Batman: Return of the Joker, known in Japan as Dynamite Batman, is the follow-up to Sunsoft's first Batman game on the Nintendo Entertainment System. This is a remake of Return of the Joker, titled Batman: Revenge of the Joker, was released on the Sega Genesis by Ringler Studios in 1992. The story begins with the Joker escaping from an insane asylum, and through various henchmen, tries to send Gotham City into chaos. Batman must survive several side-scrolling levels with various tricky jumps, and defeat a multitude of enemies and bosses to ensure that Gotham is safe. Batman is armed with a utility belt that allows him to collect various types of icons throughout the stages in order to shoot different types of batarangs and projectiles. Batman is one of my favorite heroes of comics. Honestly the NES version is better. The Mega Drive had much more to offer in terms of hardware. Not to mention that no items to recharge life in this game, which makes it all very difficult.

the guy with the games It's obscured by it's NES version which is the one most people remembers. And i understand why, the music in the NES version is so good, but this game has cool animations, a kick move, the sliding does damage and most of the times doesn't hurt you when you touch an enemy while sliding.

Even though the Sega version has ''more graphics'' (which doesn't necessarily mean ''better'', i just mean more stuff on the screen) and Sega's z80 sound chip, i still have to favor the NES version simply because it pushes the NES hardware near it's maximum. The NES version feels like they really tried to make a 16bit game on an 8bit system. It reminds me of that special point in time between a game system and it's successor where the technology starts to 'overlap'.

I personally don't see anything wrong with this port besides the difficulty...like as a kid I could never get past that boss that goes back and forth on the ceiling and shoots those explosive beams you can't dodge in that room with the two lazers shooting at you lol only thing I could think of is the soundtrack, but that's fine. Genesis Synth is cool with me

So, I went ahead and did some research on the team this was outsourced to, and much to my surprise... Ringler Studios was a joke. All they have to their name are a bunch of unimpressive sports titles, and a port of Clay Fighter to the Genesis. This studio had no business touching a license like Batman. My guess is Sunsoft was going to lose the license with the next Batman movie so Sunsoft likely outsourced the port to get it out as fast as possible.

For crying out loud, finally somebody made a decent walk through! Good work, really! The game is a FQing mess, it is hard as hell, but I still think it is a good game. It has its one charm. It looks good and the sound is awesome. Except some times when it has pierced me ears. I think you can have worse games on the Genesis.

Wow, Sunsoft did something really amazing with the NES version, the graphics and sound effects and... everything was better than the Genesis version. This one looks and sounds awful (ah, my ears!). Horrible port of a game that's way better on the inferior console.

The Adventures Of Batman And Robin is the best one on Genesis. Great game! It's one of the most technically impressive games for the system too. I also like Batman and Batman Forever.

That's the safest bet, the original Batman game is the best one on the Genesis. Batman's luck on the Genesis wasn't as great as his NES, Game Boy, and SNES luck. SNES and Genesis got stuck with the garbage Batman Forever, Genesis had the horrible Batman Returns (a drab looking not due to the atmosphere, but the choice of, and lack of colros in the game, Batman and Robin,while a good game, has the most unfitting soundtrack, and a difficulty that was typical of western developers back then (difficulty spikes instead of gradual difficulty learning curve).

I think this is a good example of a game that the makers "painted over" to fit the characters, instead of building from scratch. If I had bought this back in the day I would have felt ripped off, esp vs the other two batman games based on the movies.

The very worst part of this game has to be that bizarre wrist cannon thing. How do you produce a Batman game that doesn't require any sort of punching or kicking? Just feels out of place. Not that Batman doesn't depend on his gadgets & tech, but this seems like overkill, a bit.

The difficulty in this port isn't balanced. Your attacks do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO THE BOSS. I swear the boss fights in the NES version went by more quickly than this. Had Sunsoft ported this and not outsourced it, chances are the Genesis port would have been a superb upgrade.

I think even the graphics look better on the NES. The colors look so off on this version, and the Batman sprite is just plain ugly. This barely looks like a Genesis game at all. It looks more like a rushed early Amiga game.

Blame the GEMS sound driver for making this game sound so shitty. However, there do exist some Genesis games that use the GEMS sound driver that actually sound amazing. One prime example: The first Earthworm Jim. If Tommy Tallarico handled this one, even with GEMS he could make this piece of shit sound good like he did with Earthworm Jim.

I love this version. I prefer the Mega Drive version. I dont think the NES version are better. gamers only fill it with praise, just because it's from a Nintendo video game, but the NES version is not so special, just normal, on my opinion. I am not a fanboy, but the Mega Drive version it's so nice for me.
