Agree 100%. But the challenge is finding anyone who is trustworthy tbh

100%. The exploitative and rather egoic Business model of therapy as well as multiple power dynamic structural conflicts to healthy trust between an ordinary person and the therapist discourage my confidence in that type of self care.

I love your message. I also love that you're not wearing any plastic clothing, which has to be a conscious effort in this plastic age and environment we are surrounded by. My respect and admiration, George.

Those who have any skepticism about the value of modern Western psychotherapy could benefit from education on the peer reviewed literature illustrating why it works so well. There are illnesses of the mind and body you can’t pray or meditate away and the benefit of Western medicine re: both the body and mind, and the advances in integrative therapy for trauma and mental illness, makes it an apples to oranges comparison with spiritual practices. Modern psychotherapy is something most people can benefit from, in addition to their deeply valued spiritual practices.

@@George-Thompson Actually, meditation made me realize the toxicity of my thoughts and underlined why I need to address them through therapy. I was jumping back from my thoughts like I was putting my hand on a hot stove.

The meditative posture requires you to be in control of what you want to achieve in order to transcend from one plane or level of "being" to the next "plane of being". The progression is all about in control of your mind-matter and source energy (prana). Those who seek therapy are almost at "broken" state of mind. Its opposite of robust psychic state of mind. Those seeking therapy often requires nurturing a mental state of mind and motivation to progress.

What's better than therapy is mantra recitation such as the mantra of compassion OM MANI PADME HUM which is said to contain the whole of Buddhism within it. It will dissolve all your negative emotions over time, which is your karma, and with no remainder.

If trauma could be unhooked from the nervous system, life experience etc I am sure everyone would just dust it off as you suggest. There are reasons clinging or holding is happening in the mind body spirit.

I think for me, I realize the answer to my anxieties and know the irrationally of them. That it’s my ego trying to protect its self. But the urge to think on it again continues in me. Meditation and mindfulness helps, but therapy is also needed for me. While I do think mindfulness helps you get through the moments and enjoy life, I also think it’s important to try and realize what’s at the root of certain fears, especially if they aren’t apparent. For example, I could be worried about a mistake I made at work and that I could get fired. My fear is I get fired. Simple! So then I realize it’s out of my control and mindfulness helps. But say now someone does something that bothers me immensely, but I’m not sure why. I’ve seen this behavior before and thought nothing of it, but in this situation with this person, I feel different. That’s when it’s important to try and figure out the root. At least in my opinion.

Western therapy tends to reinforce and strengthen the ego with coping mechanisms and defense strategies…whereas eastern meditation practices get to the root of the issue which is attachment to / identification with the ego-based persona and its fears and desires.

There are people who need therapy before getting into meditation. Many high level meditation teachers say that you need a healthy ego before you are stable enough to let it go.

If 99.9% of our problems are relationship based, why on Earth would a person allow the same destructive Western thinking , which is highly individualistic, not at all relational, and expect to heal?

@@katejudson8907 unfortunately we don’t have a culture that supports other perspectives generally speaking. And it is very difficult for most people to break away from social pressures and seek out alternate paradigms, as helpful as they may be. There is incredible pressure to conform with what is culturally acceptable.

Most therapists are too shallow and undeveloped to be able adequately to resolve anybody else's problems.
