MFactory Helical LSD Tear-down

I am rebuilding the MFactory Helical LSD that I had in my 1991 Civic Si Hatchback 5 speed L3 40mm transmission. The MFactory part# is: MF-TRS-05D15Z

The reason this LSD got messed up and is so rusty is because it was in my house's garage when my house burned down. The heat from the fire was so hot that it completely liquefied the aluminum transmission case that this LSD was in. The transmission ended up being a puddle of aluminum on the ground. Nothing was left except the LSD with the CV-axles still left in it. It sat in the open air for 6 months before I salvage it from the ashes and rebuilt it. Its runs fine now, but has been leaving some metal particles in the oil. I'm guessing the metal is harder in the new parts I put in it and they are not wearing against the old parts like it normally would.
This model LSD is meant to go in the the Honda models with the ZC engine/transmission but works just fine in the EF Civic L3 5 speed transmission with the 40mm bearings that go the differential inside the transmission. AND, this LSD model has the 27 splines for receiving the larger B-series axles which is what I was using in my other Civic. I had welded threaded bungs on the back side of my D16Y8 engine to mount a DA Integra half-shaft to it.
Torque Specs:
LSD housing bolts: 25 lbf⋅ft (34 N⋅m)
Ring gear bolts: 74 lbf⋅ft (103 N⋅m)

When you tighten the housing with the alan bolts are you able to rotate the splines inside the diff? Mine does not move and im not sure if thats normal. Isnt it suppose to be able to rotate?

The splines for the left and right side axles should have a lot of resistance from moving independent from each other. But if you put enough force(torque) on them they should rotate. Mine is broke in now and I can rotate one tire by hand with some effort with the tire on the opposite side locked in place.

Any updates on the diff since it basically went through hell and back? Are you still running it?

Yes. I'm still running it. After I repaired it I installed it in my 5-speed 1991 Civic Si transmission and put about 10k miles on it. Then I swapped it over to the 1998 JDM 5-speed S40 transmission that came with my D15 3-stage VTEC engine that I swapped into my 1990 Civic Hatchback. I just posted a new video yesterday with me testing it out in 9" of snow. The last time I changed the transmission oil I was seeing some very fine metal glitter. Most likely it's from the new fresh metal housing that's rubbing on the worm gears that got roasted in the house fire and lost their hardness. I installed magnetic drain and fill plugs to help extract the metal glitter which should help some. The LSd does work to give me traction though. Normalmente no. Por lo general, solo venden el LSD completo y no las partes individuales. Pero pude convencer al distribuidor aquí en los EE. UU. para que ordenara algunas de las piezas de Taiwán para que pudiera reconstruir mi LSD. Tuve la oportunidad de pedir las arandelas y la mitad de la caja de LSD.

Si. Sirve para eso. Hay diferente tipos de LSD (El diferencial autoblocante o diferencial tipo torsen). Per todo ellos funciona mas o menos lo mismo. Per por un camioneta 4x4 es mas como pare usar un "BLOQUEO DIFERENCIAL" avtotachki.com/es/chto-takoe-blokirovka-differencziala/

Why did You run You lsd without oil ? Any kind of differential need to be filed with oil. This one obwiously didnt see any oil. Thats why this diff is fu*ked up, i teared down open diff from 25 years old bmw and it was like brand new, but it was FILLED WITH OIL :D

kinda look like some scam to put down mfactory diff out of buisnes, this one propably run in acid mixed with water not with oil. Not long ago i teared down 25 years old bmw differential with propably more than 400k miles on it ,totaly fine, zero wear, but it was properly used, with oil

What makes you think that it's a OBX LSD? I bought it new from MFactory, came in a MFactory box so I'm pretty sure it is an MFactory LSD. And ya, it used to have the MFactory logo etched on the side of it before it got burned up and rusty.

@Mariopic -Dude you are tripping. My helical gear-type M-Factory diff is identical. If this one was not rusty, it would have their logo laser printed on the housing.
