Though popular, Markle has faced heavy scrutiny in her transition to royalty. You know, that's not the way it works when you are a member of the Royal Family, whose salaries and expenses are paid by taxpayers. The people of the UK have a right to expect something in return. The Family members have to give up a certain amount of privacy and autonomy in return for their LAVISH lifestyle. They don't get to have it all their way!

@Merlene Taylor Yes, they bring in tourist dollars, but they wouldn't if they were all off having their privacy! So it's 2.57£ per taxpayer per royal per year? That's not insignificant over the long term. It's like these movie and music stars that won't sign autographs for their fans because they want their privacy. They apparently forgot who put them in that tax bracket, who buys their CDs or sees their movies. When you are in the public eye, you are expected to be more accessable than private citizens: if you don't like it, live a private life out of the media. The British are known for their tradition and protocol. They have every right to expect that to continue.. You make it sound like the royals take in all those tourist billions. Surely you can't think that! They bring that money in for businesses, such as hotels, restaurants, transportation, shops, etc. The business owners pay taxes which go in part to the royals, but certainly not all. I would love to see the UK, but I wouldn't go to see the royals. My tourist dollars would not be due to them. I'm sure many others go for other reasons too.

Knitwit They do the work that they are assigned to do. They show up in public when they are required to. They bring in more than tourist dollars, they are bringing in donors from around the world to the various charities they support. Those dollars help to keep the British taxpayers from having to pay even more for the under privileged. They are also bringing in online orders for British fashions. They are stimulating the British economy in many other ways...especially for the media. They are earning their keep. They are entitled to a certain amount of privacy and they are taking that liberty that they are entitled to...no more... maybe even less if she comes back from maternity leave earlier than the six months that she is entitled to. Also, I don’t think a baby parade is a safe option for their baby considering the death threats they have gotten in the past.

Knitwit The lesser Royals are not paid a salary to work. I believe they live rent free in the historical properties gifted to them by the queen, taxpayers pay for their security, transportation and business expenses while on duty, but no salary. They buy their own clothing, home furnishings, food and other personal effects.

Everyone got their modern celebrity sitings of the heir apparent (William & George) and their siblings with Diana and Kate so why the pressure now on births that are outside of the direct line? No, THE PALACE announced that HARRY (you forgot to add him in there too) and Meghan will announce once they’ve had an opportunity to celebrate as a new family. As a Brit living in America, I am so tired of hearing that my beloved Royal Family is being dragged through the mud, our traditions covers many years, and while I agree traditions do change with the passing of years, I do not think commoners should marry into the family and try to change our traditions. I think many people do not realise that the British people contribute to the up keep of our Royal Family with our taxes, and therefore should be kept informed when the new baby arrives and the sex of the same. I personally don't think the Brits care where they give Birth or how soon pictures are taken, we do respect the Royal family's privacy, but do feel slighted not to be told when the little one arrives! I'm sure they'll release a photo of them and the baby on their Instagram page when they're ready. And saying Kate is perfect but Meghan is independent is wrong to say about both women. Kate isn't perfect. She is doing what she has to because her husband and children are next in line for the throne after his father. Harry has more freedom and his wife does too. And being independent isn't a bad thing. Both women fell in love with these men and knew their immediate families' (kids and marriage) lives were not going to be the same because of their husbands' paths in life. And once upon a time people and press and gossiping busybodies in the palace and around talked about and judged Princess Diana,who was a woman that was once a mix of both women.

The difference between Meghan verses Diana and Kate is, Meghan is a woman in her thirties who had a career, built her own fortune and life. Diana was just 19 years old when she married a man she barely knew and who really didn’t love her and Kate met William when they were still kids and simply waited 10 years for the proposal without doing much to explore her life. Diana did buck the system and do things her way, but Kate just goes along - I can’t think of a single original thing she’s done yet (maybe someone can help me). Meghan is a self made woman and Harry has always been a rebel. People tend to forget who Harry is and try to make like Meghan is making Harry act and do things differently. These two are not going to be king and queen and they are happy about that. They just want to live out their lives to the fullest. We should applaud that not be appalled by it.

I am a dad of two week old twin boys and my fiancé's labour and delivery was just over 23 hours and she had a 100% natural birth and there is no way I would have let anyone pull her about after she had the boys doing her hair and make-up and then make her put on a pair of high heels to stand in, in front of hundreds of photographers flashing their cameras in hers and the boys eyes just because of some stupid tradition. I saw what my fiancé went through to have the boys, in fact I see what women have to go through to bring a child into this world because I am a midwife and for anyone to expect a woman to stand in front of the world after just going through labour and delivery and put on a fake smile when all she is feeling is exhausted and very sore is a disgrace.
