's ok with the miniature harness I got her but keeps biting the line constantly. .any suggestions please?

When u taught “out” are u using that as “drop it”? I use “let’s go out” for potty...when I say let’s go out...we go to the door. Is “drop it” okay as two words? (He’s a German Shepherd....I REALLY need that command lol)
@McCannDogs5 жыл бұрын
Hey there, BamaMom0225! I actually have trained both. Or only one. Or “Give”. To be honest it doesn’t matter why the word is. And you can use different words for different dogs! As long as you are 100% consistent with that word and use it specifically for the behavior that you expect. You can even get creative and use a completely strange or funny word. Drop it will definitely work though! Happy Training! ~Ken

McCann Dog Training ❤️ thank you!!! He’s 7 weeks old and has his name and sit. I’ve had him a week! I would even go as far to say he’s semi potty trained. He whines and heads for the door. As long as I’m consistent and take him out often...he doesn’t have any accidents. I was so shocked at how he seemed to know sit without much teaching....I called to ask lol. They said he had never been worked with behind socializing. It had been 7yr since we last had a GSD. We lost our guy back in December to bloat :( I kept trying to remember “training” him but I couldn’t recall. Now I know why lol. When we taught something once it seemed to stick if we just used it and without any sit down “work” with him. With this pup I want to go a little further with training so I’ve been researching. Your videos are awesome. Thank u for the new link!

When I attempt luring with my puppy he ends up lunging and biting at my hand rather than following peacefully. Do you have any advice?
@tylerminard4 жыл бұрын
Anytime there is tooth on skin just move the treat up and away (out of reach). Bring the treat slowly down once the pup has calmed and if the puppy appears to be too excited and nips again or lunges for it just rinse and repeat. Alternatively you can hold the treat out in a closed hand and if the puppy nips/bites at the hand just hold it still and make sure you show no reaction. If the puppy licks, sniffs, or is just in general a bit more gentle simply open your hand and allow them to take the reward. Just always remember that biting ≠ getting a reward. Either technique will take a bit of repetition. Hope that helps! Best of luck!

Do you have any tips for unruly teenage pups? Joking, there only 6 months old. But honestly, i need your help, Rocky ( my tan lab mix ) keeps chewing on everything from paracord to chair legs, and Shadow ( my black lab mix ) keeps doing her business inside even though I've been trying to train her. HELP!
@McCannDogs6 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Donna! Supervision of your pups is going to be very important if they’re making bad decisions right now. The only way to stop some of those behaviors is to simply identify the bad choice (by catching them in the act and interrupting them with a “hey” or an “oops” or something to stop them). Then redirecting them onto something that they CAN chew! Using your crate or a space where they don’t have so much freedom is really gong to help you fix these problems. We have so many videos that will help you train through these issues, but I’m away from the training facility and on my phone, so I can only share one link right now. I’ll post a link to our Potty Training Playlist to get you started on fixing some of these issues. I hope it helps! ~Ken kzbin.info/aero/PL7BBgLulherkDs-Zi5TTSxcJq8QCHMLRj

Some tips for puppy car sickness: 1. Don't feed the puppy too much before putting them in the car 2. Take them out to poop or pee before hand, so they are comfy in the car 3. Make sure the puppy's seat holds him/her firmly

Good questions, Amberjl! You should use your house-line any time your puppy is out of their crate. Make sure you are using your house-line so that you can have a little more control of your puppy. Here's a link to a video that you'll find helpful that talks about it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ambOlYGIa9N0hdU Happy Training! ~Ken

What if your dog doest like the kibbel reward anymore?
@McCannDogs4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Beau! Kibble is a pretty boring reward. Changing it up throughout each training session is a good idea. Especially if your dog is working extra hard to be successful at a specific skill. Having several different kinds of rewards in your training pouch is always a good idea. We actually have a recipe for a homemade treat that dogs love. I just got a 6 week old rat terrier. He will NOT potty in the grass. I know that he was kept in a large kiddie pool. And it was a smooth surface. But I need him to go in the grass. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi McCanne. This is very helpful video. My puppy is Jack Russell, her name is Diasy. As i am in recovering from cancer treatments, i am too tired and i can not go out too many time. So i am training Daisy to use a litter box. I have been successful to make Daisy pee & poo in the litter box. But i do not know how to teach Daisy to go to litter box bu herself when she needs to pee or poo. Can you help me please?

Grace Goni I have done the same thing with my Jack Russell. Slight difference is I got a small doggie playpen. Put the box in the pen. Started putting him in there after meals and water intake through the top. I did that for the first week. Treat after success of potty use. In the second week I opened the mesh door and manually put him in there and zipped the door until successful potty (only took a few minutes) with treat after. The third week I put a training pad under the playpen yet at the door entrance in case of an accident on the way if he made it on his own he got a treat. By week four he was going on his own and I was able to remove it from the walls of the playpen. I know it’s a lot to read but I hope this helps. I decided on the playpen to help restrict the open areas.

I named my dog Prince Archie! He is the laziest pup you will ever come to meet. He will sleep for 2 hours straight, then play for literally 5 minutes, then eat for 5 minutes, and then I’ll take him out to pee! The time he is awake is only about 15 minutes until he goes back to bed for another two hours! This is probably normal for an 8 week old puppy that has just been introduced to a new environment. I’m still trying to track his name but it’s no use because I haven’t bought any dog treats yet. This is definitely something I need to think about. But overall, he is just a little angel until you try to take his favorite monkey toy, of course.

What if you adopt a dog that already has a given name
@McCannDogs5 жыл бұрын
Hi there! This is actually a pretty common question we get. You can definitely teach your dog to respond to a different name. Or you can do some of these exercises to help them have a better response to any name you give them: How To Teach A Puppy Its Name - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqS5q2uCl8-qe6M Happy Training! ~Ken

I recently acquired a 2 yr old pup whose name I wasn't crazy about. He picked up on the new name I gave him with no trouble. It's definitely possible.

Can I use a harness instead of a collar?
@McCannDogs5 жыл бұрын
Hi there, DQbee! Harnesses are great after your pup has learned to walk on a loose leash. We have harnesses for all of our own dogs! But while you’re training, a well-fitted flat buckle collar is the best h thing for training. You have a lot better control of their head this way! Thanks for watching ~Ken

Why do you say "out" instead of "drop it" isn't "out" to go outside?
@judymiller5154 Жыл бұрын
you get to train to your preferences. I use out for outside and drop it to trade whatever is in her mouth for a treat. I did the name/treat hundreds of times the first week bcz her breeders used a different name for her first 9 weeks. Haven't used "come" yet - she runs to me on her name. We use down for lay down and off for not jumping up on people and getting off the furniture. We use wait to begin patience, not required to sit or stay, not using those words yet.
