Had similar problems doc, got up to zoplicone/zoplidem, Via melatonin and promethazine, the antihistamine. The Z's are ok once every few months if I really need them, but I found breathing exercises (initially through a mindfulness app) actually works better than the Z's on top of the melatonin and promethazine. Eat healthy food, take some vit D and K2, some sunlight early, try to relax and I hope you are passed this problem soon, magnesium also helps me a little I think ❤️🙏

I’m a 75 year old female. For a year now I’ve been enjoying two 5 mg Melatonin Gummies just as I go to bed! What a treat! I fall asleep relatively quickly and sleep for 4 hours, get up, then go right back to sleep for another 3 hours. I buy the generic brand, and so what if the label is incorrect about how much real Melatonin is in those gummies….it’s working for me, and it’s affordable.

Critical Care Nurse here. Thank you for your insights about this hormone. Big tip I learned for morning sleepiness after taking Melatonin- Get outside for sun exposure as early as possible. It wakes me up and I seem to sleep better that night when I do. I find Melatonin helps when I take it 2 hours before bed along with doing other sleep hygiene. Turning off all screens and lights as early as possible has been a game changer for me. I find I am asleep by 9pm and awake by 5.

I took it on and off for the through the 1990s to mid-2000. I found the recommended dosage and the time to take it has changed dramatically over the years. I never saw any improvement in my sleep - either falling asleep, staying asleep, of feeling rested. The last form I took was the time-released. Saw a study stating even name brand supplements had false claims of dosage/ingredients, and finally said "enough". I decided to follow the "sleep hygiene" guidance I had been teaching my patients (mental health): Go to bed/awaken at the same time 7 days a week. Get lots of light/sun during the day, turn down lights starting at 7pm, no TV, computers, phones, i.e, blue lights 1 hour before going to sleep. Use only night lights - never turn on a light if you must get out of bed. Cold, dark room. If you are hot in bed, less/no clothes, fewer blankets. This works for me. I have not needed an alarm to wake up since 2010.

@stephaniehyatt. Great advice. However, all light bulbs have LED in them nowadays that make them very bright. I looked on Amazon for night lights and even those have LED in them. This is a terrible situation! I don’t turn on the light in the bathroom if I have to go to in the middle of the night, I leave the door open.

@@leamaka2082 I have a few and they are directional, so they point at the floor. In the bathroom, I put electrical tape over the light to diffuse it. I started taking melatonin 5mg at age 75, it worked well and I increased dose slowly to 20mg. It did cause me to have dreams that I remembered and that was nice. After a while when I went for a checkup, my blood pressure had gone way up 160/80. My doc gave another BP Med and that didn’t help. Finally I did my research and found that melatonin does nullify certain BP meds. I was taking losartan ( an ARB). My Doc was unaware of this side effect! Be careful when starting any new supplements or drugs and be on the alert to any changes to your health. Melatonin is generally safe for healthy people even in larger doses.

I've always been a night person. I must have inherited this from my mother since she was a night person too. I can be awake all night with no issues except I worked during the day. I've worked for 50 years and I have always had trouble going to sleep. I started taking melatonin so I could get more than 4 hours of sleep. I started with 5 mg and went to 10 mg. It was the only way I could get enough sleep so I could get up and go to work. I had no issues taking it and wasn't groggy during the day. I'm retired now and I don't take it anymore. I also don't sleep much during the night. My body has never been in tune with night or day. Since I'm retired, I sleep when I feel like it and I'm awake the rest of the time. If I have to get up early, I'll stay awake most of the night. I'm retired, I can sleep when I feel like sleeping.😊 They say that older people don't need as much sleep. I don't know if that's true because I've had trouble sleeping my entire life. Thanks for sharing another great video!👍

64 year old here. I’ve taken Melatonin for over 30 years. I had a major health crisis at that time and the hospital had me on sleeping tablets. My family doctor suggested Melatonin because he knew I didn’t want to take sleeping meds and we were about to travel to Asia for a holiday and could buy a supply there as it wasn’t available in Australia at that time. Over the years I’ve slowly increased up to 10mg. I sleep very well, have very few dreams and usually don’t remember them upon waking. As soon as I open the shutters in the morning and expose my eyes to sunlight all signs of sleepiness disappear. I have noticed no side effects.

I had a job that would regularly wake me up at 2 - 3 AM, easily twice a week. I don't work there anymore, and I had trouble sleeping more than 5 hours for a year after that. The BEST thing I did to recover was to get rid of my alarm. Also, the phone is nowhere near the bed and I use ear plugs. I use melatonin, but I don't think it does anything either way. But sleep became a priority for me so I do whatever I can. I regularly go to bed at 10:30 and get up at about 6 AM. I have never slept late. My best sleep trick is get rid of your alarm. Its weird, but it works.

