Is anyone else low-key obsessed with Metallica’s HQ? I feel like they bought a warehouse, built a studio in it and called it there adult-hangout spot. So fucken cool man.
@erikrandan72942 жыл бұрын
If I remember, its actually an old airplane hangar that they converted into HQ. I cant think of any musician who wouldnt love to be able to do that! Having their entire operation and history contained in that one space definitely would fuel creativity on a massive level. I recall James talking about wanting to take the garage that they wrote Puppets in and moving the whole thing to HQ, only to find out it had been torn down...but then was stoked to learn they saved some of the lumber, so he had Ken Lawrence turn it into his guitar "Carl". And to think, these guys almost broke up during the recording of St. Anger. It's so awesome to see how far they've come and how compatible they are today. The jokes, the camaraderie, the creativity, and the overall vibe was just awesome. Some Kind of Monster showed us that St. Anger had basically _none_ of that, and it was so depressing. We were watching a band just tear themselves and each other apart for personal and creative issues between all of them. The biggest obstacle being James' sobriety, trying to recover his life and band from his devastating Addiction. I dont think he laughed or even smiled one time during the whole movie :\ And now look at them. They just enthusiastically bounce off each other's vibe and ideas the whole time, making great music and most importantly, they're having FUN. TOTAL comeback, both musically and personally. Let's all give these guys a round of applause 👏 Thank God they stuck together! I will never stop loving Metallica! 🤘

True that, but Lars is still contributing to the session, keeping tempo and generally not being a pissy bitch (like back in the early 2000s). I'm not saying that this Metallica renaissance known as "Spit out the bone" was Lars's idea, but I'm just pointing out that Lars is clearly not some kind of burden to bear for the rest of the band, which is a popular belief online. People seem to forget that many of the Metallica classics have been forged with Lars on the lead, and that he's not just some megalomaniac Danish dude. EDIT: so in the original comment that I was replying to it was written as "His vision" which I mistook for "Rob's vision", when that was not the implied meaning. My bad for mixing that up

It's just the echo chamber effect. Someone sees a bunch of people saying Lars sucks so they hop on the bandwagon. They can be willfully ignorant because they aren't challenging what is the status quo so the odds of some one calling them out on their bullshit tend towards the low side.

billizkuel87 Yes, I grudgingly gave it a shot and did not like it. I didn't expect to like HTSD either, and actually didn't even plan on checking it out at all. Liquid Metal started heavy rotation of Hardwired and I thought "huh, that's the least worst thing they've put out in a while." Then they started playing Moth and it grew on me. Then SOTB blew me away, and I bought the record.

what people think Lars lacks in ability he more than makes up for in his unbelievable ability to put a song together.

David Catanus but not everybody has the same endurance over time. Doesn't have to do with talent. Phil Collins, who was a tremendously talented drummer, can't play anymore because of the physical problems he has, probably because of age, but not because of a lack of talent or skill.
@davidcatanus49227 жыл бұрын
CoTeCiOtm you mean can't play as fast as he used to? yeah I suppose as you get older you're not as energetic as you once were but age doesn't determine skill. If you at least practice your instrument, you'll still sound awesome matter how old you are whether or not you can play fast technical stuff. Buddy rich is a perfect example.
@CoTeCiOtm7 жыл бұрын
David Catanus No, he actually has a spine problem that makes him unable to pick up a drumstick with his left hand, apart from other problems which causes him pain when trying to play drums. He can't play at all.

Not only is this song the best on the album it’s one the best they’ve ever created! I’d put it up with there with all their “classic” hits. It’s genius cause this song combines ALL the great elements of Metallica’s song we love. And James voice!!!! Especially the bridge section “Stop breathing and dedicate to me” Awwww classic and sooo damn good! This song is WAY underrated.

This is the best song they've put out since Justice imo. A year later and I still get goosebumps whenever I hear it. There are tons of thrash bands that may play more complicated riffs and rhythms, but none of them has this specific Metallica epicness and honesty.

Vidar Nordgren The whole missing phone bit is BS. James said a while back Kirk was dealing with "life things" during this album's process, that it was his business, and he'll talk about it if he wants to talk about it. It's possible he went through rehab, therapy, or something similar.
