Such a pure smile at 6:04 Thanks so much for the video on my 458 SOCOM upper! Not sure why you’re having problems with the charging handle coming loose, but I think it might have to do with me testing using cheap ammo and handloads while you were shooting spicy ammo. Those Aero charging handles have really big wings to grab on to, and those wings might have enough inertia to unlock themselves under heavy recoil. A charging handle with smaller/lighter wings or a milspec charging handle might solve that issue. I’ll see what I can figure out once the upper is back, and either way, I loved the video! So I built a 458 socom using a Sharps warthog lower, a Tromix barrel and bolt for my son when he made Navy Chief. I put a pair of pig balls you can buy as the grip. So after he was rocked at the party he got to open it in front of some of his Chiefs. It was hilarious and cool. The thing about the 458 bolt Tony from Tromix makes the best one. My friend decided to build a 458 as well. He's a former sharpshooter in the military. He was having problems with the bolt he ordered the one from Tromix. He hasn't had a problem it worked perfect. The Tromix bolt is quite a bit more stout. He also builds the combo for a 375. That's going to be my match to my son's. We hog hunt every two years in Texas.

There is some context to why 458 SOCOM is a thing, namely Task Force Ranger's experiences during Gothic Serpent. Needing multiple hits to drop guys. Teppo Jutsu and Tromix came together to make this whacky new caliber for the turn of the millennium with the goal of it just being an upper swap. Using USGI mags and mil-spec parts. I mean, Mike can definitely get back to being more serious again after this episode. Shit is funny. So what gun are you reviewing again?

I agree with AA. Micah does deserve a successful channel. This channel serves as a perfect bridge between casual content like h45 and demo ranch to channels like GT and AA.

I wonder if ammo prices would be better if companies didn’t keep giving it to KZbinrs(yes I’m sorta sour about it)

I have a 16" tromix and its so much fun to shoot. Reloading your own ammo is almost a necessity, given the price of loaded ammo. Get a stiffer charging handle spring from tromix and the muff mop wont get beat up anymore. I have a bcm gunfighter CH in mine and no issues.

I love seeing the .458 getting some love. Blackbutterfly ammo is what I run through my double stamped shoulder ruiner.

I built a 16" .458 SOCOM 4 or 5 years ago. It was cool for a minute but ended up being a novelty that chills on the wall. Shortly after I built it, I handed it to my buddy with a full mag and the impression that it was my .223 AR. He proceeded to mag dump it into trash and hated every second of it 🤣

Dude, the charging handle being sent back like a rocket, and the jokes, and the friends, just perfect man. Love the trio. Wish Mike was having fun with yall too tho!!!

My Beowulf did the exact same crap with the charging handle. I replaced so much stuff it was essentially all new. I went with the strike industries latchless and no more issues

One of the great features of the .458, which parent case is the .50ae of Desert Eagle fame and it was designed to penetrate Middle East and African adobe/cinderblock derived from Gothic Serpent lessons, is that it can mix and match with .450 bushmaster and .50 Beowulf, meaning an AR10 based lower with three massive big bore uppers. I have the tri-rig, all three suppressed, in a huge Pelican Vault case that holds 6 mags of each, .458, .450, and 50 beo - 360 big bore rounds of it’s a wonderful day at the range.

I like shooting my .458 socom. But I also have a 16” barrel on it and I don’t think it recoils all that bad. I use mine for deer hunting here in Indiana

Same! If you play around with the buffer weights and extra power Sprinco recoil springs you can really tame it.

lol that reciprocating charging handle bopping you in the nose is a nice touch. I put a super cheap ambi on one of mine and took it to a 2 gun match and by the 3rd stage one of the roll pins came out so it couldn't latch anymore. So every shot bopped me in the nose.

I have two of them, one AR, one built on a 700 Remington action, I use it for heavy woods hunting for deer, and yes we have bear here too that will sneak up to see what your doing and if you have food for them. I put an adjustable gas key on my bolt and it fixed the reciprocating charging handle.

If It’s a clone sight and turns off, it’s probably because the spring isn’t strong enough to hold the battery in place. That’s why it’s still able to turn back on. I had a cheap sight that was given to me and I messed around with it on a 223/556 until I picked up an aim point t1 in the early years. Just some insight.
