I stumbled onto your podcast a couple months ago and found myself wishing I was still a mom of younger kids to have a bit of a do over. I was that mom who thought I had to entertain my kids all day when they were little and I was a stay at home mom. I wanted the "village" but I was the youngest "mother" of my friend group. This podcast really hit home with me as I am in my 50s now and my children are grown and I'm figuring out what's next in my life and often lament "the good ol days of my 30s". I have a new perspective now, thank you!!

This was a great episode! On the village-motherhood thing: I cannot count how many times my 85 year old neighbor (who had 5 babies in 7 years) has told me that she would "go insane" and "get nothing done" if she was a mom today. Between the whole idea that you "have" to entertain your kids all day long, the way that young-ish kids don't really roam neighborhoods (where people know each other and kind of keep an eye out for the kids) anymore, and stuff like school shootings, she has told me that in her view, motherhood today is way harder than it was when she was a young mom. On the age thing-I love hearing your thoughts! It really bugs me when people act like only the privileged few "get" to be joyfully ageless if they take ice baths or get married young or do some magical hack. I once came across an article where a woman said that she could live to be 100, so when she turned 50 she had the perspective of "Wow! I am so incredibly young, I may have only lived half my life so far!" I thought it was really cool.

Our go to for quick cake is - store bought cake with kit kat fingers strapped around it outside and fill the middle with the colour candy that suits the theme (Malteses, Smarties, etc). Looks great in photos, kids love it, and takes 15 minutes to assemble 🙂