I am 73. For the last 6 or 8 years I have had a terrible time getting a good night's sleep. Sometimes it has been initially falling asleep, sometimes falling back to sleep after getting up and taking a whiz in the night. I'll average about 5 hours of sleep with about 9 hours in bed. Then about 6 months ago I started taking time-release melatonin. I think it is a total of 9 mg which is a pretty big hit. My sleep has been much better. There are still the occasional 6 hours of sleep a night, but generally the sleep has been pretty good with about 9 hours in bed for 7 to 8 hours of sleep. I think the dreaming might be a little more vivid. But the dreams have generally been pretty entertaining, so that's not all bad.

Then lately I've started waking up around 2:30 or 3:00 a.m. and I can't go back to sleep for hours (I usually read until about midnight) so decided to try it again and bought some that were 3 mg. I broke open the caps took about half of it before bed - right before because I have no problem going to sleep and it does help quite a bit. Instead of 2:30 or 3 I sleep until about 6 then if I have to use the restroom I can go back to sleep for an hour or two with no problem. I don't intend to take it forever but I'll stick to that method for a few more days then try it without.

I am 67, recovering from breast cancer treatment (aromatase inhibitors) during which I developed trouble sleeping as one of a cascade of miseries. 3mg nightly makes a difference in getting a full night's sleep which has an impact on all the other side effects (inflammation, joint pain, headaches, fatigue, weakness, tinnitus, weight gain, hair loss, carpal tunnel, etc.). Good sleep has been the single most important factor in turning the tide as it affects everything, and yet of course I'm conflicted about taking it nightly. What is your .02?

I am 52. I was prescribed 2mg of Melatonin - prolonged release tablets. After two concussions in three months and the clinic believing lack of sleep was hindering my concussion recovery. I find it works well. But I also have Asthma and found taking the Melatonin regularly made my Asthma worse. Cant take it every night at all. Was taking it every second night. But have stopped for a fortnight and am about to try it again and see how my Asthma goes.

in the past, I’ve taken 10mg of melatonin. side effect - the worst tummy ache 😣 ever. basically, I’ve given up on, “trying” to take Anything for my insomnia 😳 because it just doesn’t work on me and with my daily routine, it conflicts. to the most that I’m taking right now is, a calming tea 🍵, ( which has chamomile, mint, etc ) just to settle my anxiety 😬 depression 🥺

I’ve been taking it for 30 years without any issues. I’m a male in my 50’s. People say that I look in my early 40’s. I believe that Melatonin to a great degree is the reason for it. Also, I read once that it can cause autoimmune issues for some women.

Taking 10mg melatonin + supplementing magnesium has made a big impact. Further context-- I am someone with frequent insomnia, waking after ~5 hours & unable to fall back asleep. Melatonin alone was always underwhelming, but both together has made a noticeable impact on my ability to sleep.

I am 68 years old & I have been using Kids Sleep Gummies by Olly for a year now. Two gummies is 1 mg of Melatonin. It really helps me regulate my sleep cycle. I get up at 4:15 am to go care for grandchildren so it’s important that I keep a good sleep pattern. Before I started using Melatonin, I would often have nights I just did not sleep.

Years ago, I took Melatonin regularly, which lasted a few weeks. Now I take it occasionally mainly for jet lag. It worked too well for me. A 10 mg dosage made me groggy all day. I now take 1 to 3 mg when needed.

70 yo male, good condition. Started at 5 mg. No go. Went to 12 mg. Better and more noticeable. Now at 24 mg slow release. No discernible side effects, and do not take any other meds. Been doing that for 5 yrs or so.

I'm 66 years young. A little disabled, mostly just life happening. And I have used melatonin on and off for years, I think it works better if it's just used once in a while. I think, as far as it being the jet leg helping remedy, it can be all right for that. I don't think it's something that's Comforting or even useful to use every single bae. I invite everybody that reads my little blurb here to listen to the gentleman. I trust them and don't walk into a health food store. Buy one of everything and take it home and consume it. It's considered medicine in some ways. And you wouldn't walk into a pharmacy and buy one of everything and take it. God bless you all from Bakersfield, California, USA.

I’m a 71 year old man, healthy and slim and active. I occasionally take one mg of melatonin when I’m in bed and ready to turn off the lights and want to sleep. The melatonin works very fast, within 5 minutes I’m drifting off to sleep. I sleep very soundly and dream profusely when taking melatonin. The only side effects are dry eyes in the morning and a bit of grogginess when I get up, but that’s ok because I get a sound sleep with melatonin; but without melatonin I often wake up at 2am and I’m wide awake and can’t get back to sleep.

My sister-in-law, who has a Masters in Geriatric Nursing, turned me on to Melatonin a year ago. Definitely helps, although it doesn't help with nighttime urination. Tried several things with a urologist, including surgery to install a urolift in the bladder. Didn't really help.

I take 5-10 mg and it definitely helps me sleep through the night. I could fall asleep easily but would wake up at 3am, melatonin helped with this. The only side effect is if I take it every night for a while it can give me headaches the next day but can’t be sure it’s causative.
