I grew my hair for 3 years and had it well below my shoulders. The last thing you said about long hair is somethign I really noticed - you stand out every where you go and it's "different". When I had long hair it seemed boring to be like everyone else with a short fade. I also donated my hair last year and went back to short hair for a while though I really miss the long hair. Currently a few months in to growing it out for a 2nd time.

But before I knew it I said to myself I'll be damned, I have long hair again , I don't think I'd have long hair after cutting it the first time.

I love having long hair for a lot of the reasons you stated. But I do feel like it's a constant battle against my lifestyle. I'm typically in the gym 5 days a week strength training, and endurance cycling / mountain biking 3 days a week. Sprinkle in backpacking and camping around 30 nights per summer, and I sweat a LOT and end up needing to wash more frequently than I'd like. It feels like I get about one "good" day out of my hair between washes and just overall physical activity.

I was raised by a macho traditional father, long hair for men was a big no, so I got accustomed to the short hair life, but about 2 years ago, I felt called to let it grow. The first attempt, I gave up during an awkward stage. It's been a year and a half of letting mine grow from a comb over, and I love it, I didn't know I had wavy/curly hair, my only issue is that I am prone to scalp issues, so I need to wash it more, it can be uncomfortable to manage. It's been a very empowering journey though, and I plan to keep it long!

Pro for going short again for me will be to get my natural hair back as it's been bleached a few times and black dyed every 3 months for 18 months.

I have decided to grow out again (against wife’s wishes 😅) fortunately my hair grows super quick and within 6 months it will be full on Pitt world War Z length. This time I am also enjoying the difficult stage and experimenting. Enjoy you next journey. All the best from the uk 🇬🇧

to be fair... you could get an undercut with long hair (otherwise known as the skrillex cut) which eliminates not having to go to the salon very often because even if you don't have a complete "disconnected undercut" you still have to make it look neat since after some time it starts to look bad when not shaved off. But other than that, i have long hair and i love it and i also believe that it is better since there aren't that many men out there with long hair, than there are with short hair. Love your vids btw.

My biggest pro for long hair is that it is teaching me how to care for long hair. I was the brush cut guy most of my young life, so I didn't even know what different hair brushes were for as I didn't brush my hair. Learning that people went multiple days without washing their hair was also a shocker. I still haven't figured out hair additives between washes, but I will get there.
@BelegaerTheGreat14 күн бұрын
My God, I did not know that the same amount of grease is released for each hair strand, so it takes much more time for long hair to get greasy and need washing!

I have the longest hair i ever had while i am in my late40s. Never had long hair until i started to let it grow in my early 40s for the first time (longest before was a kind of James Dean haircut). Mostly it was from a 2mm buzzcut to maybe 1-2 ich at best. Now i am past my shoulders and i like it really. I still have full wavy to curly hair (type 2c - 3a) and it is still dark blonde with ash tone, same for my beard, still not much grey to see and so people think i am way younger. Well, it stands out , especially for my age and i feel really better with my longest hair i ever had. I just wished i had tried it 10 or even 20 years ago. When i look at my family i think i will have still good hair for some years and grey will kick in late too......but you never know. So i will grow it out as long as i can until it look healthy. My goal is at least to go below the chest. I also seem to have thick and robust hair and my ends are still fine even when i did not see a barber to cut my ends for about 6 months (before it was almost a year without a cut). Not sure yet where my final is since hair life circle is between 2-7 years (or a lot longer if you won the hair gene lottery). I must say i have kind of norwood 1.5 left and maybe 1,6 right (slight widows peek) and what you would call maybe a bit higher forehead but when i saw my old photos i already had this mature hairline after puberty when i was 19 and it really does not changed much until now so i guess maybe i have luck. I really would miss my long hair now and never ever would cut it off until it really gets too thin or damaged. So if you can....let it grow. I also have a beard but on my cheeks and neck are some symmetrical holes which looks funny like a "Z" which grow over maybe when i would pass 3 inch or so but i do not like it and it feels not good, so i just have a full goatee with a viking style and 2-3 times a year i go for a clean shaven face which is fine i think since i have a good facial bone structure. I wish i could grow a nice full viking beard but i guess i focus on my hair since it is more important for me and i have no patience to maintain long hair and a long beard. Oh, and also my lady do not like beards but like my long hair (she was the one which told me to try it). Long hair for life!!

I take good care of my hair, and saved heaps of money.
